Until now, members who wished to be subscribers had to pay the full $15 for an annual subscription, but recently we made a change to our subscription system that allows members to subscribe to DG for 2 months at a time.
Members who go through the PayPal subscription method may subscribe for a $5 / 2 month subscription. This allows them to get a taste of DG before they pony up the full $15.
(Of course, anyone reading this post is already a subscriber, but now you know about this new option in case you ever find yourself discussing DG with your friends.)
Dave
2 month subscriptions now available
That's a good idea Dave - test the water before you plunge right on in :-)
Good idea. For the cost of a movie or an inexpensive meal out, they can experience the thrill of a lifetime. LOL
Sounds good. Maybe I can talk one of my local friends into joining now, since she can do it on a trial basis first. One question though, that I know she will ask. If they decide to stay on, do they pay the remainder of the $15 for the rest of their year, or do they start their year by paying the full $15?
Joan,
The $5 subscription gives them 2 months from the moment they subscribe.
If after, say, 1 month, they pay the full $15, they will have a full year added to their membership.
So, basically, $5 buys you 2 months, and $15 buys you a year, regardless of the status of your membership at that time. It's just added onto whatever you already have.
Does that make sense?
dave
So that mean's their full out of pocket expense would still be $15.00.....or would it be $20.00?

They can pay $5 for 2 months at a time, or they can pay $15 for a year at a time.
If they pay $5 and then immediately turn around and pay $15, they will have purchased 14 months in total, and have paid $20.
Dave
Okay...that's cool....;)

Okay Dave, makes perfect sense now. I was a little confused about that. I'm going to talk to my friend and see if she will try it. I know she will learn so much, as she is even a newer gardener than I am. She caught the bug from me.
5 bucks isn't too hard to swallow, and 2 months is plenty of time to give it a try. If they don't like the place, they are only out $5. :) Seem like a win win!
It took me a bit to figure out the logic, but I think that does make the most sense - somebody can try it for two months, at which point they might decide they can live without it, but in a few weeks they can come back and sign up (when the withdrawal symptoms become unbearable - grin)
And you're not trying to retro-actively prorate stuff, which always gets messy to track :)
Good idea! For less than the price of a couple tall Starbuck lattes, you can have two months of DG - what a deal!
Will this be posted on the home page so when new people come into Daves Garden they will know they can do it for 2 months? (I am sure it will but didn't figure it would hurt so ask). This is a great idea they will get to see how they like it and become addicted just like the rest of us.
....and who knows, ....we may even get back some of our old members, for awhile at least.

I had another thought along this line too Dave. I'm thinking that when it comes time to renew our subscriptions in September or October, I don't remember when. Anyway, say for example the price will still be 15.00 for one year. Maybe you could offer 2 years for 25.00 or something along those lines. Sort of like our internet provider..if we pay one year in advance, it's 19.95 a month, if we pay by the month, it's 21.95. Anyway, just thought you might want to consider it...vic
mystic: The information is available to the non-subscribers, indeed. All the non-subscribers are directed here http://davesgarden.com/whysubscribe.php whenever they try to access a subscriber-only area.
vic: I'll give that some thought! It's a good idea!
Why not a free trial time before subscribing? F.ex. 2 weeks, or 15 days? - You know, 5 $ might be much for somebody- :9
Evert, vols and I had a long discussion about that several times, actually, and we never could finally decide to do it.
The potential for abuse is too great. Making someone pay even the smallest amount prevents the abuse.

Dave, you one smart hombre, man! Thinking all the time...do you ever let that brain rest? Now....about our spell checker......LOL Jo
OOOOPS!! Just went to the next thread and saw your answer on the Spell Checker issue...so....forget the spell checker.
Now....What about reviving the Who's on line...(any way we can opt NOT to participate....like we did with our birthday?....for those not wishing to be shown on line?) That would make it easy to go to Flowox's chat room and chat with someone. ;)
