Anyone who has problem with Phobia?

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

I has my friend who so scare to death which see live snake or toy snake or magazine or book even on tv, she get very nervous hate snake.
Also saw on tv play "Maury" poor ladies so scare of cotton balls, clown, dog, spider, frog, cock roach, alumin foil many more, that sad to see them so fear.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Oh, that is sad! I am afraid of stinging insects; in particular wasps, hornets, ground bees and yellowjackets frighten me because they will go after you. I ran over a nest of ground bees with the lawnmower when I was a kid; I didn't get stung many times, but I remember being traumatized because my mom went out and was stung many times when she tried to move the mower away from their burrow!

I have figured out that most honeybees and bumblebees are more interested in the flowers around me than anything else, so I am happy to oblige them and enjoy seeing the blooms, too. I really do get freaked out when yellowjackets buzz around my drink or my head, though; they are so doggoned persistant and won't leave me alone.

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

I really hate when roaches fly over me or lizard come to me, I scare but not run away LOL and hate wasp try to sting when I push lawn mower not want feel OUCH sting did that few times before that is hurt and one time Yellow Jacket sting on my forehead oh boy my eyes get so big swollen could not open the eyes terrible and went to the doctor gave me shot. I never forget and now I have to be more careful. I never like snake oh boy my boys love snakes used to be pet not anymore because no time to take care of it, it doesn't bother me but hate to touch snake feel funny.

There are things I'm not keen on happening to me but my real irrational fear is sparks. Anything which produces sparks like fireworks, welding gear, angle grinders, you name it, I don't like it one bit.

I'm much better than I was, I can now walk past people who are welding and the like with just a raise of my heartbeat, fireworks are fine if I'm indoors. You will not find Baa at a firework display unless there is a building I can stay in. Stupid fear and no reason for me to be frightened but these things are never rational.

Good thread, Redrose! I saw that show yesterday while cleaning the house. I felt sorry for those ladies ~ that was disgusting how they chased those women around with the object of their fears while the audience laughed at them.

My irrational fear is of flying. Didn't know I had it until a bunch of local private plane owners generously gave the volunteers in the fire dept. rides. I was a member then and thought nothing of doing all sorts of things including fighting fires and demolition derby driving, so didn't think I'd have a problem with an airplane ride! Wrong! LOL! THe rather timid woman who asked to go up with me so she could lean on me for support ended up supporting me! ROTFLMAO! I got off that plane so white (with a nice green tinge, DH said), that Kenny wanted to take me to the hospital! For days after that, every time I closed my eyes, I felt the plane turning. ugh! Didn't even have to close my eyes if a plane was in the air ~ just looking at it would do the same. To compound it all, we worked a plane crash a couple weeks later and it was a bad one. I helped put out the fire and find the occupants. Nope, not getting this fat butt off the ground anymore!

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

My phobia is losing the bottom beneath me when im in the
gulf. i can wade all day, as long as i can touch bottom. the instant i realize that the bottom is no longer there, i panic (not a good thing to do when swimming).
maybe i watched jaws too many times, but i always invison my demise as being eaten alive by a shark.
swimming in a pool i have no problems with. i LOVE the beach, as long as i feel im in control.

Msjen, I can sympathise with that fear!! I'm also very claustrophobic. I think both these fears are from almost drowning when I was a child.

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

I hated going through the under-sea tunnel from Newport News to Norfolk VA. Had visions of the whole thing collapsing. But the more I used it, the better I became. I guess I just needed to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I am also allergic to bee stings!!

Flying....totally terrified to fly,mice....can't stand a mouse, especially in the house, flying, elevators;especially those with glass where you can see out that go on the outside of buildings;flying, bridges that go across alot of water. My DH one time was about to cross a bridge that went over water and I had the car door open running to bale out. I was not about to go over that bridge. Also don't like the high over-passes; just don't like heights period. Lets see,did I mention flying? Also don't like to be in enclosed spaces or big crowds;end up having panic attacks at all the above. That's just to name a few.

Hempstead, TX(Zone 8b)

i don't fly. i can't be in closed spaces. crowds make me nervious. and i'm am very scared of being eaten by JAWS lol. if i swim at night(in a pool) it better have good lighting or jaws will get me. i used to work in the gulf as a clam farmer. i did not go in the water over my head. had to be waist deep or less. thank god a had a good and understanding boss who i allowed to make all the fun he wanted as long as i didn't have to get in.

Temple, GA(Zone 7b)

Well, I am scared of your typical , well ANY KIND OF STUPID SPIDER, But I leave the one's in my garden alone. I have WRITING SPIDERS all the time in my purple coneflowers and they live under the blooms so I know they are ok. Then those crab looking spiders and all the Grand-Daddy Long Legs don't scare me at all. I still pick one of those up every now and then and chase ny neices. So if I have a phobia it isn't spiders. Maybe cockroaches. At my old job where I worked for 11 years, We or should I say he (the owner) had these Giant Cockroaches that could Fly. These suckers would come out of the old basement area that we had closed off and have everyone running into things and into each other over a stupid bug. I would just stand there calm and cool until the flying monster came at me or my secretary and she and I would run in my office and shut the door until some brave soul squashed it. Would have us all laughing and took 30 minutes to get back to work from thinking of all the hillarious things they were doing to get away from it or to try and kill it and always miss. DDid I mention that they hissed too, didn't like those ugly things at aaaaaaaalllllllll!!!!!!!!

Fountain, FL(Zone 8a)

heights, spiders and needles....can't even watch someone getting a shot on tv. At the vets I close my eyes and turn away..he has to tell me when he's done. LOL and I've got 2 going on Wed. for shots. Hopefully Payne won't try to eat the vet..he's not real fond of men and Bear is due his first puppy shots. Please, someone pass the valium.

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

Pebble - seems we have a lot in common!! When travelling from Germany to Switzerland we went through a tunnel that went on for miles and miles and I started to feel the panic but I managed to hold on!! Was I glad to see that light again!! I don't have any phobias about critters at all, except I would go crazy if I was bitten or stung!! As for pets and their visits to the vet. I loathe it!! My poor cats hate the place and I end up a nervous wreck. So ginger I know where you are coming from. I think I may be paying a visit there too - another one of my babies is sick I think!! I was hoping the symptoms would go away!! Cannot handle them being sick - breaks my heart!!

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

I still hate shots, but I used to be *really* freaked about needles. Having emergency surgery in 1992 and, because the self-medication pumps were all in use, subsequently begging for pain shots to my hip cured me of the initial fear of them. I still prefer to lie down when I have bloodwork done because I get woozy.

I also used to be *terrified* of dentists. It was so bad in gradeschool, I had to leave the classroom when they'd have filmstrips about oral hygiene - I'd had a dentist slap me when I was really scared and it really stuck with me! I never went back to a dentist until I had a toothache so bad it sent me through the ceiling. The denists "catered to cowards" and was a sweetheart -- And one root canal and a few fillings later, I felt much more comfortable around dentists!
