Yup, agreed, besides, there comes a time when neglected crafts turn to sawdust, unfortunately...but then we have options we didn't have like an led lite and wiring. He thinks it may be pecan, not walnut, which I suspected, and its only as old as 66-67...I may get it done and may have to chunk it in the burn pile, Joe.

gorgeous photos everyone. yes lost skills are a real thing, Why I took up beekeeping. It's contagious, our local bee club went from 15 to 200 members after half of it split off. Hope you get the light to work Kitt.

I canned peaches while I was missing, and when I got done canning I sliced and froze peaches for cobblers this winter. Squash is doing well, BT injection for the SVB larva is a miracle worker.

Tomatoes are starting to set fruit. And my cockscomb celosia babies from last year seed are blooming!
Need to inject more BT before work in the morning, the race to attack the vines is heating up.

And the oak something asp that stung the daylights out of my leg a couple of weeks ago. I knocked him off with a stick, used tape to lift hairs, and soapy water, and took a benadryl. Let didn't swell up much.

peppers and peaches, yum. Only thing I've ever canned is jalapenos, only thing I get enough of to can. But didn't grow any this year.
Lamp will be nice, hope you post a pic once done.
Nice catches of the butterflies Ju.

I'm not doing too much in the garden but cutting things back some. Moved some gingers to a more sunny place. My pinecone gingers are looking good, got three this year, one fell over so gonna try using the shampoo they make.

Those are some funky pine cones Sherri. Jealous on the peaches Gypsi, I assume you grew those?

Fort Worth, TX

I did Keith. planted 2 peach trees in 2011, dogs killed one, best year yet for this one. I need to prune but not sure when.

Have monk parakeets stalking my pears today

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

Gypsi I have been watching thinking yummy My pears did not do well this year

Oxdrift, Canada

Congrats Gypsi. The closest I can come to that is a few raspberries for homemade raspberry jam. LOL

Magnolia, TX(Zone 9a)

I like the homemade raspberry jam, good stuff. I have helped can lots of stuff, but am in process of relearning. No sense canning what can be frozen, but I honestly think homes are designed now to NOT to have storage for that processing.
If rains have slowed I have flea beetles to poison and ants to reduce again. I will be glad to see a few less of those

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

Kitt Bugs are bad this year freeing is good with me also ,

Keith love raspberries ,good food ,

As said the nanking cherries , are good for my heart , and lower the cholesterol some ,

Fort Worth, TX

I skipped the native plant sale today. I fell on tuesday and pulled the connective tissues and muscles around my ribs, worked with a helper all week as I am on a 10 pound lift limit, the sale is donation only now and doesn't cover my supplies, and I am exhausted. so part of my potted and propagated perennials are staying here, the rest will be given away or sold. I'm dropping the group. Don't have time or the money to spend really.....

I knew after I got hurt that this was coming so some of the plants I installed here where we took the pond out, I propagated.

My spider lilies are back

The spider lilies are really exotic Gypsi. Beautiful

Fort Worth, TX

Spider lilies are the best thing about north Texas maybe. The rest of the weather and heat when they bloom just get to me. Thank you for the compliments. I traded on DG for the bulbs as I had to leave mine when I moved 17 years ago

Magnolia, TX(Zone 9a)

As much rain as I am getting, the lycoris aren't above ground here, the oxblood lilies have given up their blooming, the coral vines are at their very best right now...trying to deal with peppers, have to figure out what I am seeing so I can skin them better...after smoking them on the grill. More research to do, but worn down fast these days. Am enjoying your posts guys.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

me too! my kings mantle is just busting out blooming outside, I have to cut it back to bring it in. mums and marigolds and zinnias are the thing right now, as are the 4 o clocks. Those peaches look great! Joe's dad made everyone mantle clocks out of walnuts and other woods, Joe did not "pickup" his dad's love of woodworking.
We have so many peppers, just going to dry them and turn them into chili seasonings. Joe is grilling the big poblanos for me. This is the first year I did not buy spider lillies, and really I dont miss them as much as I thought. prolly cuz I am not out as much as I used to be....

edited to prevent a double post, also the plumeria and morning glory tree are at the place I work at, they are so tall they are almost too tall for the vaulted ceilings and sky light windows. I can't keep all the tropicals, so having a one day sale on a Thursday when it cools down.

no more fabulous basement garden Debra? I'll miss the pics, that's something else you had going on down there. I'm going to bring a few plants into the greenhouse this year but not as many, taking out the shelf and rearranging as soon as I recover from a minor flying incident. The landing hurt. Intercostals got stretched. But I didn't fall on the koi I was carrying.

No new pics out of the phone yet, fighting the leaf-footed bugs, squash bugs and svb for my winter squash, lost 2 vines, but the rest are holding on, one would have made it if I hadn't pulled it out thinking it was all dead. I've been injecting with bacillus thuringiensis and it has helped them live long enough to make buttercup, butternut, and actually my yellow summer squash is still alive.

Doesn't do a thing about squash bugs or leaf footed bugs though, they got the last one I think

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

I too will miss the pics .

Gypsi Glad the fall did not seriously hurt you . this year everywhere I read , bugs bugs , bugs , lots of them
Today I collected a small paper bag of Senna pods ,
I still have a lot to do I doubt I will get done , however some of it will be achieved

1 This was doing covers to thwart the ground hog ,
2 Black swallowtail butterfly bugs i enjoy
3 pink zinnia

Very healthy looking Zinnia Ju and nice black swallowtail. Here we're dumping pots and washing them up for next year. Expecting to receive my first seed catalogue any day.
Finished my bird feeder constructed from slabs from the local sawmill. Will start feeding as soon as we get some snow that stays.

wow, it's still summer here. Hope to upload pics tomorrow, I'm wiped out, we cleaned a small pond. Still have bills to pay. Injected BT into a couple of squash vines today, a few more days is probably all it will buy me. Squished a couple of squash bugs too.

I'm healing. All that time I spent at the gym with my daughter this year helped reduce the damage I think

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

Thank you Keith , lol At least the flowers from the garden make pretty pix even if the garden has not for a while
Like your bird house and feeder creations also , Love to see the birds come in winter
Gypsi , Staying active some workouts have probably saved you some distress once in a while

1Mingles contemplating nature and such
2 photo he moved as pix was taken , but his paws and such are visible clearly while he was still doing Buddha

Buddha bath! My exercises prevented MUCH worse injuries a few times. I hired help to help me put my pond back together today, we got a lot done. What is left is a uturn of the bottom liner to keep it pointed upward so accumulated rain water will be carried off to the sides and not get trapped between top and bottom liner. Fish are still in the greenhouse tank but we made a bit of progress. Both liners are in, and underlayment below them should help prevent future rat damage The rest of the stone can go on when I have rat and rain water protections on (the back wall stone will be coming off for the u turn. Upper basin is almost fully rebuilt, I need to check the water height on the west end and maybe adjust height.

Baby chicks, my broody bailed and my incubator worked. 2 of the 3 were strong and healthy, the one that couldn't quite hatch on his own only lived a couple of days. These are getting some feathers and eating and drinking well. Mama wouldn't raise them but at least she didn't kill them.
What is my flower, I forgot.
Butterflies loving pear nectar.
Helper brought her goat over when she helped me demo the pond (pulling down walls, etc) happy little goat cleared about 10 feet of hackberry growing through my chain link.

Marigold. Looks like the cockscomb that died left me gifts - in the rosemary pot. Volunteer dill, cilantro sprouted, parsley and fennel coming back. Ah, Mexican mint marigold in bloom, oregano harvested to dry. Trimmed back sweet tater vine getting ready to sow oats for the housepets, removed the tomato wirecages, and looking for next spot to stick onions.

It is almost onion time, and broccoli time

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

wow, that pond looks like a real job!
Great pics of flowers, Ju and Mingles is as always, entertaining.
Gypsy, hope the two chicks make it on their own okay.
Cool bird station, Keith ! In tween work and work, drama w/ grown children, and the bathroom remodel ( will it ever be done? ) I have managed to get plants hauled downstairs, as there is never enough time to have that dang sale. Freeze a comin' this weekend, still have a brug in ground, An upright EE, and a huge Oleander and Kings Mantle outside. Considering all that WAS out there, and all that is in now, I am really happy. I'll take pics when I get it all "arranged"
I am in shock because the detailed bill I got from the hospital for my spinal injection cost almost 4k, and lasted a whole ten days! Robbery!
Phlox re-blooms if u dead head it... evening primrose grows more blooms if u cut it off, some kind of hairy aster, thought it was a weed, pulled so much up and cut it back, but it still came back and bloomed, eupatorium is always in bloom in October, kings mantle and brugs awaiting to be brought in..

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Still have so much blooming, pepper plants are taller than me, so is the frostweed... hoping to see ice sculptures from them. Carribia Rose is blooming, morning glorys everywhere..4 o clocks are all in bloom, marigolds of all kinds and sizes. I am not ready for winter. period.

I am not ready either, first steps to get bees ready same day I picked the last buttercup squash. I really enjoyed my cattle panel, now I have to get the flame vine and incense passionflower into the green house.

Less than a week between a.c. and heat?

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

Debra , really really nice pix , of the flowers , Only about 33 degrees here tonight so I will be looking for final seeds from plants tomorrow , Maybe , depends on if it warms up tomorrow ,

Kitt I have trouble trying those hot sunny weather plants here now , Trees and half day shade is giving me difficulty with that ,

I am trying to finish some projects and I will probably be outside in the cold cleaning up anyway ,

Oxdrift, Canada

Beautiful pics Debra. So sorry to hear about your health bill and spinal injection sounds painful too.
We have a foot of snow but it probably won't stay as we have some above zero temperatures coming

Anderson, IN(Zone 6a)

Debra I was thinking the idea of the Spinal makes my back hurt hearing about it ,
I hope your better though ,, still make me shudder

Hi Keith

Hi ya Gypsi

Fort Worth, TX

That spinal doesn't sound like fun for sure. Hope you are feeling better and once your babies are in the basement I'll bet they are good therapy. It's the getting there. I'm going to probably pull my pepper plants in the garage Monday, winter temps but no freeze, maybe I will leave them out. Down to 2 Dahlias...

Smooth blue aster is a popular plant. Monarch pics when I unload the camera.

Are they going to be having a photo contest this year? Keith?

Hi Gypsi. Is that 3rd pic a type of Swallowtail? As far as I know there will be another contest this year. When I had the long conversation with Tyson in the spring he was speaking of changes they would make in how they send out the calendars to the winners. Instead of having Zazzle ship them out direct they are having them all sent to Dave's and then they will ship them on to us. They still had the smaller County Fair contest in late summer and I put more entries in that this time. I got a couple of wins in that so I have another monstrous coffee cup on the way. One of those in the morning is plenty of coffee for anyone LOL.

Fort Worth, TX

It is a giant swallowtail, the same one just a better view than the first 2. I didn't know what the County Fair was, and I didn't look. Photos of produce?

Winter Springs, FL(Zone 9b)

Gypsi, Nice shot of the Giant Swallowtail, I usually see more here, but not so many this year. The spider lilies are beautiful, and so is your neat garden. Hope you heal up from your fall, ouch.

Keith, love the bird feeder, very nice work. I'll have to go look at the county fair contest photos, I missed seeing that. Congrats on winning.

Ju, I have a cat that sits like that too. Hope you get all you need to done, your cold weather came up fast this year.

Debra, all your flowers are so pretty, I have Kings mantel and usually blooms more in the cooler months than the warm months. Sorry about the hospital bills, amazing how much procedures cost, hope it did some good and back better. I too can't wait to see the basement this winter.

Kitt, you sure got a lot of herbs going, Doodles is a great helper. The many months of rain this summer did in my herbs.

Not going to do winter vegetables this year, I was gone too much in September to start anything. Have a week trip in Oct, Nov and Dec, so just taking a break this year.

Fort Worth, TX

Well Sun, I'm just putting in broccoli seeds, swiss chard seeds and probably some onion sets in the next few days, and that is my winter garden. Might seed some spinach. I'm on the lazy list this year but we do have the rain to start the seeds.

Emptied the Olympus this morning. We took a pond out of this yard, the waterfall went up the retaining wall, and put in sod and perennials. Not something I normally do, but my young lady helper is more of a gardener than the guys so it was easier on me, except this is where I fell. She had a lot of little surfaces just before that concrete. Before picture is last.

Keith, I went to the County fair contest and you really have some great photos. I love how you put the canned pickles in front of the dill weed. What a great birdhouse, you're certainly creative, and your containers are some of the most beautiful I've ever seen. You could be on the cover of Better Homes and Gardens with those. :-)

Looks so great Gypsi, what a difference from before, had to be a lot of work, good thing you have help.

Fort Worth, TX

I just searched Country Fair and couldn't find it, I think I missed it.

Cats really want in the kitchen, now they have a place

Thank you for the positive comments Sherri!
Gypsi, try this to find the County Fair Contest. After login click on Communities then at the far right click on Contests. Since it was the last contest it will be the first to pop up. Nice pond job by the way
