I'm again in a magazine

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

Today I got 5 magazines - they're Finnish Herpetology Society (http://www.herpetomania.fi ) magazines - Herpetomania. There is my article of stick insects. There was earlier a article about me in local newspaper, Länsiväylä (http://www.lansivayla.fi ) :) Cool, I am getting famous. Heheheh.

Although, I have gotten little 'negative feedback' from older students. They said 'Ooksä se joka kasvatat niitä homokasveja'. Pheww, you don't want to know what it meant.....

evert, you don't listen to them. Jealousy is an ugly thing. Just keep doing what you are doing, and you will go far in this world. I admire and respect you, you've already come a long way in just a short time.

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

Evert,
I hope that either you

They will be so much fun
for you (and your family) to look back on later.
Congratulations on being published.
That's so nice!

Thanks =)

I have the Länsivälyä- article in finnish at http://www.kolumbus.fi/evert.nylund/artikkeli.htm ... I will put the english version online soon. I am not so sure about the stick insetc one.. It might be hard to scan, the länsiväylä one was at their web page and I got the text directly from there.

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Congradulations! I think this is just great, you have learned and done so much in your short lifetime. Don't worry about what those say who have accomplished nothing. I will be looking for the English version.

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

English version can be now found at http://www.kolumbus.fi/evert.nylund/artikkeli_en.htm

:) Thanks to Viktoria Serafin for translation.

Congrats, Evert! Yes, the human teenager can be absolutely mean and even cruel at times. DON'T listen to them. In high school, I was picked on unmercilessly. Nowadays, some of the same ones that picked on me have apologized, saying what they did was uncalled for. They also said they don't know why they ever did that except they were only trying to fit in and impress their friends ~ that it really wasn't anything wrong with me, that it was THEIR insecurities that made it happen. I'll bet the farm that that's exactly what's happening in your case as well. Keep your chin up!

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

Evert, good job...what a great moment for you.

Well Done Evert :)

Evert, I must say that I have NEVER in all my life seen so many long words in one place ! (The Finnish version.) Thanks for posting - wish I could have seen the English version, but couldn't.

Long words? ..we have some words called yhdyssanat. They are like 2 words together. For example raitiovaunu - a tram. Raitio means the rail, and vaunu means wagon.. And if you have a word Butterfly Orchid, for us it is Perhosorkidea. (means same).

Why couldn't you get to the site? It should work.. I wonder why can't I see the photo.. Anyway, go there through the Finnish version, so you'll see the horrible photo of me and 'long words' of Finnish language ;) hehehe

Franktown, CO(Zone 5a)

Congrats Evert!

I hate the guys who criticize
And minimize the enterprise
Of other guys whose enterprise
Has made them rise above the guys
who criticize.

Spicewood, TX(Zone 8b)

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Good for you Evert!
Nice article..I couldn't see the pic but could read the words in English just fine.
Did your interest in plants start when you were seven..who gave you that first plant..and why? Had you expressed an interest then. Or was it just like when I gave my seven year old grandaughter a tomato seed to plant and she tells me when ever I visit to.. "come see."

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

OK, now the photo sould be shown on the page.. I had the source address wrong.

Hmm.. my grandma gave me and my brother eveyr birthday and sometimes namedays also a Sainpautlia (African violet).. Then one birthday my mum and dad gave me the Brunfelsia, and that where it started I think. I got some money for my birthday and bouhgt and Aechmea fasciata from a flower shop, anfter it I bought more... Muscari, Guzmania, Beaucarnea..

:)

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Thanks Evert..That is interesting..your parents and grandparents must be so very proud of you...and pleased that they were the ones who inspired you.

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

Evert, I wish you would discuss nameday. I have a friend from Hungary who said birthdays aren't as important there as namedays. But most people here seem to know little of the custom.

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

Here birthdays are important than namedays.. Don't know about how they celebrate things in Magyarorszag.

Powell, TN

Great work Evert, keep it up everyone is proud of you.

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

Good grief, is that a Hungarian place?

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

:) I hope the orchid grows well for you. My just started to bloom but just before it dropped all the buds :( But I have now Ludisia orchid blooming.

You should see all the native Finnish orchids, they're very pretty as they cannot be compared to tropical species. For example Goodyera repens, Dactylorhiza mentziesii, Platanthera bifolia, Dactylorhiza sambucina, Cypripedium calceolus, Listera cordata, Gymnadenia conopsea, Neottia nidus-avis, Epipactis palustris etc..

I think this is my first post to you.you are so far out of my league I hardley know what your talking about.you are like the "louis and clark" of this day, always teaching us of newly discovered,(at least new to us)species.we don't realize how important it is to expand our plant horizons.Thank you for doing that.

Longview, TX

congratulations Evert!
