.....an aboslutely, drop dead, georgeous day in the Red River Valley today!!!!! Be playing in the yard all day and it felt soooooooo gooooood!! Hope everyone else had beautiful weather today........spring can't be far away!!
"eyes"
well it's been..........
Well, "eyes", the weather's not been too great in my part of the UK today, but (look in UK forum, for robins and half term) there's a pair of robins building a nest in my garden.......
.......so they're convinced spring is HERE. And the plants are shooting and flowering and the birds are singing......
Mmmmmmmmm as you say - drop dead gorgeous!!
Hey eyes,
It poured rain this morning, then stopped, so I decided this was the best time to go out and pull some of those darned weeds that grow so good during the winter. They were coming out so good with the soil nice and wet. Then it started to rain again, went inside for 30 min., stopped raining, and I went back outside and have been there all day. I even decided to do a little landscaping design in one of my beds....I have a nice berm type hill in the middle of the yard, but the water just runs off of it to fast to seep in, so I decided to tier it up alittle with some red brick that has been stored on the side of the house. I even placed some stepping stones into the hill so I could reach the top without stamping down my dirt all the time.
So, it wasn't 'drop dead gorgeous' outside, but it was still nice enough to play in the dirt. YEA!
Donna
Lucky you 'eyes'. Our weathermen got it wrong again - they do that so many times. We actually had snow today!! Not enough to settle but so cold and windy with it!! No outside jobs for me today thankyou!!
EYES, it was a georgeous day here today also! We worked outside in the yard all day. I remember about 3:00 thinking that I didn't want the day to end. The temps hit 82*! I finished my chicken's coop that would make Martha Stweart green! My family & I truly had a great day.
It was a glorious day here too....well, nowhere near 82*, but it wasnt raining, and the sun was out. I dug out some plants to ship to some people...did a little weeding, boy they sure do grow well in the winter, what's with that???
It did start to sprinkle a bit, but I kept at it. Sowed some poppies, and prepared a couple of flats, nora barlow columbines, korean angelica (thanks Poppysue) and something else...gee, memory freeze...let me just think for a sec....
okay. it was buddleia golstrum, we shall se just how well I did in a month or so.
Looked at my peony that I had moved, and wondered how to divide...someone was looking for a tree peony, and mine has gotten rather large, could stand a trim. I have some barbery tht I am tempted to just yank out and gdt rid of, it's starting to get on my nerves. Surveyed all my poor brugs...put out some bird grub...eekkk dehydrated caterpilars.
oh yeah, and surveyed the squuirrell damage to all my bulbs... I'm not happy with those little critters, they have been digging up my bulbs and eating them...chomp chomp chomp and leaving the fine roots...must get stuck in their teeth, kind of like corn silk in our teeth - lol.
and....my last big chore of the day:
when my MIL was here visiting (6 months worth) she insisted on buying some bulbs to take back to turkey, well, I tried to explain to her tht 1) they would rot before she left if she left them in her room, 2) they needed a cold period to grow their roots 3) i think it's illegal to bring plants into a country (not that it stopped me...but)
but oh nooooo she insisted, and bought 4 fritillaria bulbs, the imperials which are as big as a fist - actually bigger than my fist. anyway, after a month in her room, they started to smell.....so she brought them out, and I said the only thing to do is to plant them, and before you leave, I will dig them up and prepare them for transportation. I put them in coffee tins that are actually carboard with metal rims, I thought it would be easy to cut thru the cardboard and pop them into another can like that and she could take them like that.
well, in december, I thought I had better check on them, and lo....and behold, a million roots, and not very sturdy ones, they looked so fragile, like if i just looked at it crosseyed it would snap, and sooo many of them, so I pretty much decided that she wasnt going to take them. When it was time for her to pack (I did the packing seeing as how she is the dowager princess) and not only did she fill the one measley suitcase she had brought, but 2 from me.....so finally when everything was packed, and she was duly admonished for buying so much stuff to take back, I told her there simply wasnt any room to take the bulbs.....
to make this oh so long story short....I transplanted those frittilaria bulbs today... lol, to say one simple thing, i wrote you all a book
well, here I've been hoping that it would warm up enough for me to put my bulbs in the ground..........wrong!!! It snowed today :(
Poor bulbs, they really need to get out there but the ground is rock hard.
