Just thought I'd let you know that Lee finally wrote me back and they are having problems rooting Rothkirch. Lee said they hope they don't lose the mother plant. He said that this is just one of the cultivars they are having problems with. Guess, Eric, that we will have to do without this one for another year. I tried.
Is Lee female or male? Just assumed, male. Sorry if I got the wrong gender above.
Rothkirch availability at NH
Brugie you should tell him [her] how Monika said to propigate it - by air layering. I wonder if hey've tried that method...
rats and that was our only line on it here :(
Lee is a male and he knows how to air layer very well indeed already. Hes good at grafing Brugmanisa as well.
I looked at nhes website. I could not find Rothkirch but a B. aurea Pink, which looks much like L'Amour. Rothkirch does not have such a large calyx.
I have that B.aurea pink from them as well. Its definitly not Rothkirch. I did see Rothkirch when they first recieved it, but as it was only a few inches tall it didn't really impress me at the time. If I knew what I know now though....
Cross this aurea Pink to your candida Species. If it is L'Amour, take the chance of maybe getting a double pink for a start.
Rothkirch is in their paper catalog.
I didnt know.
I was wondering about that hybrid...would be nice to know who hybridized it at the least. Hopefully I will have a L'amour to compare it to before long....I have noticed that particular pink aurea hybrid is very hard to root as compared to some other aurea types. I was primarily going to use my various pink aurea types as pollen donors this year and of course only pink aurea or yellow aurea type pollen to my pink aurea's themselves. I only have a few white aurea types. I know Citronella is not considered an aurea, but it certainly reminds me of a white arborea...lol..actually a candida type...sure wish I knew the parentage on that one...but I imagine a bit of Butterfly pollen might do it justice.
Citronella is not a candida. Forgot to look in records.
Monika, it may not be a candida as I don't have the records on it, but the calyx is definitly from a versicolor from what I can tell...ahh, but as fat as the calyx is..are you saying that the calyx has a bit of suaveolens in it as well? So in effect it would have aurea, suaveolens, and versicolor genes...The shape of the corolla certainly doesn't give that away though if thats the case.

Monika,
I have both the Aurea Pink and Candida Species....I hope to make a cross as soon as they bloom.
Earl better have an aurea pink, it's all I want to buy from him!!!
Just bringing this back up - I was just looking through some old lists of mine and saw that Barbara Ward has it on her list from last year. Rothkirch, that is.
it isn't on her current list
Yes, it looks as if more than 3 different USA suppliers of Rothkirch are no longer offering Rothkirch. I know Lee hybridizes and I suspect the other 2 hybridize as well....
If they obtained their Rothkirch from Germany or Europe, it would be interesting to know from whom. Some retailers offer Rosa Kornett, a aurea cultivar, as Rothkirch, because they dont know the difference between the two. This cultivar is also a little bit reluctant in rooting.
Hodniks is the one most people have gotten their Rothkirch from and where they recieved theirs from if memory serves me as well. Is the one Hodniks carries the right one?
It depends on his source. If it is Rudy Marechal - !!!!!!
Does anyone have a picture of Rosa Kornett so we can compare it to Rothkirch? Whats the parentage of Rosa Kornett?

Eric, your killing us with these double pictures. Now we'll have to work twice as hard to make our own.
Brugmansia...thanks for that hyperlink..Now I want some other passifloras!!You did this to me!! LOL :-)
Kyle, have you seen the new passifloras that Logees has?
Snowhermit...seen em??? I ordered some of them!! Awesome colors..but that site that brugmansia posted on another thread for brug plants has some european hybrid passifloras..Red Inca just about sent me over the edge!!LOL :-)
LOL. I should have known you had already seen them.Know what you mean about getting sent over the edge. Isn't it painful to see a beautiful plant that you would love to have and know that it's out of your reach because it's not in the US.
Kyle, $12.50 will get that passiflora for you from Kartuz.
It is a beauty!!
Brugie, I think you just made Kyle a happy man.
Lol,
Always glad to help in any way I can.
Brugmansia..I see they can't ship to America..so a few of their brugs and passifloras are outta reach...**SNAPPING HIS FINGERS IN DISGUST*** DANG! :-)
Brugman! A B. arborea Rosa Kornett, as offered by Hodnik, would be THE WORLD GREATEST Hit!!!!!
I take it your saying theres more confusion to follow. Are any others not as they seem. Ie Rosabelle and Butterfly?
The problem lies by such people, who classify hybrids without any or only little knowledge. They hand ' their ' namend hybrids over to other people without or only little knowledge and so on. A french Brug collector deceided, the Ecuador Pink is not named correct and changed the name to Exotica Pink. In many european collections, you will find Exotica Pink and Ecuador Pink. If you order both, you will get Ecuador Pink twice. This Frenchman send the real Ecuador Pink to me, so I would quit complaining. It was Esmeraldas he sended to me, a wild form of Ecuador, found, named and introduced to Germany in the early 90ties by Dr. Holguin. He did the same with Pink Beauty. After seeing Pink Lady blooming, he deceided, it looks like Pink Beauty, so it must be it. Thats how all the confusion starts. It will never end as I am not able even here in Germany to get those retailers to correct their web sites. How could it be, that a retailer had Perlmutt twice in his collection; one time as Perlmutt and the second plant as Butterfly.
The two have nothing in common; they cannot be confused with each other.
Pleased to always be a little enlightened each and every time you post. May the learning never end.
Sincerely,
Eric
The european Ecuador Pinks originate from Logees. This Frenchman has no legimitation to change the name of the plant to Exotica Pink. I deceided to enjoy my brugmansias and dont care any longer !
Ahh, but one must....there is nothing worse than getting the same Brugmansia when one is really hoping for a particular variety or hybrid. I have recieved Cypress Gardens before when I wanted an aurea...go figure. Besides the intentional renaming plants sometimes go out under the wrong names. Once they have arrived at someones house under that new name they may be sent out under the same wrong name. As they say, things happen.
Things can happen Eric, but......
Yes, well my latest Monte Blanche was a double of some sort. So, yes it seems that many things do happen...but when they happen intentionally thats something different. The only hybrids I can be certain of as they say are the ones I have grown from seed.
Few years ago, we tried to identify questionable hybrids such as CG, Grand Marnier etc. Since the plants differ much when grown on different places, the safest method is the cross pollination. CGs are thrown in masses without names on the european market by dutch nurseries. But pollnated with my 16 years original CG from Logees, there is not a single setting of seed pods. The same with Grand Marnier or Lacks. I tried to explain this simple method but either they did not understand or believed me. Last year, during our Brugmansia meeting, I told one of the retailers, that what they are doing is fraud on the customer and brug lover, selling for instance CG and Juetner Orange as different species but knowing, that it is one and the same plant. But it also speaks for the US nursery, that claims to know all about Brugmansias, offering Juetner Orange and CG as different species. They seem not to know how easy this could be cleared up. By the way, I told them about it, after seeing the pictures. But nothing has been changed yet.
