Cloning

Vicksburg, MS(Zone 8a)

Dave, it sure would be nice to be able to clone an item in the plants database and then immediately be put into editing it so that we could make minor changes to describe a slightly different plant. This would make it a whole lot faster to enter in, say, a lot of different viburnums, or roses, or daylilies, etc.

And while I'm at it, it would also be nice to put in the database a place where the species/hybrids/cultivars could be obtained over the internet. It's great to read about the different species/hybrids/cultivars, but if you decide you can't live without one, you're generally out of luck finding one at most local nurseries (at least in a city the size of Vicksburg).

Good stuff, Copperbaron. Vols and I are hard at work planning the next stage of the PDB, and I believe many of these concerns will be taken care of with the redevelopment.

Regarding cloning... that'll take some considerable thought. The purpose of cloning (usually) is to create a new identical entry (complete with all images). That's extremely useful for the journals, but not so much so with the PDB. The couple seconds it would save by keeping the default values (height, bloom color, etc) would not, in my opinion, justify adding that layer of additional complexity to the pdb.

That's my opinion, however, and I'll defer to what go_vols says. If she says to add cloning, I'll add it.

Best,
Dave
