Thanks scooterbug,

log cutting
Eglantyne. This is the thread that made me think that dry cuttings would be ok to send. We will run the experiment. I go out the saw today in readiness to attack Butterfly. The clippers just will not do for this job.
frogs, have you tried big lopping shears?
last year Renee took a big chain saw to hers ... lol

I think you are an the right track with sending dry cuttings .
I have sent some in a 89 cent bubble envie with no problems.
Have them send you the envie with a postage stamp and their mailing label inside.
Tell then to only close it with a piece of tape so you can reuse it to send their cuttings.

My cuttings are stored for weeks with a plastic bag tied around the bottom part of each bunch of different hybrids.
Of course they each sit in a dry 5 gal bucket for support.
.Before I tie the bag I give a quick spritz of water with a spray bottle to get a little humidity in there.
they always root for me later on. As a matter of fact I still have about 6 bunches to get cut up and put into water.
By now a lot of the bottom cuttings can be potted up already after I cut the tops off for more cuttings.
I hope you understand what I'm trying to paint a picture of here.
Any questions, Please ask.
That is excellent news, Scooter! You have made me a very happy frog. Wrapping these things up is a pain. If I can just lop and send, I would probably do more of it. When they are roughly 1 1/2 inch diameter cuttings, a wet towel just adds weight. Whoo Hoo.
The big stems are just easier to saw than lop as I am crawling among the branches. I have the Monster to where I can get at it but Butterfly is solid to the ground and is held up with lawn chairs. Not a well behaved girl at all. This calls for a glass of wine. A toast to Scooterbug!!
scooterbug,
I am glad to hear that too because frogsrus and I talked about this "experiment" already and I will be the happy recipient and hopefully will be able to root them
BTW your cuttings You sent are doing GREAT,some of them even startet to root,
Brigitte
I send all my cuttings almost dry and it would work in the envies too.
Option # 2.................
this is the way I send all my cuttings, I learned this from seeing one of brugies packages at renee's
Just 1/2 sheet pt, wrap around base, dip in water and squeeze out and wrap this tightly , by rolling like a taco using a 6'' piece of tin foil (Da cheap o stuff) Rubber-band to keep it from shifting. This will be such a tight pkg it will barely change the size or weight at all. the wrapped part is about 3 inches or so ,like a little foil cap ;-)
Brigitte, would you have possibly taken a pic of the ones I sent you ?
edited cause I cant spell tonight , so what else is new ... har har

You know I usually do but I think my camera wasn't charged up that day and I was so thrilled to see your well packed cuttings and posted right away how happy I was, unwrapped them and put them into fresh water immediately.
As I said they look great, some of them don't have any nubbies yet i.e.Taylors Dawn,Maya,Hawaiien double white ,but look good,
thanks again,
Brigitte
I hope your garden is beautiful next year ;-)
Will be packing up those cuttings now. I can make them box size instead of subtracting for paper wads. We will see how much can be put into those priority boxes. I know what I will be doing on my next day off. I owe brugs to everybody but they were blooming to prettily to chop. Come sunday............ I want to be able to see my leopard plant again. It is blooming too.
Whazza Leopard Plant ?
;-P
Sounds good...boxsize cuttings sounds better...LOL...Got a picture of that Leopard plant ? sounds interesting ?
Brigitte
Thanks azalea.
I had a Ligularia plant in the past but had no idea there were so many different ones.
I will take a pic of it on sunday for everyone.
I felt sooooo bad a couple of weeks ago.
I had given away many cuttings of my old pink brug, but there were still a few left behind. One little green cutting that should have been trashed was looking sorta pitiful. I thought this one isn't going to make it so I pitched it in the trash and forgot about it. About a week later I was dumping the trash and the little cutting in the bottom of the trash can was putting out roots! No water, No bubbler, no heat mat and this little thing was living in the trash can. Well, now it is growing in a pot. LOL
Not saying that we should just toss the cuttings in a corner and forget them, but they may be tougher that we think.
I am so glad to hear the new news on how to ship/ receive them, this is great news. Thanks all for sharing!
Annie
bumping for newbies. extend that one piece of cutting into several pieces, ur success rate will be more than what one cutting can provide. good luck.
hi Shirley,
is that immortality iris showing. i just sent u d-mail.
I do Sago Palm Cuttings the same way and all so sugar Cane Some time ill tell you how i use old tires in the Summer Regards Paul H
Yes that is my old Immortality iris.
Love that one cause she re-blooms reliably every Summer and her fragrance is the best of any iris.
Strong lilac scent that will perfume the whole house just from one cut stalk in a vase.
