Laughed all the way home

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

Oh, my, I am feeling special!!! Now, Shoe, let's be sure you understand the technicalities here. (Oh, why am I doing this masochistic thing?) You see, my name is Aimée, and if you were to call me, as Louisa did, you would hear me say it as Ah-May on the answering machine that isn't a machine. (It's some computer I never see that takes messages and is called call notes or some such). So, my name being Aimée Grace, many people like to call me Amazing Grace. My kids mostly, and it almost sounds like there's a touch of sarcasm in their voices. Other people call me an assortment of things, including a doctor for whom I once had a soft spot because he was bald, and I had to send many forms back to him for his signature, and he called me pia which starts with pain. So to this day, if I hear someone calling across the store, since I am short and can't see over the shelves, "Pia" or "Amazing", I answer back sweetly, "Yes?" But you just take your time, I am patiently waiting to see what that rich imagination will conjure up for someone who has been called everything from amazing to , well, an extreme end.

Sniff, I wish I had saved the story for later. Now I'll never know what Shoe would have named me.

I agree with you, I have never laughed so much. I love the part where he talks about his sister's chest, I about fell of the couch laughing...I thought that he was descirbing me lol.

DH and I *love* Garrison Keillor's radio show. I just finished reading 'Wobegon Boy', which was just as good. Since I'm originally a Lutheran German from Wisconsin, his stories about the Norwegian Lutherans in Minnesota hit extremely close to home, and they ring so true. It's just hysterical!

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

Windy I see you resurrected this thread :-) I share in your glee at finding such a gifted comedian. Since the first time I heard him, I have never missed a show - every Sunday without fail. Still haven't got round to reading his books - maybe next winter!! The Swedish connection really is hysterical - especially about that couple (can't remember them now) where the woman can't understand a word her husband is saying.....Best comedy in America for sure!!

Burlington, NC(Zone 7b)

Gosh folks - you are so right about Garrison Keilor. I had a friend from Minnesota and our conversations were pretty interesting to say the least - just think about it - oof-da and Hi Y'all! Then one Saturday night I was rocking my son to sleep and here on the Disney channel came Garrison Keilor on stage - the first time I had experienced him. He reminded me so much of my friend that I had to lay the baby down so I would'nt wake him laughing and shaking so hard. The story thread he had that night had German Lutherans, the city council deciding on what to do about the town sewer system and the rich lady who's basement caught the spring thaw run off from the broken sewer during the church ladies social. Hysterics cannot begin to explain it. My sides hurt. It still remember it 13 years later!!! Now I find out that one of my church choir members is the mother of the fellow who leads the Red Clay Ramblers which appear on much of his shows..... I've met Clay - beautiful voice and wonderful musician...

Enjoy!

Louisa I can't seem to get the radio show but I did get the book Camp Wobegon and I enjoyed it so much. That poor boy's hair cut describes my OB hair cuts as a child lol. I wish I could find a station that has his shows.

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

windy can't you do a search for the station??? He has such a dry, droll voice....... a master!! Suzy, glad you put the baby down first before you dropped him!! :-)

(Zone 5a)

Louisa, Keillor is doing a live show from Vienna, VA (which according to Mapquest.com is near Washington DC) on June 8. Check out the site: http://www.prairiehome.org/season/index.shtml

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

Well thank you for that and wouldn't it be great if we could go and see the show. I'll have to see if we can somehow manage it. Just had a thought, could also visit Ikea just outside Washington and stay the night!! A double delight!! :-)

Buffalo, WV(Zone 7a)

Lana welcome to the fan club - I'm quite hooked!!!

markleysburg, PA(Zone 5a)

Have listened to him for years and especia;;y his jabs at the Lutherans and Jessie Ventura are hilarious. I get him on WV PR on Sunday and Pittsburgh NPR on Saturday. His private eye section is always good. Hope you get to see him in DC. Talking about comedy Louisa I try to never miss the english comedies on PBS ( cant get them here but do when I am on the road) The lady who plays Hyacinth on Keeping up Appearances is one of the best Actresses around. I caught her in a drama one night and she was just as good as in the comedy.

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

Yes Shirley I agree with you about Hyacinth Bouquet and for the life of me I can't think of her real name!! She is a good all-round actress!! I believe she plays the part of a sleuth too!! I don't know how many times I've seen repeats of Keeping Up Appearances but I still laugh!!! Did you ever watch Dad's Army, Fawlty Towers and my favourite, the Vicar of Dibley??? If you get a chance, don't miss the Vicar - English comedy at it's very best!!

(Zone 5a)

Thanks GrannyL for the links, I'll check them out and see if I can get it.
