How long do you leave them on? All day? All night? 24/7?
I plug mine in at 7am and turn them off around 11pm. Im wondering(dangerous)would that make the tree dry out faster? All that heat on the branches! (?)
Christmas Tree Lights.?
Dori, I too leave mine on all day long. But I don't have a real tree this year. But when I did have a real tree I would keep going back to it feeling of the lights to see if they were hot to the touch, and I would turn off the lights if they did get too hot. As for drying out the tree?? well I think if you keep it well watered you should be ok. But this is just MHO
I leave mine on during the day when I am home. (Live one). The artificial one in the family room usually at night, and the artificial one in my bedroom I leave on all night. The outside lights just a few hours before bedtime.
Dori... For a couple of years, I strung miniature Christmas lights in my large Ficus Benjaminus, only to realize I had many tiny burn marks later, on the leaves, which I didn't see at Christmas time. Fortunately, it shed those leaves the next growing season, and grew more. No more lightsd on live trees for me, even a cut one!
I try to leave mine on all day but with work and all I do have to turn them off!
Now the big question is why do I always buy the REJECT lights????? I think little elves come in my house every year and unscrew the bulbs. Even when I buy new one's they work for about a week and then they go out or stop blinking or just dissapear. What is up with this???? I give up!!!!!! Sorry just venting!!!!

Do you have xmas trees already inside and with lights and everything? odd.... we take the tree usually in on 23rd or so.. and we open presents in the 24th eve, not in morning of 25th. :)
We put ours up on the 16th. A real tree, freshly cut! It will stay up till after the new year-as long as its not rainning needles. We open gifts christmas morning-after we wake the kidz up!!
Sue funny about the lights always quiting. I say that about batteries. I don't care what kind or how many I buy when I get ready for a AA all I have is AAA and vice versa. We haven't decorated this year as much as past years but I was always afraid of a live tree drying out and catching on fire. I wouldn't leave them on at night.
evert, this year is an exception, but usually we put our tree up on the Friday after Thanksgiving in late November and keep them up until the first weekend after the New Year. Great news, my mom is giving up her fabulous artificial tree, it's too big and she's getting old. And we are going to be it's new home. This thing is huge!! Then we'll go back to our regular routine of keeping the lights on 24/7.
I though to buy an araucaria we would save lots of xmas tree money... :)
evert........in Germany we used to open presents on the 24th too.
I have an artificial tree and since it's just me and my DBF here, I really don't turn it on at all. I had it on yesterday when GW came over for Coffee. Other than that, it'll probably stay off until the kids get here to open their presents :o)
