My Mom is dying with cancer. She has three cats that have spayed or neutered depending on which cat you are talking about. Marble is a sweet female, Wilson loves Marble and we would love to keep them together. Jake is a very large male. We are praying for good homes for them. They have been their whole lives with my Mom so are use to elderly. They are flighty if strangers come in and they hide.
If anyone can help me find good loving homes for them please let me know. I just can't bear with everything else to have to think about sending them to their death.
Please if you or anyone you know can help let me know.
My Mom's Cats
Oh Honibee, I wish I could help. I know how hard this is on top of everything else!! My 3 cats have been together for 15 years now and I would hate that they were split up. I hope and pray with all my heart that you find some kind person who will take all of them. How old are they do you think??
Louisa,
The female I believe is about 6 and the males are about 4-5
So they are still quite young then and should adapt more easily to new surroundings!! Can you place some ads somewhere and have a word with your local vet??
Honnibee - Sorry to hear about your Mom. Here we have an animal adoption agency called the "Cleo fund". It helps owners find homes for their pets. Usually the pet remains with the owner until a suitable home is found. I had trouble with a difficult dog and this was how i managed to find her a new and appropiate home. Maybe you should call your local shelter and see if there's any organizations to help. Maybe an add in the paper would help. Pets are wonderful companions for elderly people and many of them have elderly pets. I know the lady accross the street from me treats her kitties like they were her own children. If she lost them she's be lost without them.
HoniBee... What a dilemma... I hate to think of what might happen to my animals IF something were to happen to me. Several of my family would take in my old dachshund, but don't know any that would take my cats. Since cats make such better pets with less work, that perplexus me...
The idea of putting your mother's cats with other elderly people appeals to me... after all, they don't want to go though the 'training' period either, and can supply good, loving homes.
Sorry about your Mother... it happens to all of us, sooner or later, but isn't nice, no matter the preperation. My Best to you.
Honibee, I am so sorry to hear about your mom. I agree that if there is a vet or organization that has lists of potential homes, they could help you place them. Otherwise there is an organization, called Best Friend in Kanab Utah that is a huge no kill shelter, they do a lot of helping and adopting out, they may know of people in your area. They have their own website. Good luck, I have 4 foots that have people designated, should something happen to me. They are my family.
Marcia,
Thanks I am going to contact the Kanab Best Friend and see if they can be of help. To everyone else thank you for the input and I am going to check the things that all of you have suggested.
I sent the Kanab Best Friend an email and am waiting to hear from them. Hope they can give some place close or maybe we could get there if they would take them.
Oh,I do hope you have good luck in placing the cats. My Madame was owned by a lady who had to go to a nursing home, so my vet contacted me, knowing I was planning to get a second cat, to join my young male, Dudley. Madame was about three at the time, and has been a real joy to me, and to Dudley. She was shy at first, but he just won her over.
They sound wonderful, I asked DW how much to ship them here She said our three cats thirty-two fish and two neighbourhood dogs who seem to think they live here, are enough, sorry can,t help but nice cats such as these should find a home soon
I do hope that you find a good home for your mother's kitties. I am so sorry and understand what your going through my prayers are with you, God bless you hon.
Just to let you all know they went to a no kill shelter and now have new homes.
That's so great and glad found new home. =D
That's great news, and a load off your mind I'm sure.
It makes it a little easier.
great news
Thank God and may God continue to bless your family.
Kit :)
