Broadband?

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

Who has a broadband conection? We just got ours this week and it is wonderful. So fast, I can't beleave it. It would be fun to get together on Yahoo and voice chat. We were talking to Laura and it was almost like a telephone coversation. We did have a few problems but we will get those worked out.

Rubbing it in, eh? I've had broadband from 1998 until we moved here in December, 2000. Today we're on ISDN, which, while fairly fast, is no broadband. :)

Enjoy it, pal.

I am enjoying it. We have had a 56k for the last few years and started with a 14.4. So I am very happy.

Wigan, Landcashire, United Kingdom

Well here in Britain, BT have put the cost of broadband down, but for the likes of me its still too expensive for what i use the internet for.Look at www.btinternet.com for further information.

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

We have! Elisa + Kolumbus 512/256 ADSL. Dave, do you have ISDN? I think you should have ADSL... Anyway, broadband is expensive, but really worth of it.

We don't have that option here in Mayberry :-)

Oklahoma City, OK(Zone 7a)

DSL is so much faster I can't ever imagine going back. Visiting my parents drives me bonkers now.

In fact, many times, I'll have more than one page of Dave's Garden up so that I can be loading pictures on one and responding to a thread on another, or chatting on one and checking the forums on the other. :)

Can't get enough of this site, you know.

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

For here anyways, the cable out preforms the DSL. My friends get downloads on DSL at 100kb or less we are getting them at 150kb. I love this. I'm done gloating now Dave.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

LOL, Smiln - you sound like me! Are you always running into memory errors because you've had so much open for so long? I often am editing photographs, surfing several websites, and doing my e-mail all at once. Only now I can listen to streaming music or books at the same time. It's so cool. I'm like a kid in a candy shop; it's like we've gotten a whole NEW internet since we can access so many things that just crept before.

Sharpsville, PA(Zone 5a)

They just ran the cable lines in my area. We are thinking of getting rid of our telephones and just using our cell phones and getting the cable hookup for the computer. Everyone I hear from loves it

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

Bolshaja strana - bolshie problemi - you know..!

Jonesboro, GA(Zone 7b)

Yep Broadband is the way to go if it is available to you. I costs a little more, but I can't imagine haveing to "dial-up" everytime I wanted to just pop in. I leave it on all the time so I get a "jingle" evrytime there is an email so I can usually answer right away. If you get rid of one of your phone lines it makes up for the difference in the cost of the service.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I just love the cable, and like Azalea can't imagine going back to dial up. I can open several windows without it slowing down at all and was amazed at how fast a whole page of photos would open.
Our local phone company offers an even faster DSL service, but it was very expensive. The regular DSL was the same price as cable. Our bill is the same as dial up plus the extra phone line, so I figure it's worth it to not have the agrivation.

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

That is strange that you would say your DSL is faster Cala. I thought it was slower. I have too friends here in town that have it and there download rate is about 50kb slower than mine. That could be the difference in the phone companys though. Do you know anyone who has it, so you could see what they get in at. Or maybe your cable is slower than ours. I though they would be the same but maybe not. Oh well even if it is slower it is still fast:-)

Lewis Center, OH(Zone 6a)

i'm gonna have to break down and order cable modem service too. sigh.

howie, do you guys turn your connection off when you're not using it? is there a hack threat?

Surry, VA(Zone 7b)

Hey Vic, you aren't the only one that lives in Mayberry. ;o)

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

I live in the country that surrounds Mayberry. No cable, no DSL, lucky they invented satellite dishes and phone lines. I'm stuck with dial up for the rest of my life I think.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Pangie - Just saw your post. The connection is always on. If you use a router there is hardware-based firewall in it, plus you can run ZoneAlarm, TinyFirewall, BlackIce, or one of the other software-based firewall programs. That's what we do, and it's done well for us. We have not had any alerts from ZoneAlarm since installing the router; it's stopped any port scan attempts before they got to the PC.

(Zone 5a)

I have cable and it's pretty fast. I like the idea that I can download two different things at the same time and still be playing SolSuite. I hope I never have to go back to a dial up again.

Feeding Hills, MA(Zone 5a)

I absolutely love mine. I go to someone elses house and cannot stand waiting for things to move along on their computers. People who have used mine run out and buy it.

Who has time to wait?

(Zone 5a)

Here! Here!

Feeding Hills, MA(Zone 5a)

You won't be sorry!

Plymouth, PA(Zone 5b)

I can remember when we used a 300 baud modem... then we upgraded to a 1500 baud then we were booking with a 14.4 then 28.8... after that there was nothing like a 56 k modem... But broadband has got to be next to the best there is.
I would Never go back. Actually mine isnt to bad a month.. Considering the cost of the extra phone line we had and the Isp charges its only 3.00 more a month.

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

It is a little higher priced here but DH figures it will be worth it not to live with a green eyed monster....and he still thinks it will make me spend less time on line! ROFLOL
The sweetie doesn't have a clue!

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

How ya liking that broadband, Zany? I still yip and hollar when I see a 3mb file download in seconds. Yippee!

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

You should see me grinn at the download and uploading times! I can't believe how great it is!!!

Oklahoma City, OK(Zone 7a)

DSL and won't ever go back.

Spring Hill, FL(Zone 9a)

What broadband providers are y'all using? Like is it AOL, Roadrunner or somebody else?

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Ours is Adelphia Powerlink. We're too far from the switching station to get DSL, so cable's it. It's faster than our friend's DSL, anyway.

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

I got cable about a month ago and it is good, but not what I expected. Not worth the price from my area. My Dialup was not so slow i guess. Depends on who you use.

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

Mine is a cable connection and it is so much faster than the dial up modem we had! Our area is till on antiquated copper phone lines and the service was horrid. Downloads that used to take me 5-6 HOURS now take a couple of minutes!

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

Zanymuse, I want what you have!

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL Weeds you sound like I did until DH gave in and ordered the cable access for me!

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

Zany, I have cable, no husband, and am hard to please!
