Eyes,

There are many factors to be worked out, and ideas are still blooming.

I'm sorry that I can't give you any additional info at this time.

Since the idea of a regular cookbook was shot down for a CD because of cost......I have another idea. Why can't Dave just open up the entries to people who pay for the cookbook, like they did for their subscriptions.....then we could all print all or part of the cookbook as we are interested in? Therefore, there would be no additional costs to Dave & Trish........and all would be pure profit!

I'd love to have mine on a CD, easier to handle.

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

Is it not going to be printed like a regular cookbook either? Just wondering, as I haven't seen anything on that.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

Joan there's a long thread about that, must be in recipe forum.

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

Thanks tiG. I totally missed that thread. I just went and read it, so now I understand what's going on.

I'm not sure how I feel about it either. I love my printed cookbooks and wanted to give one to each of my kids. But, if it's going to be too costly, then that won't work.

My concern with it on CD would be that with all the advances in technology, how long will it be until the CD takes the same route as the old 5 1/4 inch floppy thingy. I'll just go with whatever the majority of us want.

Joan, that is exactly the same thing I wondered. It really wasn't long before 4-track gave way to 8-track, which lost out to cassettes in just a short time, and now it's becoming CDs. If I've seen that in the lifetimes of my kids, and technology is moving faster every day, I think we know the answer. I like the idea of paying for a subscription to access the material, and the ones who want it in printed form will then pay for it by printing their own. I don't know about any technical problems it might entail.

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

I've thought about this while I was doing my cleaning and I think I like the idea of paying a subscription to access the cookbook. Then we can print it out and bind it ourselves. Plus, if Dave would allow it, then we could add good recipes as we find them, so it could be an ongoing thing? Maybe I'm way off base here too.

I don't know the answer to the people that don't have printers though. I might find myself in that situation someday too, as I've had mine forever. It's an old HP Deskjet 560C.

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

Joan, we have already seen people pull together in the face of need. I think almost everyone has a friend who would, for the price of ink and paper, print the cookbook out for those who don't have a printer. If it's online, it doesn't have to be limited to a single printing, they can print it as funds become available, so everyone pays at their own pace. My new printer isn't working, so we are in the same boat. It could happen to anyone anytime. But I just know I will find some way to have that cookbook.

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

That's correct Aimee and Joan......I didn't have a printer or a real computer, but now I do and would be willing to do that for some others as well. My son is in computer engineering and has assured me that we ain't seen nothing like the changes in technology that are eminant.

I for one wouldn't use the cd as much as a printed book.

Crossville, TN

Since I have been out of it for a while, I was not aware that the Cook BOOK was now a Cook CD! I looked forward to giving gift copies, but some have no computers. I don't want to spend all that time and cost of paper and ink to print out my own copies! Just my opinion. Jo

We're actually not decided yet which medium we'll use to distribute the cookbook.

Right now, we're gauging interest in the printed version, in the Recipes forum.

Nothing is set in stone yet.

Thanks Dave...as usual, I put my mouth in gear before my brain was engaged!! I better mosey on over to the correct thread and give my opinion there!! LOL Jo

Ooh, is there still a chance of a book versus a CD? I do have a soft spot for an old fashioned cook book. But I understand the economics involved. If a book is done, it is a lot of repetition, I think, of the same or practically the same recipes. I am in favor of printing a basic version where there are multiples, then noting variations below, so everyone is included while avoiding needless repetition. I am standing by to see how it ends up, still want to see my name in lights, I mean print.

"down the Shore", NJ(Zone 7a)

I'm still thinking that some ruthless editing is called for...so that everyone can be included, with at least their one or two best recipes. That might be more in the original spirit of the book, everyone here contributing a couple to the book, to have a lovely keepsake of all their dg friends, and to pass on to other friends and family. It doesn't need to be a 'complete' cook book, we all probably have many of those... There is something joyous about a book, and one made of our dg friends recipes would be special. Not sure a computer CD can compete with that. John

I like that idea John' Since it would be considerably smaller less expense to print/ship'' I also collect cookbooks and the CD idea for me wouldn't be as feasible to use' IMHO Sis'

AMEN, Pardancanda! Jo

Maybe those who submitted could choose which of their recipes they'd most like to see included (based on however many are needed)?
