Where do you spend Christmas?

Villa Rica, GA(Zone 7a)

Do you stay at home and have your family come to your house?
Or do you have to make the drive to somewhere else? If so how far and do you have plans of flying in?
We always go to my mother's house and then later on to the inlaws house. probably about 75-80 miles round trip.

Kitchener, ON(Zone 5A)

I have my Christmas here at home with my husband and boys. My step daughters and most of the inlaws come for dinner as well. They are all local.
Then on the 26th (boxing day in canada) we pile into the car and head up to my home town about 200 miles from here and do the whole thing over again with my father, siblings and their children.
We've been doing the two Christmas thing ever since we started our own families, at my Dad's suggestion, so we don't have to haul the "Santa" load all the way to his house yet we can still have a family Christmas all together. It's perfect.

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

Christmas Eve we go to my mothers which is just like 10 minutes away.Christmas morning we have at home and then go to MIL for Christmas dinner and spend the afternoon there she also is just 10 minutes away as a matter of fact she lives right across the street from my mother. lol

Newark, OH(Zone 5a)

just me and my DBF at home alone christmas eve, and hopefully my kids will be over on christmas day. Neither he nor I have any family close so it's just the 2 of us until my kids get here from having their christmas with their dad. Gets kinda lonely that time of year :o(

Montrose, PA(Zone 5a)

I HAVE EVERYBODY HERE. MY MIL, TWO DAUGHTERS, SIL AND OF COURSE MY BEAUTIFUL GRANDDAUGHTER. WE OPEN OUR GIFTS TOGETHER TOO! SANTA KNOWS TO BRING MAKAYLA'S PRESENTS HERE! HO! HO!

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

We've always gone to my mom's (next door) until this year, she's given it up and everyone is coming here. I do most of the cooking anyway, so this will make it much easier on me. I love it!!

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

I stay home with my hubby and daughters. We used to run all over the place and it just plain got to be too much. Now it is just a quiet couple of days at home, with presents for the kids of course.

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

My DH and I usually work on the Holidays. We celibrate early with the kids and or mail their gifts and then work to cover for those who need to have the day off to be with their families. That way we get to feel good about ourselves by seeing the younger family people able to spend the day with their families. It never occured to us that we should feel bad about working those days since it is such a great feeling to see the younger people able to enjoy it!

Villa Rica, GA(Zone 7a)

Zany, I must say you and your DH are one of a kind! It takes a special person to do such a thing! I can tell you are have a very warm heart. *Ü*

Peapod that to me is the best Christmas ever. It was only when the kids were much older that we started visiting relatives and friends. Of course, we didn't have much choice when we were abroad, which was most of the time!! The next best times we had were with with mum and dad. They used to have this sprawling Victorian house and there were us seven kids, and their kids and friends. The house would be overflowing with people. Dad used to get merry on his home made Baileys (Irish Cream - very fitting since he was Irish) and would slip a glass or two to my teenage kids, unbeknown to me - until they started running to the bathroom!! He was a wonderful chef, a talented musician and so much fun. He would play the piano and we would all sing and dance and usually ended up in a heap on the floor laughing so much. He passed away 6 years ago now and I miss him!! This year we are spending it quietly! Don't feel like travelling after our trip to Germany and my son's wife doesn't want to travel down from Chicago. So we won't get to see any of our grandkids. Little Ben will be in Spain with his mum and dad. They went off in a camper and I have only heard from them once when they were half way there - that was on Saturday!! No word as yet!!

Spring Hill, FL(Zone 9a)

We have an early celebration for Christmas/Thanksgiving in New York with the 3 children who are locals there and the Grandkids. The other 2 kids are career military and are not able to get there for the day. Then its off to sunny Dixie where DW and I spend Christmas at home although we venture to my eldest sister's (she is local in FL) for dinner with her family and my Mom who winters at her house.
The "best" Christmas' were when the kids where young, still at home with their innocence intact, and we were broke but didn't even know it let alone care!

We'll be spending Christmas at home. Oldest DD and family in PA and it's too far for such a short time. Middle DD is here but flies out on Saturday to TX to be with her fiance's family. Youngest DD in Ohio and will be with her husbands family. But that is as it should be. We all send our Christmas Boxes early and celebrate when we can. We were like Badseeds family when the girls were little. We always stayed home and had a wonderful day, opening gifts, playing games, etc. My parents would come to our house and Christmas with DH's family in Cincinnati was always the Saturday after Christmas. We'll talk to them all on Christmas Day. Merry Christmas to ALL!!!!!!!!!! vic

Our Christmas is so hectic that I think we need to do something different soon.

Christmas Eve we go to MIL's house which is only 6 miles away. We have supper there, then back home to open gifts with all the kids, (mine and dh's). I then go to church with my son, who has chosen to be confirmed in his Dad's church. Then we all go to Midnight Mass.

Christmas morning, after Santa gifts are opened, DH's kids go to their Mom's and we pack up and drive 60 miles to my family, wherever they are having Christmas. We have a hurried dinner, open presents and then we have to get my kids to their Dad's, which is another 60 miles.

It's not a very relaxing scene, and we are all relieved when it's over. This is the only way all the families got to see the kids over the holidays and we've done this for 10 years. I'm ready to simplify it now that the kids are getting older.

I don't know! For the first year, my husband's extended family is having Christmas the Saturday before. They are having it like this because so many now have grandchildren and will do other things on Christmas Day. There were 6 children, then 18 grandchildren, then 24 great-grandchildren and also about 8 great-great-grandchildren. Most live here in the mtns. of NC.
I suppose on Christmas Day we will go to my daughter's or my daughter-in-law's. My house is so small, I don't have a proper dining room table and mostly only invite people over during the summer when we can eat out on the deck.

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

I spend Christmas at--Toysrus,kmart,younkers,marshall fields, target and more!!! Oh you mean who do we spend it with!!!
Christmas eve is my MIL
Christmas morning with the boys, then my 3older boys go to their granny's(dads side)for a breakfast.
Then we are suppose to pack up and go to MIL sisters thingy-I just dread that. I want to stay home and play with the toys and the boys!!!! Sometimes I skip it! =]
I cant wait for SPRING!
ho ho ho merry Christmas

Point Pleasant Beach, NJ(Zone 7a)

This year we were going to stay home with the kids and have my parents stop by. But then plans change. Hubby eldest son (23) Wants us to come up by his Uncles house really bad and spend Christmas with them. SO this year we will do that, since we have never spent Christmas with his eldest son before. Their relationship has grown a lot this last year. I feel bad for my parents, because now we are unable to see them. But my mom understands even though she is hurt by it. I really do hate having to cater to everyone and try to make everyone happy. Because along the line somewhere somebody gets hurt. Told mom Next year we are definately coming by them. But after that NO MORE. I refuse to travel anymore with 3 kids. They want to enjoy the presents Santa got them right at home. And I would love to be able to relax.
