How to stay young

 How to Stay Young

1. Throw out non-essential numbers.This includes age,weight and height.

2. Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull you down.If you really need a grouch, there are probably family members that fill that need.

3. Keep learning. Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever. Just never let the brain idle.

4. Enjoy the simple things. When the children are young, that is all that you can afford. When they are in college, that is all that you can afford.
When they are grown, and you are on retirement, that is all that you can afford!

5. Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath.Laugh so much that you can be tracked in the store by your distinctive laughter.

6. The tears happen. Endure, grieve, and move on.The only person who is with us our entire life,is ourselves.

7. Surround yourself with what you love, whether it is family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever. Your home is your refuge.

8. Cherish your health. If it is good, preserve it. If it is unstable, improve it. If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.

9. Don't take guilt trips. Go to the mall, the next county, a foreign country, but NOT guilt.

10. Tell the people you love, that you love them, at every opportunity.
Remember, Life is not measured by the number breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

I like this thread. I read an article about an 86 year old woman who stays busy. She had to give up stuff with her heart. Now that she had heart surgery she is chomping at the bit to get back to an active lifestyle. Have hobbies, stay active, maintain friendships....and I believe a sound spiritual life all help keep you young. Also looking at life thru the eyes of a child helps. Im having my second childhood raising my kids. It is cool. When my grandkids come along...I will have my third childhood...hehehe.

You left one off the list ..."don't have kids!!" :)

Oh, no Tim! Having kids only makes you older while they're teenagers. The rest of the time they KEEP you young. And once they're grown and out of the house, it's like having a second honeymoon!!

That is all wonderful advice! I run a senior citizens' mealsite program and I can tell you the seniors that stay active, mentally and physically, have a better quality and longer life. Even those that gave up driving have managed to use public transportation (provided by our county vans in our small town) to get to shopping, doctors and our program.
3 points of advice: 1)walk, walk, walk, and drink lots of water. This will build muscle, endurance, get more oxygen to the brain, make you feel energetic and good. 2) exercise your mind, whether it's learning a computer, hobby, or whatever. When you stop exercising your mind, some form of senility is sure to set in. 3) Eat low-fat and take vitamins especially the anti-oxidant ones (C & E) and gingko bilabo. They will hold back the cholesterol and gingko is the only thing still known that fights Alzheimer's Disease.
As Helen Hayes used to say, "if you rest, you rust."

Those are words to live by, take it from one who knows.... The busier I stay the younger I feel. It really is the little things in our lives that give us the most pleasure and joy and in turn we feel younger. If you don't your doing something wrong!
