Let's all go to Callaway

My wife was reading throught the phone book. I must really be a bore.LOL She was looking for some place to purchase a large amount of mulch and happened to notice our book had a section dedicated to community activities. On Feb. 21 they are having Founder Day Celebration and free admission to Callaway Gardens. Callaway is located about 20 miles south of Lagrange. Also organ concert at the the Ida Cason Chapel. The admission the last time I went was $12.00. Their number is 800-225-5292. The Victory Garden on HGTV is filmed there some times. They have an enormous amount of flowers and also vegatables plants and picnic areas. Also many lakes and also a beach with swimming so all of you bring your swim suits. Oh it's not heated but maybe we will have an early summer. Here's a link to Callaway if any one thinks they might want to attend. http://www.callawaygardens.com/
They also have a butterfly center that you can visit through the website and it is really something in person. The plants that are shown outside the butterfly center is what you will find throughout the Gardens.

Will you please stop telling me about all these wonderful places - you know I can't come!!!!.......lolol!!

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

Lousia you can visit the website. I have a photo of my grandson with a butterfly on his nose that was taken there. I haven't bben able to locate it. Maybe I'll run across it and be abble to post. The butterfly center was named after Cecil B. Day the founder of Days Inn. He wife donated money for the butterfly center in his memory.

It all sounds so wonderful. Butterflys, plants and Jim!!

Gulfport, MS

Callaway is everything Redclay says and even more at Christmas. The lights throughout the gardens are unbelievable. It almost surpasses natures spring showing, which takes my breath away. I didn't know about the free day, but I'll try to get there. That's our 50th wedding anniversary, and I can't think of anything I'd rather do, and free no less.

Well, there is no end to the things you can learn from a Southern boy! I had no idea Day's Inn was named after a person. I had always thought it was a play on the words, Day's End. Or a foreigner who learned the language phonetically and mispelled it. But I did know Church's Fried Chicken was non-denominational.

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

Aimee ain't we glad about the chicken. We have two in our town. A new one opened not long ago close to my house and I love that chicken and bisquits.

Catlover I hope to be there. If you do make it holler at me and maybe I can meet you. Congratulations on the 50th. My wife and I will hit 40 in Nov. and I think I'm taking me to the June swap in Tn. as an early present for my wife.LOL

Lousia, you say the sweetest things. Are you sure we aren't cousins.

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

lol Aimee - foreigners misspelling!!!!! I'm keeping my mouth shut for fear of intimidating myself...lol!! Jim, we could be related I suppose - have you any Irish ancestors? Sorry - that's been done before on another thread :-)

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

Why yes cousin.

No Collins. Sir Francis Bryan

Callaway is indeed a beautiful place. We had our ladies retreat (church group) there last year. A little "peace of Heaven" - yes, I meant to spell it that way. :)

I may have to see if I can make it for that. It's about 2+ hours from here.

Thanks for the info.
