Sacrificial lamb ?

southeast, NE

We raise sheep. This evening I had a family stop and they wanted to buy a lamb to give to an Indian friend. I had a hard time hearing everything they were saying cause our dog kept barking. If I understood correctly, their Indian friend wanted the lamb as a religious custom. They slaughter it and keep a third, give a third to the poor and I couldn't hear what happened to the other third. Anyway, we don't have any lambs to sell at this time but I was just curious as to this custom. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? This is the 2nd call we've received in the last two weeks looking for a lamb for an Indian family.

Just a wild thought - Since this is the time of Ramzan, (presuming that the family belongs to the muslim community),that may be part of their custom. ??

Thanks for the info. This is the 3rd person of a mideastern descent that has approached us in the last month about buying a lamb. We sold some feeders about a week before our first inquiry. If we had known we could have sold fat lambs this time of the year, we would have waited.
