Thank you, Jim, I was thinking the same thing in the wee hours. Didn't want to end your thread but was pondering a new one. This really is one of my favorite uses of my computer, even though it frustrates the daylights out of me.

Aimee, about getting info on ancestry.com I played awhile and somehow got around the $,just kept going into the message boards, try that approach,k? I'm not gonna pay a dime for info but sure have to keep careful with the mouse'lol Good luck, you'll get it figgered out':D

Aimee,rootsweb.com IS FREE'''

I was not really surprised to find that rootsweb is a branch of ancestry.com, and it appears to be quite similar to the original ancestry I used. In the end, few of the actual indexes are available without joining, but the message boards do offer contacts. I have noticed that Texas, which publicized a push to get everything online to "save the public time and money by making information as readily available as your bank statement", has actually done very little to justify the budget item and the hiring of "qualified people". Armed with all the facts, I can't find birth certificates or death certificates, so will be required to send a check and then wait. Louisiana isn't any better. Arkansas is at least trying, and an e-mail to some offices received prompt replies. In order to do effective searching online, one almost has to make it a career. And there are numerous dead or broken links. Still, we are slowly getting it done and in the future it should be more organized. And even if they aren't my blood relatives, I sure have seen some web sites! Oh, and any help is appreciated. Sis, thanks again for rootsweb, it's another step. Send more.

Have you tried GENFORUM? I have had lots of good luck there.
