Journal question

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

I'm working on my journal, trying to correct the things I did wrong. I don't want to do anything wrong, or plagerize anyone, so I hope Dave or someone can answer these questions.

Is it okay to use something from the Plants Database, for the information part of my jounal, for my own reference, as long as I put something like this first:

The following information courtesy of Plants Database at:
(url for the plant I'm talking about)

and, if I would like to put a picture of the plant so I can identify mine when they come up, (I'm new, so don't know all this yet), can I put something like:

The following photo courtesy of Plants Database, and special thanks to photographer ____________.

If, during my research on all the seeds I have, I found some information that I would like to keep for future reference from another site, can I put it in there as long as I quote the site name and url that I got it from?

If I'm way off base here, please tell me, and I'll fix it right away. I have checked to not share my journal until I get it fixed so that it's right. If I did this wrong, any suggestions of a right way to do it?

I would appreciate any help with this. I would love for others to be able to view my journal, but don't want to get myself, DG, Dave or anyone in trouble. But, I would also like to have all my information organized so I can spend more time in the garden this summer, and not searching for all the information I need. I'm new to both flower gardening and journaling.

Thank you,
Joan

Joan, I think you're doing it just right. I hope at some point we make it easier to link to the Plants Database when it detects an entry that has a match in there. In the meantime, you're doing it just like I would (and did, I think.)

Sounds like you're off to a fine start :)

I especially love it when people like you give credit where credit is due JoanJ. It's a matter of courtesy to me...thanks for being courteous. (And no, I'm not referring to anything I've entered...I've entered very little in the database but realize many others have.)

Joan it's ok to link to other pages too. You can paste a web address into your journal so you can refer to it for information or pictures ... that's Ok. Copying the picture to your own hardrive and uploading it as your own is different. I think that you'll find most people won't mind you using their pictures in your journal - Just ask. I know I wouldn't mind. But some people are touchy about it.

This is one question that I wanted to ask. I did it once when I posted the corkscrew vine. I used one of Dave's pictures here in the photo forum without asking. I did apologize later, I did give him credit for his picture and since I din't hear anything from him, I guess he accepted my appology. I promise I won't do that again without asking, even though nothing was said to me I felt kind of funny about doing it.
