From one extreme to the other!

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

A couple days ago it was 8 degrees below zero. Today it's 53 degrees above zero. This has been the most riduculous winter I remember ever having. I'll be surprised if any of my plants make it through these extreme temperature changes. Okay, it really is a beautiful spring day, but I wonder what tomorrow's going to be like. I would rather it stayed somewhat constant. Better for the plants and maybe so many people wouldn't have pneumonias and flus either.

Okay, I'm done complaining now. I needed to get that off my chest. Hee Hee!

Joan, that's what we live with constantly here. It usually doesn't get below zero, but it goes from 20's/30's to 60's/70's in a day or two. They have a saying here "if you don't like the weather, stick around a couple of hours and it will change."

And here I always thought zone 6 or 7 would be perfect. LOL! I have never been able to understand what everyone means about plants "heaving" out of the ground with temperature fluctuations, but I'm afraid I might find out. It usually stays a pretty steady below freezing temperature here from November through Feb, then starts to slowly warm up a little. We sometimes get a January thaw, but not too often and then it's only upper 30's or so. Kitty and I walked around the hosta bed when I got home tonight, and nothing looks different yet. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Cala - you just about took the words out of my mouth. Joan I thought we had the perfect climate also!! Actually this is the first bout of really bad weather I've known in years and it's going to warm up tomorrow!! So what are we to do!!! Grin and bear it :-)

(Zone 5a)

We have been having the same problem here. One day we are having a winter strom and the next day the weather man is telling us that well will be getting some rain this week...go figure1

Today it's 59 degrees here. If this keeps up, I'm afraid things are going to start growing, then we'll get winter again and then what happens? Do they die? All my plants were new last year and I'm worried about them.

Woohoo,we broke more records today,70's,believe it'' It's not good though as bulbs are flying up out of the ground and buds on the fruit trees, ugh' The Robins are fat and happy today too' Was a first taking down the last remaining Christmas lights in my shorts and summer top, lol' Need rain bad,drought(6yrs)now'

JoanJ that happened to me for two years with my tulips, it would warm up they would start to grow only to have the snow return and kill them. I spent about $60 on tulips and was so excited hoping that the spring would bring a lovely display of beautiful flowers, after two years of the snow killing them I got so mad that I pulled them all up and threw them in the trash.
