jfc's veggie-herb round robin

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I want to clear something up too. I kind of assumed that you, MVR, were generous to a fault. I thought that maybe you intended to put enough in the baggie so that there would be enough for everyone. No problem with me. I too had a bit of trouble trying to figure out the sheets of paper, so finally just wrote down what I took out and what I added. Maybe I'm a picky gardener, you know that is very possible. I guess my own disappointment came when I could find very few herb packages in the baggie. Had I known it would be short on herb variety, I would have gone to one of our discount stores and bought some to add. Oh well, I'm going to be planting my garlic chives, Italian Parsley, and savoy today. Hope you all find something that is appealing to you and plant, plant, plant..... :-)

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Brugie,
What types of herbs are you looking for? Over the years I have built up a fair variety. I may be able to share divisions or seeds with you depending on what you are looking for. E me if you have time.

Janet, I am sorry to put you in this position and this is why I am taking the time (of which I have none to spare) to address this matter to group #2

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

This is my first RR and I hesitated because of problems I have seen others have. I thought part of it was the fun it would be.
I don't know what is going on but life is to short to get upset over seeds.

Brooklet, GA(Zone 8a)

all of you know how things unexpected happen and unfortunately carol had quite a few hit her at once so please be patient and pray for her and her family in their time of distress. #2 will be back on track soon and i do hope that carol won't let this one bad experience keep her from further ones. sometimes things just happen. lord knows i have held a few trades and a rr up in my time here to due to unexpected things that i had no control over. carol is going thru alot of stuff right now and needs our prayers not our scolding. have a great day all of you and God bless you all.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

It's just a bunch of seeds and my life is not going to be made or broken by them. If anyone can use my help, please just let me know. I am more than willing to help.

Circleville, OH(Zone 8b)

Wow, and then my life fell apart and all hell breaks loose.LOL

Did I cause all this, I hope not.

For those of you who might not know my wife and I seperated and things have gotten very tense on my end. I also do not have a place to plant anything for now.

Please don't think it was because of the RR that I dropped out.

I am working through things in my life and just didn't want to deal with the RR on top of what I am going through, I hope everyone understands and will keep praying for me.I will keep everyone in my prayers as well.

Mike

Okay, I got way confused with the take out/put in sheet, and I was getting short on time since we had Jaden's 14th birthday party tonight too, and I wanted to make sure it was ready to put back in the mail in the morning. I didn't fill in the sheet. Sorry. :( I took out 6 packages and put in around 20 packages of different things, forgot to count for sure in my haste to get it ready to go out again. They are commercial packages, but I think it rounds the package out nicely so there's a good selection. I put in some herbs and some veggies.

MaVie - one of the packages I took out was one of your Loofa. I was intrigued because I didn't know what it was. LOL! What is it?

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

this is loofa or luffa ... http://plantsdatabase.com/go/712.html , it grows as a vine. in the orient, we use it as vegetable for stir fried noodles or on soup. the fruit when young, is sweet and delectable. u need to use a paring knife to take off the green skin. don't take off too much skin of nothing will be left of the fruit LOL! maybe for u it is an acquired taste, i love it. once the fruit matures, u dry it on the vine. u can use the dried luffa like a sponge cloth. u need to soaked the loofa first in water overnight, to soften it. some people like to soak it in soap and bleach to lighten the color. i just soaked them in water. in due time, the more u use it, the lighter the color tend to be. it is good to use on the skin, cause it takes off dead skin off our body. i use mine all the time.

i do not know how to describe the flavor of luffa, except it is nice and sweet. can't think of any veggie to compare it too. ahh! almost like zucchini but naturally sweet and very much different in flavor. it has it's own unique characteristic into it.

i planted 4 seeds last year, on each vine, i got 8 fruits that are about 18" long. in each luffa, u get about 100 seeds.

hope that helps. =)

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

Thank you MaVieRose! That helps a lot. I'm looking forward to them.

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

Joan... it is nice to grow luffa. u should see the bees buzzing on the flower all the time. it helps all my other veggies too, cause the bees just adores those luffa flowers.
i will be planting about 10 seeds this year. cause my son and his friends loves the soup from luffa fruits... ma vie

Brooklet, GA(Zone 8a)

thats fine joan. if the sheet is confusing to all of you just don't worry about it. just have fun with it. janet

Bayonne, NJ(Zone 6a)

Well, it is out of my hands now and has been. The RR went out the other day. Now it's up to the P. O. A new neighbor wondered why I have been "not me" and offered to take care of my mail for the group. Very nice of him seeing as he really doesn't know me. I just moved her last June and I don't do winters.
Please go to "Prayer Requests" if you are a part of RR 2 for the explaination where JCF writes, "please pray for my hubby.
I hope you will all forgive my tardiness and understand the circumstances. Unfortunate though it may be, stuff happens.

Thank you all for your support and offers of assistance.
Crestedchick I am really tempted to change my name to "Napping in New Jersey" you were the first person to put a smile on this puss in sometime.
Now I will try to grow up and handle matters better.
All other items I owe will be out tomorrow.
May God Bless you all
Have a bloomin' good growing season

My mom, Doris Morey, received the robin on Friday. I took it to her in the hospital, and she has spent today with the seed packs spread out on her bed there. She has really enjoyed this robin, and the seeds gave her something to think about other than her surgery and tests. I will get the robin on it's way to Deb in Ohio on Monday.

THE NEVER ENDING STORY:

Kathy, you will notice when you get the package that your zip code was changed. The last number was wrong. Whew! I though my neighbor messed up but no. The label was wrong.
