Texas Mountain Laurel in bloom!

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

I saw them last night in Austin, they have opened in the last 24 hours. I guess it's because of the nice rain we had over the entire area. Any day, everything will be bursting into bud and bloom, and I will be looking for someone to mow my fields. Oh, I do hope the spring weather hangs around awhile, and we don't go right into scorching weather.

I have to go and check in our woods to see if my one mountain laurel is blooming!! Wonderful sight isn't it!! You are so right about the weather. I was just remarking about the same thing yesterday and hoped we didn't go from winter to summer overnight!!

Margaret, I don't know if there will be any connection here, as ours isn't true Mountain Laurel but Sophora secundiflora.
I'm not sure when mountain laurel blooms. But I hope yours is blooming if it means spring for you.

Hoping this is the year I finally get some starts of Cherokee Rose. Great little "heirloom" and part of Texas history. I think it will be in bloom in mid-April, can't recall for sure.

Kalmia Latifolia Aimee - that's what we have!! The three roses I have look very healthy!! Maybe the deer did me a favour by trimming them down a bit :-)

Aimee, I am so jealous!! I bought a Texas Mt Laurel last yr about this time. It was loaded with blooms & then came the 20's we had down here. I don't know if it is going to have any blooms or not now. :~(

Smockette, I am sorry! There are years mine doesn't bloom, or does so very sparsely. But I just console myself with the thought that even a little old tree needs some time off. I still have thousands of seeds from 1 and 2 years ago, so a slack crop isn;t a problem from that angle, but the fragrance on the first of the warm spring nights surely is magic in the garden. In order to totally enjoy this little tree, we need some warm balmy nights during its bloom period.
