It takes a discerning palate to appreciate a really good tea as many of our American friends will attest to :-). Remember now, we don't grow the tea just drink it!! Kikisdad are you talking about iced tea?? That's another story!!

Mount Prospect, IL(Zone 5a)

How could anyone prefer coffee to tea? Tea is much better for you to begin with! Coffee is what tastes like medicine. They say strong black coffee puts hair on your chest, and who wants that!

My brothers do DJM.

Our parents didn't pass on any hairy chest genes and I spent my teenage years having to listen to 2 of my brothers competing about the number (yes number, sometimes as many as 7 at one time) of visable chest hairs they had and then proving it.

Antrim, Northern Ire, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

Earl Grey and Lady Grey tea.

Mars bars but not the US version. how can you call a different bar a Mars Bar?

Pork Pies ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

chips with S&V ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

Cadburys choc is also made in Canada and our local stores carry it!! But I did taste the difference between this and the 'real' thing!! Zeb at the rate this thread is going your friends would have gone on holiday, returned home and you would have eaten all your goodies......lol!! It's going to be interesting to see what they do bring back for you!!

Wigan, Landcashire, United Kingdom

Talking about Marmite, yesterday was the 100th anniversery of it, in WW1 and 11 Marmite were provided for the troops as it contains a lot of essential vitamins, myself i hate the suff, anybody like a OXO drink, an oxo cube melted in boiling water?

Theres only one drink and thats tea.

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

Yes, love oxo drink. Like marmite too!!

Louisa

I could be cheeky and say, there's no accounting for taste. Oh look, I did say it, hehehehehe ;) Only kidding, used to get a bovril or oxo drink when I was littler, never really like it much, not keen on marmite either but will eat it occasionaly.

Zeb

When will you see your neighbours? I hope we haven't put you off British food on this thread :)

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

It's OK Baa - I can take it really I can!!!! :-) Actually I think the sales of oxo went down as well as beef when the 'trouble' hit the UK!! In fact, on my recent trip to England, I noticed very little beef on sale in Tesco I believe it was!!

Washington, DC(Zone 7a)

Finally got my goodies last night. They didn't have a lot of room left in their luggage, but they brought me: shortbread -- already gone; Swiss chocolate (from England?) -- mostly gone (I was hungry); and lemon curd -- haven't opened it yet, but it will surely be gone very soon, too.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. Wish I could have asked for everything suggested though. It all sounded so yummy, except perhaps the marmite. :)

(and the Twiglets) ;)

Zeb I'm glad you got some nice goodies. Lemon curd, Swiss choc and shortbread were a great choice!

We trade a lot world over, being a small island we need to keep a lot of friendly countries very friendly. The diversity of things you can buy here is truely amazing considering our county's tiny size.

Louisa

Which time are you talking about? Last time the manure hit the air conditioning over beef, sales actually went up because the price was low and beef was selling out as quickly as it arrived in the stores for several weeks. Market's more stable now but there is much less on the shelves because of the cattle over 30 month ban.

When I lived with my Grandmother in Southampton, she used to
buy lemonade, but it was not the like our lemonade, it was
carbonated in a two-liter bottle. I never found anything here like it. Does anyone know the name, or anything similar
that's available in the U.S.??
Thanks,
Becky

Becky I live only 4 miles from Southampton!

I'm not sure we make lemonade with lemons here LOL.

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

Only if you make it yourself LOL!! The best lemonade i ever had was sitting on a verandah overlooking the lemon grove the lemons came from in Greece. But that wasn't fizzy - can't stand fizzy! Oooh can taste it now (well nearly)

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

How about haggis? LOL ;)

Washington, DC(Zone 7a)

Hey Evert, who you calling a haggis? :)

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

What do you mean?

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

Haggis can be yummy Evert, but you don't get a lot of it in the Cotswolds - Scottish food! Mind you, as Zeb points out, Swiss chocolate is hardly from the Cotswolds either!!
Lemon curd, like the lemonade, is best homemade, but there's some very good ones around from specialist makers.
looking at the other suggestions (and not getting into the marmite/twiglets thing - either you like them or you don't)
go with clotted cream and thick cut bitter marmalade. Fish & chips straight out of the paper yeeeesss, but not likely to travel well to the States LOL
I drink Earl Grey tea all the time (don't like tea with milk, so EG more interesting) - what's Lady Grey flavoured with?? might have to give it a try.
Shortbread - yummmmmmm
Is the lemon curd gone yet Zeb? Heaven........

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

=)

Lady Grey is flavoured with somekind of citrus I think. Itäs very good.

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

Yes probably - EG is flavoured with bergamot (citrus, not the herb) Will look for LG
BTW you have mail Evert, if you haven't found it already:)

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

Mail - me? BTW, what herb did you mean :) ?

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

mail (re borage) anise and coins - only thanks in advance:)
Bergamot, apart from being a citrus, is used here for the hardy perennial herb Monarda (labiateae). It makes very good herb tea in its own right, and is also good in cooking.

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

Oh that mail... got it long time ago. My email is active all the time when I am in internet, and it checks the new mails every minute. Is Monarda called bergamot there? Odd...

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

It's an odd language! we have a lot of strange ways and like to be different (and difficult LOL)...:o)

Perrysburg, OH(Zone 5a)

Thanks Sis!!!
I'm going to trythis tomorrow!!--I love tonic by itself, I
can't wait!!!

Baa,
My mother's family is from Bournemouth, they lived on
St.Albans ave. My grandmother now lives in Hythe.
Another favorite I can't find here is Smarties--sort of like
m&m's but I think the shell had a bit of an orange flavor,
I think they were called Smarties.
