What's your religion?

evert, your subject "What's your religion" intrigued me, and I was also "curious" to see the replies to your post. If you had left your own answer at Evangelic Lutheran fine, it is your "Although" I have a problem with... It would be difficult for me and perhaps some others to respond to your question with just the short, sweet answer elena and notmartha provided (which might well have been the best way to go). We have previously discussed the difference between a "Christian Forum" and Dave's Mission Statement about how he plans to run this Forum ...

evert, you ask me "So, Pardancanda, if I don't want to believe in the bigger something up there - I have said something very bad?"

Your question is phrased in an interesting way, "if I don't WANT to believe"... Does that imply that you do believe, but do not wish to believe?

Have you said something "very bad"? Well, you know religion is a sensitive subject, and that there has been some contention here before when the subject is raised.

Or, by your post, are you hoping that someone's answer may give you something to believe in?

Mark, that was a great answer! I really agree with you :) Why does god let so many people die..?

And John.. I don't believe and don't want to. I think I have said something very bad as many people often get so mad to me. I just hope that things calm down and people would not shout on me stright away. Of course there are lots of nice people also, and it is just ok to me if they believe in something - but - I don't. Really, when I have been in church I felt myself really embarrassed there listening the 'silly' things what the priest told there. Blah :P

evert, did you really not expect anyone to take exception to your comments and defend his own beliefs?

Your last remark: "Really, when I have been in church I felt myself really embarrassed there listening the 'silly' things what the priest told there. Blah :P " is disrespectful, contentious, and marks the end of my efforts to treat your questions seriously.

John

I have to agree with John here that when Evert calls the message from any particular religion 'silly', that is definitely in violation of paragraph 6 of the Acceptable Use Policy at Dave's Garden.

We have the Acceptable Use Policy to keep the forum clean and friendly. Let's follow the rules and keep it clean, or I'll have to just remove this thread and stop any discussion about this matter for a while. I'd prefer to let it run its course, but my first objective is to maintain a safe discussion forum. Thanks for your cooperation.

OMG I didnt even know we have a codes of conduct page.

why not believe that on that occasion Evert's priest said something that seemed silly.

I think the whole thread and post should now be removed by Dave and placed in a new forum if at all possible.

Pardancanda, I'm not a Christian nor am I religous so maybe I dont belong here.

Mark

Well, history repeats itself again. Any religious discussion, no matter how friendly or harmless it appears at first, quickly deteriorates into what we have here. Friends become foes, and feelings get hurt.

Perhaps I should put a censorship hat on and just ban all religious discussions? Or, maybe I should require that, if you wish to continue these discussions, you do it in private E-mail?

Either way, this discussion is over.

(P.S. Mark - yes, we do have a "code of conduct". I put in place 6 months ago, and I refer to it each time I have to ban someone from DG. This has only happened once since we moved to subscriptions.)

Since this thread isn't going to rest after all I'm going to throw my 2 cents in.
Evert asked what religion we were and asked what the idea in all religions were. He was curious and he's from a different country, where religions and religious beliefs practiced there are unknown to me and possibly most of us here. Did anyone care to ask what churches are there? Let's also remember he is a young teenager, so I see no reason for such an attack on a curious youth. I applaud those who expressed their personal opinions in such an informative and positive way, as well in an adult manner, no matter what their beliefs are. I am a Christian and whenever the day comes that I will not accept a person to my heart because of different beliefs than mine, is the day I will believe everything I was taught and to believe in was wrong.
