Happy Birthday Jianhua :o)
Hey everyone....He is having such a good Birthday....you can not believe...This is our tomorrow....So when he gets back from his wonderful filled day, he will be back among us, on our day of his birthday...Strange, I know...But remember he is 13 hours ahead of us....Wish we could have spent the day with him.....Don't you all???????
his bd isn't 26th, right? I was thinking 28th, I have it written down but not handy. It must be the 27th. Hope it was a good day!
i was basing the time difference on Philippine's location, which i would imagine would be the same as China. as i write this now. it would be Sunday Jan. 27, on or about 1 in the afternoon.
i never knew Jianhua's birthdate so i was curious when it is. well, we will find out when our birthday gentle person will be on line with us.
knowing how we celebrate one's birthday in the Orient, i can just imagine the grand time Jianhua is presently having.
Happy Birthday Jianhua! I hope you had or have a great day. I'm not sure if it's Saturday or Sunday, but I hope you have a great time.
Hello,ladies and gentlemen!!

A year,a birthday.and each year's has a different experience for me.and this year's is unusual and unforgetful !
Your best wishes to me are just like a sweet fountain in the desert moistening the oasis.in this new year i am sure the oasis will be full of green grass and red flowers.

Jianhua....what a nice thing to say!!! Hope your special day was/is wonderful. :-))))
He has a way with words, our Jianhua does...
Jianhua, having you here at DG has been an enriching experience for us all.
Happy gardening to you too my friend.
hello again,everyone!
Here on this special occasion,i'd like to say something about chinese traditional birthday culture.
When an elder 's birthday comes, all the members in the family will gather together for a big lunch to celebrate the great day.these two idioms are often heard to best wishes to the elder:zu nin furo donghai, shou bi nanshan(wish your happiness is like the water of the east sea,and may your longevity is like the south mountain.),or:zunin changming baishui(long life to you.).and the dishes must be included in a chinese harp fish, which means jumping over the bad luck, and the food must be included in the noodles, which means longevity.this celebrating form has lasted for centuries and centuries without much change.
however, some elders would rather avoid having their birthdays on purpose..why so?they believe that when you have a birthday the super spirit will draw a mark for you,and when your marks are enough, you will be summoned to hell or heaven according to your evil or good.they want to stay on earth longer,so they simply do not have their birthdays.
And the birthday for a kid is the happineset day of the year, because he will have delicious food to eat and wonderful toys to get.i remembered that my son's four-year-old birthday ,i asked him what he would like to get for his birthday .he told me eagerly that he wanted to have a gun--in fact it was a toy gun which was sold in the kids'toy shop.when i asked why he wanted to have a gun?he told me simply:to shoot at birds.hehehh i knew that he could not shoot off a bird's feather with it,but anyway i bought one for him with 8 yuans(=1 dollar).you cannot imagine how happy he was then.and he told me happily:if i had a birthday every day of the months of the year, how would it be nice.i would have a lot of toys to play with.
When a kid is one year old,the birthday is of great importance.parents will place many things on the table, such as a picture-book,an egg,a coin,a stick,a piece of bread, and let the kid to choose.see, if the kid gets hold of a stick, the parents will be very disappointed.a stick stands for a beggar's cane.and if the kid takes hold of a book, the parents will be very excited.it shows that when the kid grows up, he will be a scholar.and when the kid catches hold of the bread,it shows that the kid is just so and so.interesting, isn't it?
Well, so much.
Very interesting Jianhua ;)! tell us more pls.!!! TIA.. ma vie
A belated happy birthday, Jianhua!
How interesting Jianhua, thanks for sharing a part of your culture with us.
Thanks for letting me have a memorable birthday!
I hope your birhday will be remembered with smiles and good memories. Thank you for sharing the Chinese birthday traditions with us.
That really was interesting and makes for good reading Jianhua!! I lived in Singapore for three years and most of my neighbours were Chinese. Whilst I was there I learned to cook the oriental way and managed to learn some of the language too. Unfortunately the only thing I can remember now is Hong Ki Fat Choy - and that is probably the wrong spelling - wrong time of the year also huh!!! I should have learnt to say Happy Birthday!! Thanks for your email - it was so sweet of you!!
Belated or not, I meanit : HAPPY BIRTHDAY JIANHUA !!!!!!!
cristina
Thanks for sharing with me.shall we meet again right in here next year? :(
