NEW KITCHEN CURTAINS

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

I planted 3 scarlet runner beans on Sunday and set the pots in the kitchen window to get some sun. This morning they are about an inch high. I think I'll take the curtains down and drive a few nails in the window sill and make curtains out of the plants as they mature. I haven't run this by Bobbie as yet. Should I surprise her?

That depends. Does she like surprises and would the scarlet beans clash with the kitchen color scheme? You do that GRC and you just may have to remodel the whole kitchen to go with the beans.LOL.
I would tell my DH,"don't even think about it". but then a planter he isn't so don't have to worry about that. Now me,that he has to worry about. He never knows what I'm about apt to do.

Jim, it depends what kind of surprise you are willing to accept in return. If she likes the idea you will get a big hug and a smile. If not, you may just end up in a sleeping bag on the fishing bank way before the round-up. LOL

Oh Carol was I the one that was going to bring the fish? Really looking forward to it. The round up not the fishing bank. lol

JIm, Last year I had some on my kitchen window sill, and they grew like you wouldnt believe, all I saw was foliage. One day I decided to take the curtains down, and I was so surprised to see that a runner had nestled itself behind the curtain and had flowers on it. It was delightful.

That's what I'm doing with my passionflower babies. They are way too big to be called seedlings anymore. I took down the curtains, put a string over the rod and the plants are growing up them. I figure that's the easiest way to move them when they can go outside on a trellis.

...sides, Jim...ya always have the benefit of not having to go outside to pick the beans......they're edible ya know!!

A string over the rod??????? Ideas running wild in my head. Dining room has real big window about 8 ft across. Lets see the morning glory and moonflower for sure and maybe a maypop when I get one and a blue sky. And then the big glass sliding door on the patio. One side doesn't slide so that can be permanent on that side The other side Bobbie will just have to learn how to get through the jungle.
Hey eyes if I can get enough of the edible ones I can save on food and then I can buy more plants for the window. I see a vicious cycle starting here.
CoCo I think I'll just get grow lights for the kitchen and let it have its run of it. The bean that ate Bobbie's kitchen. I can forget about the color scheme the vine will be the color scheme.
Pebble that is so amazing that you found the blooms behind the curtains. I guess I'm not the only one that plays the wondow sill game.

I like the string idea Tig, think I might just try that...

I got it from a greehouse site, they make 'strings' to grow vines up in the GH, so I figured I'd do the poor womans version.

...lot's better than trying to separate them without destroying them!

I think this belongs on the Dirt Cheap Forum, because it's the best and cheapest new curtains I ever heard of. Reminds me of my grandma saving string from the feed sacks and running her cypress vine and morning glories up on the porch with them.
