Anyone familiar with Diascia?

Cocoa, FL(Zone 9b)

This is an annual, rather dainty, with small rosy pink flowers. I planted one last week and I can't find much info regarding this plant on the Internet or in any of my garden books. The flowers are tubular and it needs ample water and shade. Should bloom misdummer through fall.

Hope this helps... http://www.botany.com/diascia.html

Louisa we had D rigescens for a couple of years but it hated the wet winters. Beautiful plants aren't they. It died last year when a wall fell on top of it, sometimes I wonder why I bother to garden LOL.

I have D barberae still growing away in the greenhouse and yesterday, I found a hanging basket outside with one still growing happily, must be in a sheltered spot. Ice Cracker is my favourite variety.

Hi Baa - needs a really well draining soil, gritty!! You could always protect them in the winter from the wet with a cloche!! Well worth the effort!!

Sorry I didnt explain very well there did I LOL. The last plant we had, we put in a very free draining little bed next to a south facing wall because the previous one had died from the wet soil. Then the wall fell over and one of the bricks smashed right into the centre of the plant, it never came back :(

If I do buy it again it will be going in a container! LOL

Give the rigescens a try and take cuttings just in case you do lose it. If you checked the link I gave, it indicates the ones that have proved hardy!!

I have several varieties of diascia, it doesn't like the heat, but blooms here in fall and spring. It will sometimes put up a few blooms in the winter when the weather is mild. It doesn't mind full sun in spring and fall, but likes some shade during the hot part of the day in summer.
