For me it was "if you don't know how to do something ask somebody who does". I first read it in a "Dear Abby" column many years ago.It has saved me a lot of time, money and consternation since.

"Where there's a will, there's a way" This comes from my Mother who endured many, many hardships in her life and managed to raise all of us kids to be adults.

Like farmgirl21: Do it right the first time.

And speaking of Dear Abby, a woman once wrote saying how much she wanted to become a doctor, but she was already in her 40's and was concerned at how old she'd be in 10 years when she graduated from medical school. Abby asked her "How old will you be in 10 years if you DON'T go to medical school?" Well, the woman went on to become a doctor and wrote Abby to let her know that she'd finally achieved her dream thanks to Abby's advice.

So, don't ever think you're too old to start something new!

You have no idea how much less stressful my life is now that I have learned to do this. I picked it up going to family classes while a relative was in treatment for alcoholism and he picked up the Serenity Prayer. They work!

The best advise I ever got was from my mom -
"Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it!"
And she was one smart lady.

Don't waste too much time worrying - the things you worry about usually don't much matter; the worse things that happen happens like on a Tuesday afternoon when nothing at all is going on.

When I was a young wife, I complained to my mother about all the junk cars my husband hauled home and parked on my nice lawn. She'd had the same problem with my father years before, so she told me. "Honey, if you can't move it or burn it, plant petunias around it." I've always considered it a nice philosphy for life in some circumstances!
