Dave a forum like this where we couple show pics of our "treasures" to share info on, would be nice for me as a kind of junk collector...like i bought a rifle this morning, was told it was from spanish american war, think i was lied to, is a steyr 1897....,old glassware, junk jewlry...thinking this site is big enough there must be some experts around, or people with good memories...thanks. awesome site!!!!
junk/antique/collectible forum with pics
Sounds like a great idea! Sort of like that show where they help identify your treasures, and maybe tell you what it is worth.
Arlene my dad is a gun collector - but his interest are mostly civil war. Got a picture? I could forward it and see if he might know any information or where you can find info.
poppysue, i did a search, steyr is still selling guns... Civil War, boy would DH love to talk to him! the seller told me if DH didn't like i could take back....estate sale. i missed out on the fostoria glass...went for 10-15 a piece. ever heard of tahitian beads? supposed to be "hand blown and hand painted"? would really like to be able to post old stuff...i love to look at it too!
Pardancanda, yes, kind like those tv shows, show and tell, history and worth, etc.... i know there have to be others here who love to look at collectibles....

perhaps there could be a forum where things like this and many of the things that are in the regular photo forum could both go. Treasures we make, and treasures we find. Lots of things lately in the photo forum like this and maybe they could be incorporated into another forum. That would certainly help with the photo contest I'm sure too.
I think a DG version of Antiques Roadshow would be fun. We wouldn't sell, just ask questions and if there is an interest in something on the forum, people could just email and keep the selling/buying thing between each of them. I love looking at old things and have quite a few things that belonged to my grandmother. Would never part with them though.
S.
I would ba an active participant. I love old things and so does my husband. That is why we love each other. LOL
that would be fun, I like to see what old stuff people have too and would be very interested in what others may know about it. I have several books on collecting different things from antiques to toys to salt & pepper shakers. I would be happy to look stuff up too.
Flowox, what do you collect? i feel like a bandit, bought a corky pig hull piggy bank for 25cents..looked it up on web, antique stores listing 68.00 to 99.00. am going to offer it back to her...she gave me her # cause she had forgotten the cups that went with the pfalzgraff 4 piece setting with creamer/sugar and a couple of serving pieces for $5.00.... and a noritake platinum trimmed tea pot for $1.00... I love dishes, tea pots but can't pass up something that is a real bargain.
I don't really collect anything.........lol. I just have lots of books on collecting :o)
I do collect books on world war 2 and old german print books.
Sounds good to me!hubby and I buy and sell Victorian. Am always looking for items .
Sounds good to me, I have RS Prussia, antique plates, handpainted(old), Bavaria, Checkoslavacia, Germany, Selosia, etc. Would love to show and see some pics.
DH has dad's mussleloader, powder horn and bullet making set.

i collect tea pots and old dishes....stuff like that. would love to be able to look at people's treasures....
ME too!
Goody, then I can bore all of you to tears with my collection of fountain pens. And my light fixtures and bells and elephants and keys and hats and coffee pots and are you bored yet?
my hubby's one buddy gets all these fountain pens for people ....let me know if you are l@@king for a special kind.Maybe I can help
Ooooh! Mings, I love anything made for writing before 1900, and most of the good fountain pens pre-1970. I am not a status collector, I like the shapes and colors and the different techniques used for delivering the ink to the paper. To me, it's fascinating to see the developments as people tried to improve on the simple quill. I detest ball points, with a very few notable exceptions, and Mont Blanc doesn't impress me. But an ornate desk set made when they included a pounce pot and quill cleaner is a thing of beauty. I do love most Parkers, and Sheaffers can turn my head. But I also like the humble little Esterbrooks and Wearevers. Conklins, Spencers, Swans, Mabie-Todds, Aiken Lambert, to name a few, I never have enough. Got any on hand?
you lost me. Its my husbands friend that deals in pens. Sorry. I can contact him though and mabe he can help ? Ink wells are nice too. Do you collect those?
Ink wells got way out of my price range before I started actively collecting. You don't have those indulgences with seven kids to feed. I do have a very few, but none of the really valuable ones. I have a few old clay bottles of yellow ware, and some large teacher's bottles of Sheaffer. Quite a few just ink bottles, not wells. It's difficult not to have related collections.
We didn;t start doing much collecting till our daughter was older. I just collected house plants when she was younger.lol
It's done!
