I have been trying, off and on, for 2 years to find out something about a bunch of toys I have. The seem to be hand-painted rubber figurines, marked 'Germany' which I know is pre-WWII Germany because of the length of time I have had them.
All are comic book figures... Dick Tracy, Little Orphan Annie, Blondie (and her daughter), Olive Oyls baby: Sweet Pea, Snuffy Smith... even Pluto, Donald Duck, Dopey, etc. The tallest is about 2" tall...
I have spent hours and hours searching the Internet, to no avail. Anyone have any suggestions??
Any antique toy collectors here?
Sorry - can't help. Have you checked your yellow pages for some appraisers? I listen to a radio call in talk show every morning and they regularly have an appraiser on there where people call in and ask him about items they have. He is rarely stumped.
Neb Jewel... I have hesitated to hire an appraisal because of the cost. I just want to find out some information about them, then I can decide if an appraisal is worth it. Thanks.
If you want to e-mail me, I could give you the name of this person who does this work here in Lincoln. I don't think they charge anything to just give you an over-the-phone basic answer. It might be worth a long distance call and all they could do is say "no". Another option - we used to do a little antique collecting and sometimes I found the greatest info in the public library.
darius, there are many books with antique toys and old comic book's that list prices!!! my parent's use to own a coin and stamp shop and they had ton's of old comic book's like you mention in the store. You might check out a local coin shop to see if the have any comic book's or antique toy's (alot do). Also check on the net like maybe www.barnesandnoble.com they should also have books with old toys that list prices!!!!!! Don't be surprised at how much some are worth!!!!!!! I hope this help's!!!!
Good Luck!!!

I have Schroeder's price guide to toys and Hake's and couldn't find a thing on them. If they are so hard to find, I'm sure they are worth something though, especially if they were made in Germany. I'll try to keep looking for you
NJ and ruby32... I have spent many hours in the local libraries, in their reference sections.... to no avail. I have checked more Internet sites than I thought possibly existed... to no avail.
flowox... THANKS! If you turn up something, and they have some value, you will get a surprise gift from Me!!!! (Maybe even if they don't have any value, if you can just find them, LOL!)
The closest I hjave found is at Kovels, but no picture. Popeye, worth $850.00. In don't think it is the same, but it is a start!
What's that show on PBS that has all the antiques? Maybe you can contact them! I think it's called antique road show!!!!

Darius, good to see you again! Do you have any community colleges or universities that offer Recreational/Personal Interest courses in your area? Some may offer an antique course(s) and you could contact the instructor for a lead. If there aren't any in your area please let me know. There's two courses offered in the Richmond area starting in Jan and I'd be more than happy to send you the info so you can contact the faculty member teaching the course. I'd also like to hear how your trip to the Biltmore House went, so please drop me a line anytime. ;o) Carol
