DAVE watched thread help please

I've been using the watched thread facility fine since i joined, but just recently - last few days - I've been clicking on the 'click here to watch this thread' offered after making a post and it doesn't seem to register, so i don't know when someone else has posted. If i go back to the thread immediately after clicking on the "watch this thread" choice, the top right options box shows "watch this thread" instead of "stop watching this thread". If i then request to watch the thread in that top right hand box it seems to work.
This is probably as clear as mud, but if you can tell me what i'm doing wrong i'd be really grateful :-)
BTW it doesn't always happen, but i have no way of knowing if it has or not without returning to the thread.

think i may have worked it out. If i am already watching a thread and then put up another post, if i click on the "click here to watch this thread" it actually turns into not watching the thread.
Don't know if anyone can follow that. I'm going to bed with a headache, lol.
