Hi Mary:
I'm Joan and I live in North Dakota. To date, I am the only one in North Dakota here on DG. It's pretty lonely up here. LOL! I've lived in North Dakota all my life, but I'm hoping to be able to move to at least zone 7 when and if I ever get to retire. Funny how it's not a place I'm looking to move to, but a zone, huh? Gardening on the border of zones 3/4 is a challenge. Someday I want to be able to grow some of the really neat stuff. I do have some of the neat things, but I have to bring them in over the winter.
I'm 41 years old and have 3 natural born children and two step-children. Mine are Jessie, 20; Jerri, 18, and Jaden, 13. Jessie and Jerri are daughters, Jaden is my son and my mini Michael Jordan. He lives to play ball. My step-kids are Michael, 19; and Lisa, 15. Jessie is going to college to be a Veterinarian, and Michael is going to college to be a Lawyer. Jerri, Jaden and Lisa are still in High School.
I was married to my first husband for 12 years. I've been married to my second husband for almost 9 years.
I just started really gardening last summer. Before that I only had time for a huge veggie garden to feed the troops. Now that the family is getting older, I found time to expand and start with flowers. I love it! Veggies can get so boring, and by the time canning season comes around, I am tired of them. LOL! I still do it though, as it is so much healthier for all of us.
DH and I both have full time jobs in County Government. I'm a County Treasurer, and DH is a County Sheriff.
We have 6 housecats, Bummy, Porky, Sylvester, Bug, Cricket and Weevil. One house frog, Bert. And one outside bunny, Butch, whom I know would have moved in too if the winter wouldn't have been so nice. We brought him in every summer storm last year. We are a big push over when it comes to pets I think. Most of our cats came to live with us when they were strays. They adopted us, not really us adopted them. The only exception is when Bug moved in, she got pregnant before we had a chance to get her to the vet. She is responsible for us having Cricket and Weevil. LOL!
I'm 5'4 and really should be taller to match my weight. I'm afraid I quit growing vertically though. I have short dark hair and dark eyes. We have 5 acres that I just started to really take a good look at last year. YIKES! Where's those rose colored glasses I wore for the last 10 years?
Hi. My name is Brenda. I tell people I am 50 but I will not really be 50 until June but have said I was 50 since my last birthday. I have 3 grown Children and at last count there were 7 Grandchildren. My Husband and I Have been together since 1976 (this is my second marriage) We are currently living in the country and are in the process of trying to purchase our own home. Unfortunately we can afford to rent in the country but can only afford to buy town :{ My hair is Gray in between bottles and as those of you who have been around for awhile know I am very shy...and quiet in nature...I am also willing to sell you the Golden Gate bridge...

Hi, I'm Pam. I will be 54 in exactly one week.
I was married to my first husband for 12 years and have been married to my Sam for 20 years. We now live in my hometown, but were on the road for 12 years. This included a stay in Belize, C.A.
We have two children:

I teach at an adaptive behavior unit and Sam has three tire stores in the NE Texas area.
My interest are gardening and painting Santas. Right now we are looking for a house in the country with an acre or two, so I can get all these plants out of the pots and into the ground. Wish me luck!!!!!

Hmmm, okay. I'm Terry (and yes, that can be a girl's name, LOL.) I'm still in my thirties - at least until next February. I've been married for 19 years to the same Tennessee Volunteer fan (as in FANatic - hence my name here. Our blood runs orange.)
We have three kids - two teenage boys, and a DD who came along several years later (WHAT were we thinking?)
We moved back to Tennessee about 20 months ago, leaving Oklahoma where we lived for 16 years. It's great to be closer to DH's family; unfortunately my family is still a ways away in Kansas and Colorado; someday maybe we'll convince them to move to God's country.
We have 1 1/4 acres here in middle Tennessee, and if you dig down six inches, you'll find one big giant ROCK. We have two lab mutts (Duke and Daisy) two cats and lots of fish in a pond. Your basic food chain in action. Deer, coyotes, skunks, raccoons, frogs, toads, birds, squirrels, moles and voles all visit our property from time to time. Some are more welcome than others.
I have a new GH this year, and I'm raising tomatoes to try to sell as seedlings. I love gardening, and since I'm a SAHM now, I'm glad I now have the time to do it; although I suspect DH wishes I'd spend more time painting the house we purchased and remodeled. (How many miles of trim can there BE in a house, anyway?) Welcome to DG!
LOL ruby!
Good that his conversation didn't get as religious as mine. =)
I am 13 and will be 14 on March 5th.
Dad is 48, mum will be 50 in June. My brother is 15 and will be 16 on March 27th.
My name is Evert as my nicname here says..
My hair is blonde, and I use styling mousse every day except weekends when I am at home LOL :)

Hi Mary and welcome to DG.,
My name is Donna and I just turned 54 yr.old. I have been married to my high school sweetheart for 34 great years. I could only have one child, her name is Dina, 30, and she is expecting her first child in July. I will finally be a grandma.
I was a beautician in my early years and became an Auburn redhead by accident and that is the same color I am wearing to this day. I do know that I don't like that white stuff under the red, I'm just too young yet. LOL
We bought this home 3 yrs. ago from a non gardener and I have been working on it constantly. Last year we finally redid the whole (small) backyard and we are having the front redone in about 2 weeks. This DG site, has cost me and my husband a """lot""" of money, I can't get enough plants for my garden. LOL
We have 1 dog, ShitZu called Rags who just turned 10 this week and 2 pond turtles. We had 4 Butterfly Koi but a Blue Heron came buy and had breadfast on US.
Donna
Oh my--- My name is Lana I am 37 till March.I was married to my first hubby for 12 years found out it's not cool to be hit on and emotionally abused. Married now to a wonderful man who is 28 on 18 Feb. With first marriage I had 2 wonderful kids. My son is 18 and a little to wild, my daughter is 17 and a real sweetheart. No kids with this marriage --yet I am contemplating a tubal reversal. I just wonder if I am to old to be having kids??? My passion is gardening, and at the moment I am having major withdrawl symptoms as It's cold up here in Wisconsin! I was born and raised in Texas.Gardening up here is quiet different----but I am adjusting! I babysit week-days, so that keeps me occupied:)
Ruby what do you see in Hosta??? Just wonderin' as I have 8 that I really don't care for. I guess I am partial to flowering stuff :) Maybe in the spring I will dig them up and send them you way!
I can now post because today is my 61st Birthday!! I am an uprooted English plant living in the good ol USA since 1997! Built our home last year on just under 2 acres of clay and forest and still battling with both!! My first English husband died 20 years ago and I am now married to a Georgia boy for the past 18 years! I have two children. A son in Chicago and two kids, another in July. My daughter lives in Germany with a precious new baby of 5 months!! I'm crazy about wild life, the countryside and all it entails. My passion is roses, whenever I can get them to flourish since the deer love them too!! Then it's trees, hydrangeas, viburnums and so much more. I have travelled the world over and am now firmly rooted in this Virginia clay.........but who knows!! I'm called Margaret and welcome you warmly to the DG family!!
Editing to include the fact that I have three cats (can't believe I didn't mention them) who have been with me since birth - English cats of course!! Two brothers who are 15 and our stray who is 12. Alas one is quite ill now with Chronic Renal Failure and his brother has also started to go downhill. They are the love of my life and are my 'babies'!!

Hi Mary,
Welcome to DG.
My name is Carol and I am from NJ (the hub! LOL)
I am 53, blonde hair, blue (sometimes green) eyes
Divorced once, no kids.
God's plan for me was to be the caregiver for the family which was and is my pleasure.
2nd time around, "love is lovier" thanks to Art my DH.
He's got 4 kids and is 61 till 3/27. He was a Telecommunications analyst til I got sick. Now he's a Maint. Manager at a local food chain.
My career was on Wall St. as a Muncipal Bond Trader, Underwriter, Salesman for 25 years. So my writing and spelling is usually shortcuts I learned from the "REAL WORLD".
We also, at one time, owned our own Video Business.
I became ill when I was 40 Esptein Barr/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome which left me with Fibromyalgia (not life threatening just dibilatating at times) Oh, it also makes you brain dead LOL Short term memory loss is NOT A GOOD THING. BTW if I ever forget to send a stamp for SASE please forgive me. I never forget on a trade; so don't worry bout that.
I have 2 dogs (just lost my 17 year old Yorkie, Shadow on Pearl Harbor Day) He was a true gift from DH and God above.
Have Wizard my boy-part husky, pit & shephard my gift to DH one Xmas. Loves everyone just like mommy.
Candy my girl-Yorkie given to me by my vet(a real b---- at times. Loves DH and most MEN. Also, just like her mommy LOL)
My sister is Fran. Her DH and she are redheads so are their 2 kids Christine and Ken. (I am the misfit I guess)
Christine my niece has given me a Great Nephew Mat borne 5 minutes after my birthday Sept. 14th. My Great Niece Katherine-(big blue eyes and a personality just like her Auntie with blonde hair too. God help the world there are 2 of us now)
Actually, both her children are blonde haired blue eyes. Now my niece feels like a misfit. I call her the NANNY LOL
I still am intrigued by the stock market (even if I am broke),
love gardening (even if I don't have any dirt). Here in urban american I do container gardening)
I also love to cook (gourmet and comfort food (but not clean up); Love decorating when I have money; I do crafts, too . Now DH and I are getting into astronomy. Oh and DH does, get this, counted cross stitch, very well I may add.
Sometimes I work at whatever is avail. when I'm feeling OK for extra cash to help pay for my addictions of plants and catalog shopping.
I was recently the Senior Site Manager and nutrition co-ordinator for Kosher meals on wheels and for a small group of Seniors, who I miss dearly. (I had to quit because of a recent flair-up of my condition) No, I am a Roman/Byzantine Catholic not Jewish in case you were wondering.
DH and I established and ran a catering service for our failing church a few years ago. We are very involved with our pastor. (I miss that too)
Guess you can say I am very curious, pleasantly tenacious and garrulous as some of you already know and if not you did not you sure know know now by the length of my post. ;-)
Someday I will post a picture of my family when I learn how to work the computer and all it's confusing parts.
Have a bloomin' good year everyone!
Now I've said a mouthful
BYE
Hi Mary - Welcome to DG. this place can keep you busy!
I am Kathleen, 49 for a little while longer. My DH and I have a dairy farm that he runs pretty much by himself now as I have been forced to slow down due to RA and fibro.
We have 2 grown daughters. The eldest has just taken a position as a long term substitute 4th grade teacher and so I get to spend lots of time with her 4 year old daughter and her 7 year old son gets on and off the school bus here, although he doesn't think that he ever gets to stay long enough!
Our younger daughter is a Physician's Assistant in Kentucky and settled in with a really lovely man.
We have 55 milkers - Holsteins - and 45 head of replacements growing fast.
We also raise and breed pure bred Border Collies, although we are currently out of the puppy business as our older dogs have passed on to greener pastures and the youngsters are still not quite ready to take over. No cats - the dogs think they are just very large, intelligent rats and treat them accordingly.
I have very brown eyes, used to have very brown hair, but it is nicely frosted in a most natural way. I was blonde for a while until I had a nasty reaction.
My gardens are a book waiting to be written! Lots of old roses and anything else that takes my fancy. Used to do an acre plus of veggies, but that has shrunk over the years to more of a postage stamp size.
Hi Everybody!!! I am*Oh my God, wanted to say 29 but oh well, turned the big 30 on August 5, 2001. I have been married to the same wonderful, patient man since April 29, 2000. He is 33 and a Construction Superintendant for a large Commercial Construction Company in Atlanta, Ga. Neither of us have ever been married. However, we have been together for 7 years. We spent an Exotic*Fantastic, and Romantic Honeymoon in Our 'lil Heaven on Earth'-Ocho Rios, Jamacia. I had a traditional Spanish Wedding, which I am so proud of. 110 people attended. We had a sit down dinner, which my mom-in-law prepared. Great Mexican Food!!! We had a Marrachi Band who seranaded everyone during dinner in our Wedding tent with the big Arched windows in it. We also had a parkay Dance Floor where I got the pleasure of seeing all of both our families and especially all the kids and even the babies, Dance and have a Super Time!! Started at 4pm and didn't end til midnight!! After all the expenses of the wedding we were flat broke. We did a Money Dance where all the family members and guests pinned $$$'s on us and we wound up w/$680.00 to spend on our Honeymoon. TG it was an all inclusive trip so all food, drinks and everything was paid for already. All the kids came up to me and said I want a wedding like this one, and are all saying they want to marry a Spanish Guy, to have such a fun wedding! It really was the highlight of my life!!! At this point in my life my marriage and wedding is what I am most thankful for along with my family. He has made my life complete. We are trying to have a baby, and it hasn't happened yet. I am praying that God will grant us a little one in the near future. Right now, we have 2 neices that are my youngest sister's children. I have kinda been a grandma since I was 19. With our mom not being here, I stepped in and have helped my sister with them so she could get a degree and become an exceptional Teacher. I am so proud of her and she is also my best friend. Her children are the joy's of our lives. They have the same relationship w/me and my Hubby as they do with their G'parents on my Bro-in-law's side.
I started gardening whenever I was still at home, after my Mom passed away. I was 17 and I tried and tried to liven things up for my Father, who had taken eveything very rough, and it helped a little. My husband and I have our own home now and From Day one the yard has been my priority. I lived next door to Mollybee when I still lived at home and even though I haved moved on, she is still my best friend! It was very hard to move, but I had to get on with my life with my great hubby! Her boys are also my best buddy's and they are Great kids! I miss them all so much! She is the one who introduced me to this wonderful place, Dave's Garden! It is my favorite place on the net. I rarely ever go anywhere else unless it doesn't have anything to do w/Gardening.
My favorite plants are Hydrangea's, Rhodedendron's,Hosta's and all types of lily's and now BRUGS!!!!
I have 3 dogs. A beagle mix named Cassie, a Siberian Husky named Lucy, and I now Have my Grandma's dog HOBO, who is a bit grouchy and very old! I also have a 55 gallon aquarium which I am proud of. I have Sharks, Firemouth Ciclids, Clown Loaches, A huge Black Shark, and A few others in there! I am wanting my carpenter hubby to recess it it the wall and move the 55 gallon in our bedroom and have a built in salt-water in the living room. This Spring I plan to start an outside Koi pond with a waterfall. Been checking on it already! Just gotta get hubby excited too! So, I'm sure I'll have tons of ?'s for all of you pond folks this spring! Well, I am also a talker if you can't tell from this loooonngggg post, but this is just me! I have enjoyed reading all of these post's and all of you are such great people and I love this place. Gardening has always been my therapy and I can't wait til Spring!!!! It should be right around the corner!!! I can't WAIT!!
Thanks for Listening!

I don't remember wood stoves etc, our schooling system has long been past one room schools except in really rural areas. I went to a middle school which was over 100 years old and there were many rooms there. I did however walk to school the whole way through. My senior school was only about 1.5 miles away so most of us walked or rode bicycles.
hey Baa what are you doing up this time of night?
I throught I was the only one who couldn't sleep,
than my husband come in and said I wake him up getting same ice,
than I seen you on here,
Mary

Can't do much of anything that doesn't pertain to gardening. Visit the local garden store weekely - even in the winter. Teach school now (31st yr), but will retire next year. Would have been this year, but husband lost his job and none on the horizen yet. I think he likes staying home!! Anyhow, when I retire I plan on working at the local greenhouse to snitch some of their secrets! I've been a quiet lurker for a year.
Hi Sue
I have 10 years over you, but you didn't say how old you were, so maybe that why I have been married longing,
I meet him when he was in the army in Okla,
we went together about 3 weeks and got married,
like a dummy I come up to Mi with him, been here ever since,
now he would have stay in Okla, and got a job down there,
but I was young and didn't know any better,
I got so home sick, but now I wouldn't go back (to hot)and my kids are here,
do we call this a thread or can we call it a post?????
you can learn a lot from being a quiet lurker, but than no one will get to know you, so I want to thank you for coming on here,
Mary
