DG roundup next year too?

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

I've been reading the threads and all that you have planned for this year. I would so love to join you all. There's no way I can go this year, but is this maybe going to happen again next year? If I started saving now, I might be able to make it next year. I am so far away, but it really sounds like fun. If you all think this might happen again next year, I'll start saving my change in a jar! LOL! No, not LOL, I'm serious! I really would love to meet all you wonderful people.

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

Joan, just save, and if no one else starts it, you can be the one. RR doesn't have a copyright. But I hope it will be just one, as I don't have a laptop and would hate to be missing all the good posts while I ran around to round-ups. We should aim for one that would get you snowbirds into the sunny south when we have spring and you still have ice and snow. I'm bent out of shape about Jo in Florida and I can't make it to lunch!

"down the Shore", NJ(Zone 7a)

JoanJ, great plan! The roundup in TN sounds like lots of fun, but I won't be able to attend. It would be great if the next one could be somewhere easy to get to by plane. My vote would be for Florida, as I am thinking how nice it would be to get out of the cold and have that lunch! It would be really special to have it at Disney... we could plan to have the behind-the-scenes garden tours if they still do that. Just an idea.... John

I'd say Ohio, North Dakota, Texas, or Florida would be good. We have lots of members in Ohio, Texas, and Florida. I say North Dakora because of the Peace Gardens on the US/Canada border and I'm sure there are other things. It all depends on who suggests it and gets it started. This year Jo/Roadrunner was the one who had the brainstorm and took the step to get the ball rolling. I'm so glad she did!

P. S. Wisconsin would be good, too - they have the largest Farmer's Market in the country there and tons of other things. http://davesgarden.com/showthread/52718.html

Pardancanda, I noticed you spoke of behind the scenes garden tours. That would be great. My sister is always going to Disney even last summer. She may know. I will find out.

Powell, TN

Aimee, I looked at the small dogwoods that I dug up and put in pots. They didn't make it. I will collect seed next summer when they make seeds and send you a whole lot so if some do not make it I am sure some will. Let me hear from you. I am going to try to make it to Roundup if nothing unexpected happens. Would love to meet you. You seem to know so much about flowers. Beebalm

Hey...Round-up next year!! I'm fer it!! Maybe at the one in TN we should have a vote to see where the next one will be?? Like the Olympics...see which local can offer us the best deal...Anyone wishing it to be in their state, scout around and find a good place and present it before the June Round Up..so we'll know where we want to go next year!!Whatcha think??? Jo

Elizabethton (Stoney, TN(Zone 6b)

I like it!

Maben, MS(Zone 7b)

I like it also.

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

That would leave a whole lot of members who can't make it this year out of the voting.......I think the vote should be conducted in our voting forum!

Crossville, TN

Yeah, eyes....good thinking...but we'd still need a thread to "extol the virtues" of holding it at a certain place...then we could read about it...then hold the vote. Jo

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

Beebalm, thanks for the vote of confidence, but you would be surprised at what I don't know that is common. I just have the guts of a burglar when it comes to trying things with plants, and if you do that often enough and get this old, a few things stick. I forget so much as far as terminology, it means I have to keep cramming in stuff to keep compensating. As for the dogwoods, we will play it by ear, and it's nice to anticipate. I'm really not surprised they didn't transplant well, but was sure hoping. Thanks for trying, and for thinking ahead. I just have to make it to Tennessee to meet all of you!!!!!

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

That's very true, Jo....this way each region can extol all the wonders that abound around them......Florida would be nice with disney world....but most members are more central than coastal......there is beauty all around us, and I'm sure we can come up with something.....I would say Tyler, TX. because of all the beautiful roses....but then, Oklahoma with all it's beautiful state parks, and the Talimena Scenic byway really stands out!

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

Obviously, I vote for Tyler. Nice trip, not too far, and I can hop over to La. if I try.

Crossville, TN

Well...since there are only two of us (to my knowledge) in Arizona (DD-weedwalker and myself), and LOTS to see...like Grand Canyon, Lots of Gardens, Old Tucson, Tombsone,Caverns, and my favorite of all...The Senora Dessert Museum...then it could be here....but I do realize it would be so far for the majority to travel that I'm not counting on it...LOL Jo

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

,,,know AZ...lived there 2 yrs......2 sisters still live there in the Phoenix area...

no matter what there is to see anywhere, if it's only going to be for a weekend, you won't have much time to see anything. If you have it where there is not a group able to drive, you won't have many people. I'm sure there is somewhere we could have it that is central to a large group of DGers and make it as affordable as possible. One answer for those that can't make it to the June roundup is to plan area roundups as much as possible. No where is going to be perfect for the majority of us.

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Well, then that would difinitely be Texas!!

tiG, I think you have a great idea there with "area roundups"! John

Love Field.....:o)

Elizabethton (Stoney, TN(Zone 6b)

Isn't Love Field in Dallas? How far are you from Dallas? I would love to come next year if you're close to Big D.

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Yep...Love Field is in Dallas...I'm 89 miles NE of Dallas, Granny Lois, in the southern part of the Red River Valley!

"eyes"

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

...as far as that goes...we could have it in Dallas in Old City Park...and visit the Dallas Aboretum, too!

"eyes"

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

......and if we do it up here...we can do the Gainsville Outlet Mall, Indian Reservations, and Bingo...for those inclined......we have a nice Motel in Whitesboro and a B&B back in the country area off Hwy 377....

sounds good eyes

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

shouldn't we wait until next year is a little closer to lock it in?

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Thorough discussion and planning will make it much easier for more members to be able to check their resources and make their own personal plans, I think.

"eyes"

Crossville, TN

Tig....guess you're right...gota little carried away...it was all that mentionof FOOD! LOL Jo

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

I agree eyes, but it's way over a year away, and that's a longgggg time:)

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Yep, plenty of time to find the pit falls. I realize we can't set anything in "stone", but it would help to have "scouts" checking into everything, and finding the very best possible "bang" for the buck. I want to tell ya, a lot of the cabins, and resorts that I called for this summer's trip, were completely booked for the summer! There I was having to change my route, and some of the things the kids really wanted to do. A year's preparation is just barely enough. MHO.

I sure do like the idea of coming to Texas in 2003. We lived there from '78 to '83 and I've been back a few times, but not often enough. The only complaint I have is the heat in the summer time... but you gotta take the bad with the good.

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

That's true GL, maybe early June 2003 would be the best.
