9 year old wants help

Oklahoma City, OK(Zone 7a)

Hi, folks.

I'm going to post a "feeler" thread before posting the actual thread to ensure no one has a problem with this. If I get negative feedback, I won't go any further.

My 9 year old, Bethany, is jumping rope to raise money for her school Alabama Christian Academy. She has never done this before and wants to do a great job. If you all don't mind, I'd like to have her write out her own thread letting you all know of her intentions and goals and ask for donations from anyone who is interested.

Many of you have amazing children and grand-children, so you will understand my next comment. :) Bethany is an extraordinary child. She gives without thought of herself and is always doing things to brighten other people's lives. This past Christmas, she and I handed out 150 or so Christmas cards to nursing home residents. She writes letters to people who have lost loved ones and offers hugs to anyone within a 10 ft radius. :) Obviously, I'm a proud mommy, but more than that, I want you to know that she likes doing things for others. Hence, my interest in helping her with this new goal.

I plan to have her type her message on Sunday, if all goes well.

Bethany, do let us know about your intentions and your goals. Would love to hear about them. It's good for a child to have goals and to aim for those goals.
Will be waiting to hear from you, sweetie.

Wonderful and yes it is a great idea' Looking forward to her posts' Everyone should have goals and share them with others' See ya Sunday Bethany' Sis'

I am looking forward to hearing about this charitable venture as well. Warms my heart to hear about children that truely care about others.

let me know too. I don't have much at all but would love to help her too. My children used to jump rope at school for the American Heart Association. I know it's not much but $1 helps, right? Let me know

So far, so good. Thanks for the input. I told her last night about my idea and she was so excited.

Here's a link to a picture of Bethany with Shelby (go_vols daughter), so you'll have a face to go with the name. Bethany is on the left.

Im really looking forward to Bethany's post! She sounds like such a loving, giving child!

I think it is just wonderful she wants to help out like this. I'm all for children learning to be kind and generous early. You have been great teacher, clearly. You must be really proud of her.

We want to help.We can't do a whole lot but would be happy to pitch in a weeks worth from our "cuss can"...which can add up......!Last week was disgracefully high due to my stressing over neil being ill...:(!!!

:)

PS it's not only for real cuss words but for any negative names etc....just so folks here don't get the idea we have dirty "mouffs"!!!!Haha!

I see absolutely nothing wrong in this. A child who gives so much should know how adults are so proud of here. My 11 yr old is waiting to read it too

sorry i mis read and thought it was your grand daughter...sorry about the wrong data in my previous post refering to her parents....i must be asleep!

Amanda, like most young mothers, you are sleep deprived. Think nothing of it.

You all are so wonderful and supportive. I wasn't sure what the response would be when I first posted this, but you've just been so sweet. I can't wait to tell Bethany. She and a friend are at a church kids rally all day today, so I'll tell her this afternoon.

I AM proud of her. She'd spend her entire allowance on others if I let her (and maybe I should). :) She likes to pay for our meals when we eat out, buy her little sister toys and give her pencils away at school. If only I could help her understand that "money doesn't grow on trees". Sometimes it's hard to draw the line between generosity and selfishness. We are so blessed, though, and I truly believe that God will reward us when we're generous and can't really afford it.

Ok, here's the link to Bethany's request. Thanks so much for your kind words of encouragement. She is so excited.

Georgiaredclay,

By all means, have your grandson take a look at this thread. He's the one I want to "fix up" with Bethany when they are older, right? What are the chances he's coming to the DG roundup?
