Okay, this is a cool feature (if you are an active journaler or trader).
You can now setup custom menu. This will let you add certain things to the menu that don't normally appear.
Right now, you can add an RID jump, Journal Search, TLID jump, and tradelist search. These only jump through your own data, of course. They are useful for quickly accessing your journal and TL from anywhere on the site.
Later, I'll be adding even more stuff to the custom menu. It's the beginning of making DG a little more customizable for our members.
To start playing with the custom menu, click on "Preferences", then click on "Custom Menu".

Another new feature - Custom Menu
COOOOL! You are just full of surprises today! How much coffee did you drink this morning?
LOTS AND LOTS AND LOTS AND LOTS AND LOTS!!!!!
Seriously, I should take a photo of my coffee mug and upload it so you can see it. It holds 32 ounces, and I've had 3 of them so far today.
Dave
The human super ball bouncing off the walls today!
That's me!
The directions for having so much fun......hmmmmm......
lots and lots of coffee and lots and lots of time sitting at your computer at your favorite garden web site! That's the recipe for having so much fun!
Cool Dave, love it!
You Da Man!
What Sharon said. See - she's the expert at writing easy to understand help documents. She has clearly and descriptively described the formula for having fun. :)
Yes, I can see you two are having great fun jumping to RIDs and TLIDs, but some of us are just sitting in front of our computers not having a clue what you're talking about, and if you go too far down that road, we won't care, either. We'll just assume the computer stuff is clever, but we won't use it.
I'm sure you don't want DG to degenerate into a 'computer nerds only' site, so maybe you'd better tell us what you've done in language the rest of us can understand.
Why would we want to add an RID jump? Where would we add it? What would it do? Or a TLID jump? Let us in on the secret.

If you were to go to the preferences page and check out the custom menu, you'll see a description of this feature.
The description says that if you don't know what this is, then you don't need it.
Here's why: If you use the Journal at all, or if you use the new TradeLists, then you know what the RID and TLID are, and what the RID and TLID jumps are.
If you use these features and DON'T know what the RID and TLID are, then you haven't gone through Sharon's tutorials that she spent several days working on (for the benefit of our newbies). Sharon describes in good detail how to use the RID and TLIDs.
As I said before: "...this is a cool feature (if you are an active journaler or trader).". If you aren't an active journaler or trader, then this feature is meaningless for you and can be safely ignored.
Dave
Wow I'm feeling defensive just suddenly.
I've got to say that I've slaved over this keyboard for 2 weeks trying to make the tradelists as user friendly as possible. 8 trusted members of Dave's Garden volunteered many hours of their time to go through the new feature with a fine toothed comb to ensure it's usability (with an eye toward newbies).
Sharon spent who-knows-how-many hours pouring over these features and documenting everything in an easy to follow tutorial.
Now please give us some slack!! We are bending over backwards to produce a quality site that anyone can use with no computer experience at all. We're also trying to make the site powerful for those advanced users.
Now that I believe we've succeeded in that, we want to celebrate a little.
Sorry for flying off the handle here... I guess I need to go back out into the garden for a while - been working here in front of this puter for way too long.
Sorry, Dave - but I'm not a clicker, and here you are producing something that's obviously got a click for every possible alternative! I had a peek at Sharon's Tutorial, but I can see it's not my thing. I'm too old for all these new tricks you keep producing out of your hat!
There's a lot of stuff at DG now, so we can all choose the bit that suits our way of doing things. I'll go back to the Forums now!
Has it got to 1000 yet?
Dave, should we call you Java Dave today? HOW many ounces of liquid caffeine did you say you've consumed? I'm teasing because I'm in the same boat...
(I actually think I'd be a much more cheerful person in the morning if I could just hook up an IV to my arm, fill the bag with caffeine and have it start dripping around 5 am.....) But I digress......
I'm biased, but I think the changes to the trade list and journal are wonderful! ;0) But like any software upgrade/change, it's going to take folks a while to get the hang of the changes. Mary, hang in there, and play with it - you won't break it, and the more you play, the more you'll find to like, I promise! And if it's just not your thing, that's okay, too - everybody's got their own comfort level.
I like how you can turn the menu and it's features on and off. If you are just here for a few minutes to read the forums you can turn it off. If you are here to work on your journal/trade list, and read some forums, you can turn it back on. That's really neat.
