So who is it? I would guess Dave

My nose isn't really that big, is it?

Instead of putting my foot in my mouth, I put my computer mouse in my mouth concerning this and would like to apologize to one and all that I offended. I wasn't being serious and was just kidding around. I didn't think it through and I went a bit too far with my kidding. I am sincerely terribly sorry.

Well, I'm not so sure. I was curious how accurate a representation it was, so I programmed my computer to draw a picture of me, using the same original (from my personal page here... click my username) color photo from which this picture is based.

check out the result here: http://whitinger.net/d2.jpg

That picture you see above is 100% computer generated, and notice the resemblance to the picture that windsurffer drew by hand. Not bad!

Elena,

What picture of the Queen was that?

Windsuffer,

I didn't know what Dave looked like but comparing your pic with Dave's computer generated one, its a good likeness. Thanks for posting it.

Middle, TN(Zone 6b)

Baa, We saw it on the news the other night. I tuned in late and didn't really notice where it would be displayed. The painting was supposed to be by some well known artist and the queen had posed for it at several sittings. The news said that she wasn't pleased.

Elena

Ahh the recent portrait by Lucian Freud, I just did a search for it as I hadn't read anything about it prior to your post.

There have been a number of portraits which she didn't like in the past 20 years, I originally thought it was one of those.

(Zone 5a)

Sorry about the nose Dave, I had to fight my cat's they were trying to eat the eraser as I was drawing.
I hope that you don't mind me drawing your picture, I thought that it might bring a smile to your face, Couldn't find one of Trish.
Thanks Dave, I don't know how to do what you did with the computer but it would have made it a lot easier lol. I wish I had better pencils and drawing parper, this is the first time I have drawn anything in about five years.
What does Trish think about it?

Elena here are some links I would like for you to see http://www.jdhillberry.com/gallery_family_thumbpage.htm
and http://www.dwsart.com/DougArtStudio.html These are all drawn with pencil and charcoal. I just wonder if you can draw or have ever taken an art class?
While I will admit that I am not a professional nor have I taken any clases, this is my God given gift which I was trying to share with the club. It was my way of trying to bring a smile to Dave's and Trish's face and I do hope that they enjoy it.

I find it really sad when a I see a thread that was posted as a good thing with no malicious intent at all is misinterpreted to the point where it is ASSUMED by an another that the person directly involved would be offended too.
Elena, I feel you were out of line with your comments because Windsurffer is one of the sweetest people I know and would never do anything to deliberately hurt anyone. I really think you owe her an apology. You mention Art 101, how about Psych 101?

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

wind, I thought it was excellent, I just wasn't sure, both Dave and Jianhua have that structure to their face. I can't draw a lick, I can oil paint, but that's so forgiving. love ya girl!

Windsurfer, I liked your drawing. I would be flattered that someone thought so much of me that they would go to the trouble of drawing a likeness. I went to your websites and being a fan of Quanah Parker, I read the story of the battle of Adobe Walls. Loved the portrait of him. I was surprised to find you live in that area...I was born in Knox City, but my parents farmed and lived in Vera. I had a cousin that taught in Iowa Park for several years. Small world. I remember the Comancheria very well and love to visit there when I can. Those Comanche ghosts are everywhere out there.

Mason, MI

Wow! Nice picture, Windsurfer! :-)

(Zone 5a)

Carol7 I couldn't have said it better, but you know that there is one in every crowd, I am going to pray for her.Thank you for your support and I am glad that you enjoyed it.

tiG I wish I knew how to paint, I use pastels on my pictures when I have the time but it takes me forever. I couldn't paint my way out of a paper bag lol, Lv ya to and thanks for your comment.

Lantana I haven't tried to draw anything in five years, but if you will email me a picture I will do my best.

Ocarsdotter thank you, I am glad that you liked it.
I just wonder what Trish and GrannyL thinks of it?

Middle, TN(Zone 6b)

I wish to extend an appology to windsurfer and to anyone else that I might have offended. I didn't mean it in a milicious way and am sorry that it was taken that way. I never stopped to consider that it was drawn by someone who would take it that I was being overly critical. Frankly I just didn't think period and for that I apologize. I just don't happen to be a person who cares much for pencil scetches and that is my problem, not that of the artist. Windsurfer thank you for not getting angry with me and for your prayers for the situation. Please forgive my stupidity in offending you. I really am truly sorry. I had no idea you had drawn the picture. I do think it is a very good likeness and that you do have talent. Please don't let what I have done discourage you in your art work.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Wind, Nice picture. Wish I was half as talented. I do lots of wood lawn ornaments in the summer and have always wished I could paint beautiful birds and flowers on them but I just don't have the talent to do it free hand.

(Zone 5a)

Elena I m not mad at you, did you see the web sites I have posted? I only wish that I was that good. I have always love to draw as far back as I can remember and will dabble in it the rest of my life. Your appology is accepted and I still consider you one of my garden buddies :)

Snowhermit I wish I could work with wood without getting splinters lol, I would love to see some of your ornaments.
How about this, you make em and I'll paint em lol.

Keep up the good work windsurffer.

Middle, TN(Zone 6b)

Dear Windsurfer,
I barely got a wink of sleep last night I was so torn up over what happened. Thank you so much for your gracious reply. You are a truly great lady and have handled this in a grand christian manner. For that you can be commended. I certainly never meant to come off that insensitive to other people's feelings. I have been on a really bad fibromyalgia downer since Christmas and am just doing my best to stay afloat. I don't really think very well when I am in one of my downer hazes and must learn to be more alert to what I am really doing instead of just lumbering along with things. DG is my escape when I am not able to do much of anything. I try to joke and kid a lot to overcome the depression that accompanies the downers. My kidding came back and hit me in the face this time. Thank you again for your fabulous attitude and keep drawing please.

(Zone 5a)

Elena I am sorry to hear that you are surffering from fibromyalgia and even though I am not familar with it effects, I assume that it isn't good.
It takes a big person to admit that they were wrong, it took a lot of courage and you are to be commended for it.
I do hope that you get a better nights sleep tonight, and please know that I do understand how depression can get you down. I have lost three of my friends this year and we buried one of them the Sat before Christmas. I have been so down in the dumps and like you DG is a wonderful place for picking up one's sprits, I had a lot of support from our fellow gardeners which help me a lot.
That was my reason for drawing and posting the picture of Dave, to enjoy giving something back and to have fun.
So please don't worry about it anymore, and if you need to talk to someone just email me and I will do all I can to help.
Your garden buddy
Kit :)

Crossville, TN

Goodness...amazing at the simularity! Windsurffer, you are GOOD! The only thing I can draw are FLIES! I can paint a little though...did a right good job on the old shed....OH! you mean paint, as in PICTURES! Nope...no talent there either.

Elena, I know where you are coming from...when we get down we think of something to make us laugh, thinking it will come across as funny to others, but it's the "mouth in motion before gears are engaged" syndrome...in this case...the fingers! I also know that this caused you to loose a lot of sleep...thinking you had offended a good friend. These things happen to all of us...we do just what you two did...appologize, accept...and move on...to more fun and laughter. Love & Hugs to you both!! Jo

Middle, TN(Zone 6b)

Jo and Kit, If things have to get confused between people isn't it great when the parties concerned are Christians and practice forgiveness and understanding? Praise the good Lord for that. Time to move on and enjoy our friendships. All's well that ends well. I can relax and sleep now that things are ok again. I am going to hit the hay right now for a nice long nap. Love you both. You two are the greatest!

Jo, we are still planning to work up some info. for you concerning places to stay, etc. in Nashville for your son and his family at Fan Fair.. I won't let you down on that, I promise. I am looking forward to meeting you when you get to TN. I think we will have a good turnout for the Roundup but it is a bit early for most folks to commit or even know what they will be doing that far ahead. I can commit as DH is retired and we don't have to plan it into a work schelule. Also living in the area is good for my part cause it won't take as much planning or energy to make a local trip. I can take my camper and my kitty that has to have special daily care. With my own camper I can rest whenever I need to. I will do my best to lead a very laidback lifestyle for a month or so before we have it. If we don't have any family disasters that take my energy I can maybe hope to feel ok. I think that go-vols, gardenwife, calalily, Melody and also hopefully notmartha will likely come. They are all great gals and will add greatly to the joy of the fellowship. I have been in touch with them and I think the odds are really good that they will try to make it. Notmartha has a lot further to drive than the rest and also has a large family so it is understandable that she isn't sure yet. We will have a grand time though now matter how small or large the group happens to be. Nighty night folks as I am going to try to sleep a bunch now. I have even started thinking of a couple of crafts to bring to put on the table for the numbered drawing. Go-vols and I are having a plant sale at my house in the spring and I can bring my leftover sale plants to trade. That should work well.
Love to you two and Blessings to you both.

Sounds like you have it all planed out, I do hope that I can make it I don't want to miss out on the fun. Keep your fingers crossed for me and I just might pop up lol.

Middle, TN(Zone 6b)

Hey, Windsurfer, It would be great if you could come. I am really looking forward to it. Lots of folks are thinking up lots of fun things for us to do. I look forward to the singing in the evening most of all. Well, on second thought, the plant swapping and the food sound great too. I think it will be wonderful getting to know more DG folks and getting to see once again some of those that I have already met. Getting a gift off the table will be fun and eating those fried apple pies and ... on and on... and on....I hope you will be able to make it.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Windy - maybe we could carpool. :o) I like your drawing - you really can make a good likeness! Like I told you, I love drawing and can do animals and plants, but I never can get people to look like their subjects. That's great! :)

Middle, TN(Zone 6b)

Windy, You couldn't come up with a better deal than to car pool with garden wife. I know her personally and she is the greatest. I give her my "stamp" of approval or recommendation. She is a great gal.

(Zone 5a)

Elena I know that we will be there, my Old Bucket wants to bring his telescope, he made it himself out of a carpet roll and it is huge. I just hope that he doesn't drive everyone crazy talking about the planets, moon and stars lol.
Plus I think that GW is a very nice person, but don't tell her I said so, it might swell her head SWAEG(smile with a evil grin)

Gw I love to draw eye's and I think that Dave has beautiful eye's, you know they say that the eye's are the windows of the soul, so he must have a good soul. Thank you so much for the offer but we will be coming in the van so he can bring his telescope. I contacted the Tenn State Park and they sent me some coupons that allows you to take 50% off all state park resort inns and also they offer a buy one get one free.
They said I could make as many coppies as I wanted, so if I take a picture of it and post it you guys can print it and use it to get the discount.Let me know what the both of you think.
