Best/Worse/What did I Learn today? visit with friends old and new, come sit a spell!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Ouch ouch Lindakay, those teeth are like needles, you will have to wear gloves.

Much like Kevin they are making an appointment, should find out when appointment is for trigger injection with local anesthetic, goodness knows how long before they can schedule me in.

Weather warning just. Came across tv screen, tornado warnings for Georgian Bay, hmm best I think of a plan just incase

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Praying you can get your appointment soon Betty.
Stay safe from those storms.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Power just came on, Greg came and got generator set up so I wouldn’t have to worry about sump pump..kind is scary for awhile

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

♫♪Happy Birthday, Linda Kay!!♪♫ Hope your day was filled with more than sharp puppy teeth lol Glad you got puppy love and cuddles, too! Cake, Cake, and More Cake!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Thank you Susan.
We went to Applebee's for dinner and a margarita.
Betty, I hope you still have power.

Verona, ON

Happy belated birthday LK. I hope you got lots of puppy kisses. Do the pups still have puppy breath?

Lovely day here. The TH and I went for a long walk but the mosquitoes drove us home sooner than I wanted. I am just covered in bites and Benadryl is not helping.

Part way through our walk the TH discovered our American neighbours are up so we had to stop for a visit. They are dog people so didn't mind the boys seeking attention.

We too had a powerful storm pass through but I didn't lose power. The rain was heavy at times. At least I didn't have to water this morning.

Keiran sprained his ankle playing football on Wed. night so wasn't able to come yesterday. I'll deadhead in the morning as I want to go to the local farmer's market in just a bit. Wonder if they have local grown tomatoes.

Betty did your sump pump kick in ? I have a sump pump but it has never been on in 23 years. I insisted we have a sump pump even though we live on a hill. Both the builder and Warren thought I was crazy but as I said to them 'you weren't the one who was knee deep in extremely cold water bailing out the basement of the farm house.'

I need to get my generator running for an hour or so just to use up the gas in it.

Hope everyone is enjoying the same weather as I am.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Thank you Dianne.
Yes, they still have puppy breath. I get lots of puppy kisses all the time.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Dianne - it was a lovely day here, too (26celsius!). Tues night we had gale force winds & my patio table blew over, shattering the table top into a thousand pieces. Ah well, maybe it was time to downsize lol I have a bistro table for 4 that's good for me. I really don't need a table for 6.
Sorry to hear that Keiran hurt himself.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Lovely day here, wrote a long post and didn’t press send.

Jeff got here about 11, just looked at my list, went and did a check and left for Canadian tire to pick up what parts he can get, the rest i will order for another time.

Sorry Dianne to hear about Kieran, just when school is soon out, likely will have to watch himself for a bit. Glad there was no major damage in that storm, s9me trees down in the area but on my property just l8ned to pick up. Greg told me next time i pick up gas for the generator make sure it’s high test.our strawberries are out but will be a bade year for them, too much rain, imagine local tomatoes won’t be 8n for 2-3 weeks. Oh i just can’t wait, i usually eat just tomatoe, cucumber and corn all summer

Ooops Jeff needs me

Ahhh Susan, sometimes you can pick up at Canadian tire or marketplace those 2 chair cafe sets quite reasonable..you will be picking up glass for awhile

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

I have a small bistro set that I picked up at the Bargain Shoppe, several years ago, so it suits me to a "T"
Today is my darling daughter Michelle's birthday (in Winnipeg - 48 yo). I sent her birthday greetings & called her. It's also my friend DeAnn's birthday (62 yo) & I've been invited to her place for dinner to help celebrate, so I'm making chocolate ice cream to bring. They put a shade on their back deck yesterday, so I got her a couple of hanging Japenese lanterns to hang from it, as a gift.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Happy a birthday to your daughter Susan, am sure your friend will love and enjoy the Japanese lanterns, enjoys your eats.

Just climbed into bed, Jeff is watching a movie and I am watching Designated Survivor a on Netflix. I was spoiled today, a 20’ limb cutter, two timers, one for back lights and the other for water feature and a 40” tv for my bedroom which I in no way needed but Jeff thought I did. He connected, Netflix, Crave, Prime, google, utube with no commercials, just live a tv that is way smarter than I but do like ask8ng Siri Mon it to search things on it 😜

Tomorrow he goes golfing with Greg and the kids then heads home.
All that was on my list has been done, will take me weeks to burn all the tree l8ned he cut did eave throughs, am sure he is tired.

Calling it a day!

Verona, ON

Glorious day here. The Weather Liars predict it will really heat up mid week.

Zeke had a party all by himself overnight. I took a sleeper as I have only been getting 2 - 3 hours sleep every night so really needed some good sleep under my belt. When I got up this morning there were Tartar Busters strewn all over the house. There are 40 in a box and they each had 1 so there were 38 of them waiting for me to step on.

Went to the local Farmer's Market yesterday afternoon. The strawberries are delicious. There's no local produce not even radishes yet but the vendors keep showing up even just to talk. I think they are wise as people will remember that once the season kicks in. I also got a broccoli quiche and some large soft pretzels.

Yum on the ice cream Susan. What did your friend make for dinner?

Think I am heading to bed even just to read and listen to a concert on YouTube. Probably the Simon and Garfunkle one.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Afternoon all, although sunny like your area Dianne the wind is up here, need a light jacket on.

Bet the TH were in a corner just waiting for you to find what they had done..lol
Thinking next Sunday I will take a ride to Elmvale which has one of the bigger farmers market. Doubtful other than bakery items and berries there won’t be much locally grown veggies.

I was trying to be quiet as to not wake Jeff this morning but here he was doing same. Had a nice breakfast with Jeff, well I watched lol then off he went to play gold with Greg and the boys. He told me to ‘to do’ list😜

Wind died down just long enough to get most of all the tree limbs burned.

Tom and Shannon from restaurant next door brought me over eats, looks great, sure hope I can get some down

Sounds like you all have been busy with storms, sump pumps, puppies and assorted activities!

We just got home from "Girl cousin reunion" and are already looking forward to 2025, probably at Ocean Shores at my cousin Shirley's condo. This year we stayed at the Double Tree hotel in Spokane. My uncle owned shares & was on the board, my cousin did the accounting for them. The 5 of us had the presidential suite & the room across the hall for free plus VIP parking & all our breakfasts for the 3 days... all free. The suite is huge, almost as big as our house with 2 bedrooms, 3 king beds, 3 bathrooms. 2 huge living spaces with big screen TV, dining with chairs for 6. We played cards and games & talked to the wee hours of the morning. Tomorrow is back to our reality and

We ordered Marie a stand up walker, it came just hours before we left for Spokane and needs to be assembled. Marie sees MD on Tuesday and we hope to get her enrolled in physical therapy to strengthen her back and reduce the pain.

Morning, been for my chiro appt., had torrential rain all night but the sun is now out, going to be a hot week, they say higher temps than florida so i turned a/c on.

Sounds like a wonderful time Pat, bet you got rid of lots of built up stress and feel the few days away is just what was needed. Now you know how the rich live, imagine a suite offer8ng so much. Got a giggle with the facial photo😜. Stanley is a big kittie, did you take him with you?

Hope Marie doesn’t fight you on using the walker.

Hungry this morning, almost thought I should stop into T8m Hortons for coffee and gaggle/cream cheese but didn't, now tempted to go to Foodland to buy bagels and cream cheese.

Nothing on my “to do” list for today, think this morning I will work on the quilt

What are you all up to today?

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Glad to hear you ladies had a good time. Nice to have the free suite for your stay.
Betty, glad you had the boys to help get your list done.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Posting Sharon’s post re dog show in Michigan

Laying hear am sure in an hour or so I’ll not be able to move my fingers as my right hand got full force of the limb trimmer..

Should have kept working on the quilt but no thought i should be cutting more limbs, did know how to make the unit longer so was holding handle with knees, supporting the heavy unit with left hand while pulling cord with right, unit fell and hit my knuckles

Drats
Could have been worse

Thumbnail by Bettypauze Thumbnail by Bettypauze Thumbnail by Bettypauze
(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Oh BETTY! That hurt just looking at it. I don't think this longer unit is a good idea for you.
We hired someone to take care of Stanley and water the flowers. He HATES cars, Jenny went to Marie's son's house to play with their dogs. Congrats to Sharon & her dogs for their impressive wins!
Eating out is SOOOoooo expensive! The breakfast buffet at the hotel was $22 per person and I would NEVER have spent that much money. Thank goodness it was comped. I don't want to think what the room would have rented for.
The walker was Marie's idea so no push back there, let's see how easy it is to put together AND transport in the car.

Victoria Harbour, ON

You would have gotten a deal at $22 Pat, can’t go anywhere less other than MacDonald, they make it seem cheap but then they add on taxes, tip etc. and truly unaffordable. Think the time of taking family out for eats has long passed.

Hope putting the walker together is easy, glad she has decided it’s a good thing to be using, now hope it’s lightweight and can go into the vehicle without injuring yourself.

I might have forgotten to say my niece 45 had a heart attack a few years ago, she has to be very careful

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

You would think a luxury motel would give you free breakfast.
I agree about food prices. Even shopping for food it outrageous.
Congratulations to Sharon and her dogs.
Betty, please be careful. Last week you hurt yourself on the weed eater.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

OH Betty - I'm surprised that you're posting with those hands! Now you've learned that some things have to be left to others to do/help with!
Pat - how luxurious for the Girl Cousin Reunion! Glad you didn't have to pay those outrageous prices!
Dianne - it was a potluck for my friend's birthday. It was really nice to meet some of her family.

I'm off to Red Deer to get the Divorce and Property Division treated as separate documents and also to get the Restraining Order distance increased so he can't be my close neighbour in the Park. 250 metres should do it. Each of these will require a trial. Hopefully they can be dealt with in one trial.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Here's hoping it's ONE trial. Susan, you have been thru the wringer with this stuff. I just can't wrap my head around the length of time it has taken to get this final!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Storm is brewing, just went and unplugged my machines just incase.

Sat outside with Marie and Ted, a father stopped and asked if we saw his 9 year old son who left school, he is diabetic so it’s imperative they find him shortly.

I sure hope you can get the never ending divorce finalized.. i was think8mg to myself, if 2 neighbours were fighting and one got a restraining order on the other I’m sure judge would not make the other move?? I wouldn’t have thought they would change the restrictive area?? Hope so for your sake though. Greg if not working late said he would drop in on his way home so if he doesn’t I guess I get to eat the chocolate pie I made him lol

I embroidered a birth announcement block for the back of the giraffe quilt, needs to be pressed and blocked into the backing, might just add a giraffe to make it more interesting.

Lindakay, got 2 pretty pink roses on Todd’s rose bush

As for my right hand the knuckles are blue and hurt a tad but A ok to take on gardening if weather cools down.so hot and humid!

Thumbnail by Bettypauze Thumbnail by Bettypauze
TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Well, I'm back, and to put in a request to change the distance and another request to detach the Property Division from the Divorce filing would be $50 charge each. I was also told that he could move anywhere he wishes. Canadian Bill of Rights (or something like that) says that everyone has the right to live wherever they wish. So, I put in to divide the Property Division from the Divorce and paid my $50. The trial is July 5th at 10am. Dianne will serve the trial paperwork to him. I'll give it to her tomorrow. Then she needs to go with me to Red Deer to get the paperwork commissioned before the 5th.
I finished the 5th quilt and put some fancy quilting stitching on the borders. Everything else is "stitch in the ditch". Here are some pictures of the quilt.

Next project is to make a Friendship quilt for a couple that are moving from Torrington to a larger town with medical facilities. Larry's getting some health issues that would be better served being near a hospital & medical clinic. Estelle has developed diabetes, so she'd be better off with a medical clinic, too.
I'm going to do 6" blocks - half white/pink and half white/blue. I'll get all her friends to sign a half block on white paper, then print it onto fabric, then I'll join the pieces and quilt stitch it using a large template on the back. I have the backing & batting ready. This should be quick & easy. I'll take the pre-drawn paper squares around & get people to sign in the triangles. Here's what I mean

Thumbnail by Tallulah_B
(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Praying all goes smoothly for you in court Susan. I love your quilts.
Betty, that quilt tag is so pretty.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Your newest quilt is so striking Susan, well done! I hope you can prevent Bob from moving in so close to you. He has NOT moved yet, so hopefully you can stop this. Maybe you will get lucky and both of them will move somewhere further away?

Betty, your gardens are beautiful as always. I am looking forward to seeing your finished quilt. Your quilts are such treasures.

Linda, how old do the puppies need to be to start weaning? Are they getting softened solid foods now? I have only ever been involved in that process once, 3 years ago, so I don't remember.

Victoria Harbour, ON

103°F here today and next few days not quite as hot/humid so I am just lazing around and seeing I didn’t want to buy fabric, use just what I had it took longer than putting a plain backing but once it’s together and quilted am sure it will be great. Should go downstairs and rest and starch front and back but tomorrow is another day.

Dianne, imagine you are having the same weather as I, was seeing on posts how hot it is on dog paws when they are walked, on a day like today it’s something like 135°F, guess that is on pavement though. Do the dogs get to go in the lake to cool down?

Deb, anymore shows in the near future?

Sharon, if our weather is at these temps I hate to think what yours will be like, unbearable i am sure.

Amazon delivery guy dropped off the guide plate for my bandsaw, he looked exhausted from the heat, i feel bad, should have offered him cold water or pop, completely slipped my mind.

Funny Susan that we bother got a burst of energy for quilting and here it’s on the hottest days this summer lol. The friendship quilt will be a show piece for sure.

I thought that might be the case, can’t prevent someone from living anywhere but they might be able add a few more restrictions. Is your street the only street he can enter and leave by? Lordy that will make for a high stress situation.

Lindakay, do you have homes for the pups yet?

Pat, last few days I should have been out working in the gardens but don’t need heatstroke. I have been watering sod under the gazebo but it looks as though much is dying. Think next year I will buy a 10’ square of good fake grass then I will not worry about it staying green.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

I don't know Betty, what I read about fake grass definitely turned me off. Imagine it's HOTTER than regular grass and needs to be vacuumed!!! Nah, I'll stick with real grass. You might want to rethink WHEN you plant your grass/ or sod. New grass just can't take these temperatures.
I got a haircut, waxed eyebrows and ran errands for hours today. I did manage to find a BIG beautiful blue pot to re-pot our hanging basket of purple flowers. We never meant to hang it.
I've been frantically trying to finish up tasks. I bought a fake grass plant couple of weeks ago. Today I painted a metal stand/pot for it and got it "potted". Repainted some outdoor art that the dark color did not stand out against our brick wall, now sculptures are now white. I got more wall art hung and I am not done, too tired to climb the ladder again tonight. Made returns to stores etc etc.
The water is running so the picture does not look clear. The angel and the obelisk are what I painted. The sculpture above the silver sideboard, I painted and added the clock into the metal collage. I think I did a pretty good job of matching the color!

Puppies are both spoken for. They are 5 weeks old. They will be picked up when they are 8 weeks. Yes, they are being weened. They have been eating soft food for about a week now. They are little piggies.
I got my 2nd cataract surgery this morning. Picked up my readers on the way home. It's so nice to finally see clearly.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Your yard looks lovely Pat, love the art..is that the cupboard you just revamped or the one the lady was coming to quote on? You certainly did a great job, you, missed your calling, you should have been an interior decorator.

Bet you are thrilled Lindakay to have the surgeries behind you, it will feel odd your not having glasses. Must be heart breaking letting the dogs go, you will be lost without them.

Was another hot day, they called for rain, we got a good 30 drops, passed us by, gardens sure need it. I spent the morning in Midland, did groceries, sure doesn’t take long to spend $150 (electric can opener was $18).

Had a bread I only ate a few slices out of and thought I would make a bread pudding with it so looked for raisins and cranberries to do in it, NOT paying $8-$12 each for a little bag , nope..because it’s made in microwave I don’t have to turn on the oven, might look and see if I have raisins in canister but doubt it, next time I am in Midland I will go to Bulk Barn and buy a little bit incase I have bread pudding hunger.

I sawMacDonald and was hungry so got an egg McMuffin and coffee, haven’t had anything else to eat as tummy is yucky grrr

Was going to cut grass this evening when it cools down but think I will leave it till morning as bed is calling my name

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Hi ladies - sorry that I've been MIA. Busy week.
Betty - how's your hand?
Pat, your artwork & painting is great! Love the setup :)
Linda Kay - my neighbour's dog had 5 puppies about 6 weeks ago & they're on hard food and, as you said, eat like little piggies lol

I got more signatures for the friendship quilt. Now, to go to Wellness to use their printer to print them onto fabric. Mine is running out of ink, AGAIN. I know that I use it a lot, so shouldn't be surprised but I'm always caught unawares.
Last night I went to the community hall meeting in my hamlet. When got out & started the car, my battery light came on. I had to drive to the next town to get a tiramisu cake for today's Senior's meeting, so I did that and there were no autobody shops open after 8pm, of course. Today I took my car into my mechanic (3 blks from me) and he said "I thought I'd seen everything, but obviously I hadn't. I'd heard of it, but never seen it". My block heater cord was put under the hood and apparently gotten tangled in a belt & pulled it off. I'll get my car tomorrow, at the cost of another $200+. Well, in 3 weeks I've had my car towed ($350), rear shocks replaced, front tires balanced, replaced wipers & oil change ($444.65) and now $200+ more. My car's getting expensive - $1k in 3 weeks? OUCH Good thing that my mechanic (Paul) knows that I'm good for payment. I have to wait until my pension comes in this month, to pay the last two.
Tonight Dianne & I went to a Resident's Rate Payer's meeting in the next town (she drove, of course) and had a lovely meal (catered). She got to meet a lot of residents she hadn't seen in years. In a week we'll find out if we won the draw - several door prizes were offered. Then we went to our favourite Thrift Store & I found an umbrella - my old one broke in the wind.
On the 28th Dianne & I are going camping with our Camping With New Friends group, for 3 nights. Looking forward to it.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

No, we had a lady take 1 end table and gave her the color chips etc. The piece came back and we HATE it! We have not decided whether we will give her an opportunity to try again or whether I will just do it all myself. I REALLY did not want to have to do it but .... we paid $120 to paint the end table with the idea that we would have her do the tall boy dresser, Antique buffet, and dining room table after we confirmed she would give us what we wanted. I don't know how much was language barrier

oops, company here, got to go

Victoria Harbour, ON

Lordy hard to keep up with your schedule Susan, you must be exhausted by bedtime.
Friendship quilts need so much pre pre work, the actual making of the quilt is the easy part.wow that is a lot of $$$ when you are on a solo income, feel for you.

Your not liking the dresser is it because it is stark white, could you add a glaze to it in order to make it fit in? Bet Stanley was thrilled to have you back home.

Weather is heavy, rain any minute or like the last few days likely to pass us by. Just incase it does rain I was out at 8 am doing grass then weeding, tried to get the front ditch done but drats used up both batteries, hoping rain staves off so i can finish the ditch, things look so much better when weeding is done.

Was talking to Tom and Shannon from the restaurant, they are so excited about getting married September 7th, will be quite a due, I said I might paint a few wine glasses which I haven't done in decades, used to do them in the hundreds for weddings then guests would take them home, not sure if I have the ability anymore so
will find time to test them out.

Lindakay, Todd’s roses brought a smile today, the buds are opening nicely. Nearing the pond the wild ground cover roses are starting to bud and open, regardless just how many times i dig them out of the ground slake they reappear.

Betty - I now have AMA because these charges are getting ridiculous re: my car.
Wish I had it before the tow.
You're right, the pre-work for the Friendship quilt is a lot, but it will get done. Easy to put together though.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Susan is AMA a repair insurance policy?

Got quite a bit done on the baby quilt, could still do more but don’t want to aggravate my shoulders, tomorrow is another day

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

AMA is the Alberta Motor Association, same as CAA (Canadian Automobile Association), throughout Canada & also has a company in the US. Drivers get discounts for any road-related emergencies such as roadside assistance, towing, tire repair, etc etc. either free, or discounted. I get discounts on gas with Shell, car & personal insurance and a bunch of other stuff. I paid $171 for the year & wish that I'd had it before I got towed. It would have been free, rather than $350.

Betty, those roses are beautiful.
Susan, glad to hear you got that insurance. It will save you a lot.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

My mechanic will take the last part I owe ($700'ish) over 2 months' worth of pension, so that's good. He's pretty good about waiting. He's a small shop, so doesn't make a lot of money, but he knows that I'm good for the $$.

Betty, those roses gave me a smile, too - love the metal rose & the fairy among the roses. No, you don't want to be aggravating your shoulders.

I'm looking forward to my double red peonies blooming. The buds are huge. My friend DeAnn pointed out that my irises have been blooming for days - they're so pretty - white with purple. I'll have to take some pics to show everyone.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, finally a nice soft rain all night and likely all day, sad it happens on weekend when everyone wants sunshine but farmers are saying

Susan my peony plants did not do well, in fact the biggest out front didn’t even come up, will wait till fall when plants go on sale and buy a few, your doubles must be outstanding, look forward to photo’s. You are lucky to have such an understanding auto mechanic.

I need a roll of solder so was thinking of running into town later and pick one up and a half dozen wine glasses so i can paint daisies on them and see if I’d be satisfied with the look, enough to want to do 80-100 as a gift.

Mason and Evan come at 9-11, running out of ideas of what to make?? Any ideas?

Next week we celebrate Canada Day, think i will tell them to enjoy Saturday activities and I will have weekend off.

So what are you all doing today?
