I've been having trouble with DG running slow for me and chat has been impossible. Dave had no idea what could be the problem and I've been working with my ISP and things were a little better this week. Well, I just got off the phone with a supervisor who called to see if I was satisfied with the service and when I explained my problem,he sat down and WE GOT IT FIXED!!! Not being 'computer literate',I had no idea that you had to clean your cache out. When I told him the numbers in it,he just laughed and said we could fix this shortly. After walking me through the steps,I logged on and things are so smooth and fast,I'm beside myself! Those of you who are having this site run slow, you may want to try this .It worked for me. Can't wait to try chat and see if things are better there.

melody, what is a cache? and how do you clean it?

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

Way to go Melody. Can't wait to see you in chat. Farmgirl I am not good at explaining it so I will let GW or Dave or somebody that's more computer literate that can explain it better answer your question.I didn't want you to think I was ignoring you.

Farmgirl, I am with you honey! I have no idea what that is and I am thinking.."oh great, something else I have to clean up after"...

I couldn't get back there if I had to...I just know that I've got one now and I'll get the college kid across the road to come do it every now and then.At least there is a button that says to clean it.I know we were in the Control Panel and we got to it from there.

let me give it a shot in layman's term. Cache is a copy of data residing in the main memory of ur computer. each time u surf or use the computer, that memory builds up. since memory builds up, it slows the process of how the computer run.

clearing history & cache each night when u are finished with the computer help give u a 'fresh' start the following day. it does not hurt to defrag ur system either at least once a week. defrag clears empty spaces in the memory of the computer too, specially when u delete files off ur computer.

thanks WantabeGardener. one thing though, i do not think history & cache can be one and the same. i could be wrong. to play it safe, i clear both.

with all the viruses roaming around, now my tasks before i close the computer for the night includes: clean or clear the history & cache, scan the computer for viruses. i defrag the computer twice a week these days, since i do much research to help others on their dilemma. it may sound tidious, but i am assure each morning i turn on the computer, i know it will always run efficiently for me. hope this info help... ma vie

thank you everyone i think i will give it a try. my system does defragment once a week i think. i have it set on wizard so it does it for me. when ever i try to do something high tech. i end up ereasing everything. but i can surf i mean research all day. lol

farmgirl21,

there is no way u will erase anything when u clear/clean history or cache or even defrag for that matter. all u do is follow the steps. very simple steps ... ma vie
