Can't View Most Image Posts

Dayton, OH(Zone 5a)

Dave,

I can't seem to view most of the image posts in the forums. Is it me or something to do with my configuration? Please help!

Appreciation in advance!

I've seen several people today mention the same thing. are you running Norton? they all were and disabled it when here.

Morph,

Your web browser is not sending "referers" to the sites that you visit. tiG is probably right that you're using some kind of software package that removed these referers.

DG requires those referers to be enabled in order to see any jpg images on this site. You'll need to find a way to enable them in your software to see the pictures.

I'm not even sure why norton and others disable referers. There is no good reason to disable them. I'm at a loss.

Thanks... I will try this.

Yep, you're right. We do have a firewall. So, to see an image and not disable the referers permanently, I have to temporarily turn off the firewall, view the image, then enable the firewall again. Not a big deal at all. But, DH wants to keep the firewall up since there are so many intrusions floating around the cyber world. We just had to wipe everything clean and reinstall our e-lives since we had been invaded!

Thanks, Dave & tiG, for identifying the cause!

It's too bad your firewall is not configurable so as to allow referers to go through. There is absolutely no harm in referers, and I cannot understand why your firewall manufacturer is blocking them.

I have an excellent firewall for our home network here (running Linux of course) and it doesn't mess with cookies, referers, or anything... Oh well. I hate that you have such an inconvenience to view images. :(

Thanks, Dave. Will research further to understand to what extent we can deactivate these without opening unwanted viewing or "tagging along" type activity. My preference is to enable referers as I know they can be very valuable to those tracking & logging information about generic traffic activity. Of course, DH & I have to be clear about the ramifications & agree on the parameters we agree to share with cyber space... Thanks much for the help!
