Big changes to forums - please read this

This morning I implemented two major changes to the forums that I've been planning for several months.

The first change: Misc. forums will no longer be on the DG homepage. The miscellaneous forums are now only available by "watching" those forums (see this page: http://davesgarden.com/forumpreferences.php ), and they will also be available by clicking the "Forums" link on the right side of the page.

The second change: All forums are now photo-enabled. We have so many garden-related forums, and I believe that each of them should at least have the option of including a picture with your post. This is not to turn each forum into a photo-forum, but rather to give the author a chance to increase the substance of their post.

Great changes Dave. Especially glad to see photos enabled on each forum.

Coming up each day with better ideas, Daves' is really taking off, spend half my day on here, nobody is doing the housework! Who cares? It'll still be there when I'm gone!

I noticed there were photos in the forums today and drifted over this way to check out the latest. I like! Being able to post a picture in the computer forum will be nice for things like showing weird ways a printer is printing, what a screen looks like, etc. Cool beans!

Well done Dave!I especially like the fact that you can post photos on each forum.

I like the photo thing also, but... I have uploaded several photos, to orchid and tropical forum.. no one has send a comment and only about 3-8 people have viewed the thread... could there be some photo image or some symbol with the thread link that people would know there's a photo?

I certainly could do that, but the concern I would then have is that it would turn all the forums into photo-centric forums.

Keeping them the way they are would prevent people from only reading threads that included pictures. All threads should be given equal ground, whether they have a photo or not.

That's my opinion - maybe someone else can convince me of otherwise?

Think people will come to realise that there are likely to be photos in any forum and hopefully this is going to lead to a better spread of postings and read threads throughout DG. Thanks Dave :) May just take a little time. You could always have a moan to people in eg general discussion Evert - get some converts!

Maybe it is every peoples right to choose do they want to see photos or text.. haha. Anyway, if t you think it is better so, maybe then..

The photos forum is a "Misc. Forum".

I don't have the abillity to post pictures on all the forums? I don't have the JPG listed at the bottom of the some of the pages as you would in photos.

Way to go Dave. How do you find the time to do all this? Thanks.

It should be there on all of the forums. However, the feature only works with new threads, not when posting a reply.

Thanks Trish, I think it was my computer. It will show up sometimes and sometimes not. Oh well I will have to deal with that later, right now all I can think about is my baby Bittles.
