For me it was "if you don't know how to do something ask somebody who does". I first read it in a "Dear Abby" column many years ago.It has saved me a lot of time, money and consternation since.
what's the best advice you ever got?
Don't take yourself so seriously, maybe. Or, do your best, and that's all a mule can do.
Mine was "measure twice, cut once"!!! In sewing and in sawing! Jo
Just be yourself!!
A hundred years from now, you will never know the difference
Do all things in moderation.
Marry my left arm Lisa my wife
take it one day at a time
Do unto others as you would have them do to you!!
all things work together for good,
My foster mom died when I was ten I remember her saying as she tried to teach me to crochet===if at first you dont succeed try try again.
All men are created equal, but woman is superior
Everything happens for a reason.
Listen to what someone has to say, and think about your answer before you speak.
I'm with SoCal..the Golden rule is one I try to live by.
"Do unto to others as you would be done by"
And one that has helped me through rough times..is
"Time heals all"

if you are going to do something, do it right or it will have to be redone.
Never give up and You can do anything you want to if you want it bad enough.
"Where there's a will, there's a way" This comes from my Mother who endured many, many hardships in her life and managed to raise all of us kids to be adults.
Like farmgirl21: Do it right the first time.
And speaking of Dear Abby, a woman once wrote saying how much she wanted to become a doctor, but she was already in her 40's and was concerned at how old she'd be in 10 years when she graduated from medical school. Abby asked her "How old will you be in 10 years if you DON'T go to medical school?" Well, the woman went on to become a doctor and wrote Abby to let her know that she'd finally achieved her dream thanks to Abby's advice.
So, don't ever think you're too old to start something new!
keep your chin up and never give up
"Don't sweat the small stuff, and remember, most stuff IS small stuff."
You have no idea how much less stressful my life is now that I have learned to do this. I picked it up going to family classes while a relative was in treatment for alcoholism and he picked up the Serenity Prayer. They work!
JoanJ that is mine too. When my kids want to do something they say yes Mom I know -Where there is a will there is a way.
The best advise I ever got was from my mom -
"Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it!"
And she was one smart lady.
Don't waste too much time worrying - the things you worry about usually don't much matter; the worse things that happen happens like on a Tuesday afternoon when nothing at all is going on.
One Day At a Time &Keep it Simple
keep a sense of humor. (from my dad)
said learn to laugh even at yourself or else you will keep getting trudged down by things. (ok, so its not word for word, COCO, but basic gist right?) :-)
Amaryllisgal,
There was an article in our local paper this week about a lady who has become a romance writer....at....age....81.
No, it's never too late.
;-} to you CoCoSeed..........((((hugs))))
When I was a young wife, I complained to my mother about all the junk cars my husband hauled home and parked on my nice lawn. She'd had the same problem with my father years before, so she told me. "Honey, if you can't move it or burn it, plant petunias around it." I've always considered it a nice philosphy for life in some circumstances!
