Thieves at the post office
Crimson, I know how you feel! I have also been mad to the post offices.. USPS as well :(
I'd start on a local level...then go to district, and then send email to The Postmaster General...and I would advocate a petition for immediated reprimand and punishment!!
"eyes"
Oh, this has happened to me, too! They always blame it on "the package got caught in the machinery, so we cut the labels off to show you." No, I want to see the ENTIRE BOX! It's also happened with envelopes that I've put seeds in. The worst is when I don't get anything except an e-mail from the other trader asking about the seeds/plants. This was happening quite often to me about a year and a half ago. I raised such a stink ~ gave my local PO a piece of my mind, and asked them to trace the route my things go for me. Then I got phone numbers/addresses of all the places my packages would go. I went to the next stop myself ~ in Austin ~ and gave them the same piece of my mind. I called the rest. Apparently something happened as I haven't had any "misplaced" trades in a while.
I would file a complaint with the postal inspectors; that is there job to investigate things like this.
It makes me both sad and relieved to read this thread. I have actually felt like I couldn't mail or order anything, because of the frequency of lost or seriously delayed mail. And I was taking it very personally. I have gone the sensible route of talking to the people who receive a paycheck to take care of such problems, but to no avail. I didn't see any improvement. Like Wingnut, my mail all goes through Austin, but I do seem to have better luck when I go to one of the friendlier post offices there to send things, instead of mailing it in my own town. That's a lot of trouble, and hearing on the news that rates are going to increase makes it even harder to swallow. Like the health and school problems, they just keep asking for more money when the complaints become too numerous, but nothing ever gets fixed. It's extremely depressing to me. There is so little we can actually do. When I became insistent about my service, I was told I could leave the post office or they would call security. I had not raised my voice or threatened anyone, I was just insisting that an explanation and some assurance of better service be offered. I left, and didn't go back for over a year, and my mail delivery continued to be sloppy. Sporadically, it would seem to improve, but I can never relax and assume it will be what it should be. And now they have hired two more layers of people so I never get to the actual manager. Promises are made, and they always act like they are so surprised, as if this never ever happens. It is very defeating. But I know now it's not a personal thing, because you are feeling it, too. I am sorry.
I know it seems like it's pointless to complain - because nothing gets done. But when hundreds or even thousands of complaints roll in it forces them to investigate. Even if it's not theft and just shotty mail service ... they have to investigate what the problem is.
Chrimson here is a link for the US Postal inspection service http://www.usps.gov/websites/depart/inspect/
http://www.usps.gov/websites/depart/inspect/fraud/MailFraudComplaint.htm This second link is a complaint form to fill out. Like I said you might feel like it's pointless but all those little complaints add up. They can not ignore thousands of complaints. My office is pretty docile here in Maine. I know some of the big cities are very different when it comes to mail service and the postal employees. Some places it's very dangerous to be a mail carrier and they risk their lives being on the streets with a bag of mail.
If your sister is in the US you can always ask us to send seeds and plants to her address when we have them for trade. I'm not sure but I think I may have some of that superstition iris. This summer I could probably send her a rhizome.

someone opened my sisters Christmas gifts at the post office. They opened the box from my father. took out 2 of 3 things. REPLACED all the packing peanuts.... put in TWINKIES and BEEF JERKY!!!! closed it up and sent it to her!!!!!!!So, sissy gets package. Thinks her father sent her this stuff........It was so bizzare. PLUS/. I didn;t want to say to my dad......why did you send such strange things. PLUS,.I got nice stuff for christmas......I didnt; want to tell sissy I got NICE stuff and she got twinkies. Not till After christmas did they talk and realize what had happened. post office said///OH WELL!!!!!
Mimi - that's not funny but it gave me a big laugh!! I can't imagine that happening at a post office. There would be no place to accomplish a feat like that unless the person took the package home and then re-mailed it. One thing they tell us on the first day ... is if we are a witness to a co-worker stealing and do not notify management... we are as guilty as the thief and could be charged with a felony too. Our building is old but there are tunnels through out that the postal inspectors can peek out and spy on employees. We could be filmed at any time. When they suspect an employee is stealing or up to illegal activity they watch and set up cameras to catch them in the act.
well, guess what. it DID happen. Imagine how I felt when my sister calls me up at holiday time and tells me our 70 year old father. just sent her Twinkies adn Beef Jerky and Dune Perfume. He got remarried last januaary. so, We figured new mom saved the day with the perfume. now. NO one knew what was in the wrapped presents. he had made us this nice grouping of photos from when we were kids on up adn put it inside book called "sisters'...No one knew that. They just took the stuff. Here WE are thinking daddy had gone off his rocker! AND...I cant; tell him, not knowing what REALLY happened...Hay daddy. how come I got nice Hot tub steps from you and sissy gets what she got? AND, It was wrapped in baggies!!!!! Placed in tehr...the packing peanuts were gone!!!! It was very frustrating. post office said if you send anything from now on. have a tracking ### It was very upsetting all the way around.

crimson you have mail.
A few times I did get the envelope, shredded and in a plastic bag. I can understand it happening every now and again, and I of course believe them that it was just damaged the times I got shredded pieces back. But when it happened so much, then twice I got entire mangled boxes and once only the little square address parts cut out, it just kind of made me suspicious.
Bless your heart, Crimson! I HATE moving!!!!!!
