Cool new feature with watched threads

Middle, TN(Zone 6b)

I just noticed that when I find my list of threads I am watching and click on them, view them and then go back to the main starting page they are deleted after I have seen them. If they are still there, it means that someone else has posted and the thread needs to be viewed again. Thanks Dave. That is really a nice feature. My old method was to leave DG and then come back to see if anything new had been added. This saves me having to do that. Great. I don't know if I explained that very well. I am not really good at computer talk.

Isn't it a great feature, indeed? It changed the way I browse the threads, for sure. I can't get enough of it.

Yes, it is really a time saver. I am glad you added it to the browsing features. I feel sure others are going to love it as much as I do.

It's the best thing since sliced bread!! Jo

okay, I get it now. I used to go into the threads and see what I had already read if I was watching it, now I don't see a "YES" if it've read it from my watched thread list? Am I right on this? I've been away for a few days and trying to catch up.

I must be missing something here. When I boot up and go to Daves Garden, I will have a list of watched threads. I go through them one by one, but when I'm finished, I still have to refresh my homepage to get them to go away. Problem is that after I go to another forum and come back to my home page, the watched threads are ALL back again. I have to keep refreshing to get them off the page. I guess it isn't a big deal, but when they all come back, I don't know if there is a new post or not until I visit or as I said before refresh the home page. I just have a Compaq computer that my server says is the touchiest PC she has ever run into. :-)

Brugie,

Your browser is caching the front page. The way to avoid that is to not use your back arrow. Instead, return to the homepage by clicking on the DG logo on the top-right hand of every page.

Try that out and see if it works.

Thanks Dave......

Did it work?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Yes, but tonight it is working to just hit back. Think I need to take some classes in understanding a computer. Thanks. At least I'll know what to do if the back button doesn't work for me. What I don't understand is why it works one time and not the next.

Something else you can try is to go to Internet Options --> General --> then...

Click the "settings" button under the "Temporary Internet Files" section.

Once there, make sure the "check for newer versions of stored pages" has "every time I visit the page" selected.

This forces IE to compare the cached (stored) page is compared to the version at the website, and you see the most recent page....Most of the time, LOL.

This setting will always check for changes, but it will slow down your browsing, especially to sites you've been to before.

Gardenwife,

Just made that change and will go see what happens. Thanks.

Here I am again and that didn't help either. I'll just have to get used to always going back to my homepage. It is just that going back to my homepage after reading each thread becomes a real pain. However, since I'm not computer literate, I'll just have to deal with it. Thanks for your help.

Shirley

Well, it was worth a try! ;) You can also right-click while you're on a page and select refresh, too. Just don't right-click if you're in a text box (like the "Your message" window where you compose forum messages), or you'll just get choices for editing like copy, paste, etc.
