Do you Yahoo?

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

I don't use Yahoo that much, but if you do and you're reading this, did you know you couldn't possibly get to DG from there?

That's right - Yahoo has never indexed Dave's Garden - not the plants database, the forums, or the Garden Watchdog.

I've submitted an application for them to review and index us. But undoubtedly their web people get bombarded with similar requests, so there's no telling when they'll get around to mine.

So, if you use Yahoo, you might want to drop them a note and tell them your favorite gardening site should be indexed right away! If enough people ask, it might move our request up a few notches.

(And by the way, I'm dying to ask this: if you Yahoo, do you call yourself a Yahooligan, or what? I've always been curious, LOL. :)

YAHOO! I use their mail service but do searches through Copernic. But didn't dave have to block some search engines recently due to getting to many hits all at once? I remember thinking it was a sign of how popular the site has become since most sites are fighting to get onto the engines and Dave was having to block some!

Yep, that's right Zany.......

Zany, that's true - I think there were several smaller search engines that converged on DG at the same time. Yahoo is more on par with Google and some others - it's an "industry leader" and a lot of people use it, so getting them to index us is more difficult than some of the smaller who are actively looking for sites to index.

Once they index us, there isn't any slowdown in using the site, until they come back for updates, and even then Dave can work with them to be sure it doesn't grind everything to a halt. (I ran this one by him before I posted it, just to be sure he would like to have DG indexed by another search engine!)

Right, Yahoo is not a crawler. In fact, their database for searches is taken from Google, which I allow to in.

I think the part of Yahoo that Vols is talking about is their high quality category system. For example, this page:

http://dir.yahoo.com/Recreation/Home_and_Garden/Lawn_and_Garden/

Actually gives GardenWeb the "Cool Site" sign. That really does need to be rectified. Is this along the lines of what you're talking about, vols?

In that case let's get them to put us on! I figure the more people who find this great site the more I can learn and the more friends I can make! I will e-mail them too!

That's the one, Dave. And I think we should swipe the sunglasses from GardenWeb, because we are WAYYY cooler, LOL.

Seriously, Dave's Garden should be right up there with the other gardening sites you see on that list.

Right now, if you do a search from Yahoo for "Dave's Garden" or "Garden Watchdog" you won't find us. You have to use Google or one of the other optional search engines they link to.

I don't use yahoo but will happy to tell them about DG...Hey, I tell EVERYONE about DG. :-)

I must be getting OLDER. I could swear that I posted on this yesterday. If anyone reads a posting of mine that doesn't make sense have Dave transfer it here.

Here's what I thought I posted.
go_vols, I call myself Jim or Georgia Red Clay.
I do use yahoo as my home page. Mostly because of the features of yellow pages, white pages and maps that are readily there. I usually use dogpile to search.

I use Google always... or almost. I have Google Toolbar, it's very useful :) http://toolbar.google.com
