What's Your Favorite Christmas Carol???
Oh my there's my girl I thought you forgot all about us. lol Welcome back. I think my favorite would have to be Away in a Manger or Silent night.
Oh Mys!!! I've never forgotten about you all!! It's good to be back- if only for a few minutes! Just had to steal away and getinto the Garden!!! Those are great caroles- too!!!
I also love Oh Come All Ye Faithful!!

(Just had to start a thread- better than starting trouble!! LOL!!)
Away in a Manger only thing is it makes me a little sad and i get choked up. FP
Silent Night for me!!
I'll be home for Christmas, O Holy Night & Hark! the herald angels sing.
Hey Tom Good to see you back.We missed you.I like those songs too.
O Holy Night, but only if the one singing it does it right. I hate when they sing it way too slow. I also love Angels From the Realms of Glory.
My favorite is an old Welsh carol.... "All Through the Night"... But several years ago I heard, "Sister Mary had But One Child", a black spiritual, which I loved although I have heard it but once. "O Holy Night" comes a close second....

Silent Night is my favorite, but I love hearing I saw three ships done by Sting. It sounds wonderful.
O Holy Night, and Ave Maria. Yes, the right singer is important; Soundgarden does a wonderful (really!) version of Ave Maria.
Forgot to mention another that I love, it too is a Black Spiritual...Sweet Baby Jesus Boy. It must be sung by the right person to appreciate the tune and words.
I had almost forgotten about Ave Maria and I Saw Three Ships! I love both of them and they bring back such memories. I need to go Christmas Music shopping if I have any money left over after finishing present shopping. LOL!
I'LL BE HOME FOR CHRISTMAS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITES BUT I LOVE THEM ALL!
We have a local radio station that started the day after Thanksgiving playing only Christmas music. We have it playing at the garden center. I get to hear so many that I had forgotten about.
Did anyone hear the "remake" of Silent Night that a radio producer did in CA? It has the music of Silent Night while he "narrates" a message regarding Sept. 11 through it. The tears just poured down my face. I'll have to try and find the words.
"Christmas Eve in Sarajevo" by Savatage and almost anything Christmas by Mannheim Steamroller.
This may not be considered a Carol..but I love
"Chestnuts Roasting on a open fire.."
I think it has a different name..maybe "The Christmas Song"
"I'll be home for Christmas" is my second fav.
Merry Christmas Carol aka Starzz
Can't believe I or anyone else hasn't mentioned "Greensleeves", just heard Mannheim do it and it has been my fav since I was about 12 or 13.
Okay, I forgot anything by the TransSiberian Orchestra! Great music. I used to be a huge Mannheim Steamroller fan, tiG, but now I can't listen to it. It all happened when I got the music for piano, and I was disillusioned by what I had previously thought was so clever. I used to tell people, oh, they take apart the old carols and put them together again and make them new... Oh well, they still have a few songs that I enjoy.
John, the TransSiberian Orchestra also does Christmas Eve in Sarajevo, did you ever see the video of the little girl in the snow conducting them?? Can't listen to that song without waving my arms, and standing up:)
There are so many good ones but one of my new favorites is 'Mary, did you know.' It is sung by Mark Lowry one of the Gaither Singers.
"Oh, Holy Night" and Kenny Rogers and Trisha Yearwood's "Mary, Did You Know"
"eyes"
The holly and the ivy" will do for me!
All Through The Night is also a favourite of mine as are O' Come All Ye Faithful, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen and oh so many others as long as they are sung properly (i.e not me singing)
Christmas in Killarney is my all-time favorite.
I also like Carol7.
Jim, you are a crazy nut. lol
So many ones you all have mentioned that even I forgot!! Especially the Black spirituals- so down to earth and straight from the heart!
For those into Manhiem.etc., you may want to try to pick up Phil Keaggy's Christmas CD he did a few years ago with the London Philharmonic Orchestra!!! No gimmicks on this one! Wonderful! Phil uses all of his guitars to play- great upbeat remakes of many and a few he wrote! It's called "Majesty and Wonder".
It put all of Manheim's to shame for me!

Love Phil Keaggy, will have to try and find it after the holidays though. Need to make a note to self:)
Bumping, mostly because this thread showed up on Google when I was searching for a song... and we have lots of new folks.
When I was a teenager (oh so long ago) I loved "What Child Is This" (to Greensleeves) -- followed by "Bring a Torch, Jeanette Isabella" (a French tune? why do I think this? does someone know French words to this?)... Maybe because I believed Isabella to be a variation of Elizabeth, my given name...
I heard Bring a Torch recently while at Michael's... realized I hadn't heard it in many years... do you all know why the music (or Muzak) in public places is so bad? Because ASCAP sends teams around to FINE THE OWNERS [big bucks, too] if they play decent tapes/CDs without paying individual royalties. I know this because it happened to my DB and SIL when they owned a restaurant a few years ago. Therefore the stores and restaurants must either play the radio (I think that's allowed) or make up their own soundtracks all of cuts without royalties... usually not the best, right?
Anyway. More recently, I like Chorus of the Bells (is that the right name?), Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring (not really a Christmas Carol, is it?), the Wassail Song, and the other Bell song, the one that goes, "I heard the Bells on Christmas Day". Some country singer does a version of that one, I think. I like them all (the versions that is).
My husband adores Handel's Messiah and plays it year'round. Of course, I believe it has more to do with the Resurrection (Easter) than Christmas, but it's usually performed at this time of year.
We also own several M.Steamroller, but I have to say I agree with the person who tired of them. I think I will get out some of the "Winter" releases from Wyndham Hill, though...
Thanks for reminding me, and HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

The Little Drummer Boy
Ava Maria sung byRussell Waston
I saw mommy kissing stanta claus by the Jackson Five( a bit corny--but i like lt((it's strange what the performer has grown up into)) )
Ava Maria & any of the Celtic Christmas songs
ChristmasCarolMusic.org is a wonderful resourse for Christmas music if you need words or sheet music. If you are in a chorale group, the music is sometimes in 2 to 4 part harmony.
Carol of the Bells, Friendly Beasts, has no one said Little Drummer boy. God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen is still my very favorite.
Spin, Bring a Torch is indeed French. I must have the French words around here somewhere.
And, since I am an old folkie, Go Tell it on The Mountain.
I'm with Windy and Frogrus....♫Little Drummer Boy♫ Jo
Any and all - can't pick just one....but I do like the traditionals....but one Christmas song I like that some may be familar with is from the movie "Home Alone" and it's called "Somewhere in My Memory".
And I guess my other real favorites are "Sleigh Ride" and "Merry Christmas, Darling".....
