Why do you put your onions in jugs? Or do you put jugs Over onions for freeze protection?
Propagation efforts and results ( the basics) Dec ,
Gypsi Field Mice , Voles , cat and dog poop , and freeze protection , jug to cover new sets and seeds
well that answered my question. the plants are in the ground then?
You have critters that eat green onions? At least those blasted squirrels don't eat my onions, whew! Not sure about anything else comin thru other than that red tailed hawk. My son in law said he saw 4 dead possums on the way to work - on our road, but not in same place, he gets aggravated at them tearing up insulation.
Gypsi their sitting in the jugs in a tray outdoors ,where they will grow ,
Kitt the dig them up more than eat them , but the seeds on sprouts , some roots , the critters go for ,
I've used milk jugs to cover my seeds, critter control, mostly dig them up, squirrels and armadillos mostly.
I like the pot of Sempervivum!
Moles burrow under, but the onions dont uproot - they are in a shallow square with metalcloth under it. Rabbits are now blocked by a temp fence of same. I figure the squirrels to be going after my earthworms... reminds me, time to go scatter my coffee grounds. Tomatoes are still outdoors tho its cooler today since the rain. (I like all the pix). Hmmm, need to bring more dirt in...
Kitt I like all the pix also . your tomato seedlings are delightful
Sun there is a group of those sempervivum on top also but they need reset ,they have sank into the pot
Be a while before I can show any blooms
no pics here, but feel warmer seeing all yours...
Debra when it ceased raining I planted some senna from you I will plant more as my knees adjust to outdoor gardening
I think the plant I don't remember is a Fleabane and a Lamb's Ear growing together
I am hoping for more Butterflies and bees and this year , Not many last season ,
Moved a Penstemon today and I have a White phlox to move , not sure of the phlox , does not like moving
See here 50 some degrees and i am getting excited for nice weather
Not sure of all those Echinacea sprouts last fall hoping ,
Too early to check those seeds I scattered, tho more than half my tomato seeds were up in 4 days. Did nuthin today but read, handful dishes and will prob pay for it later. I did notice the amaranth and cilantro I had started indoors and stuck in the ground the other day are still doing great. Got into 70's today- I personally think mosquitoes grow overnite.
it was cold and rainy here today and I caught the grandkids cold. Was going to put out inoculated clover in my front lawn, and Asclepius tuberosa in pots for the plant sale and other places, echinacea and other wildflower seeds in between regular beds. Ran daughter rescue mission.
Planting tomorrow, more rain and warmer

Raining here still steady ,, Last night I planted some Verbena seeds and lillium seeds
The lillium seedlings I had last fall I have not checked on
I need some sunshine for my snapdragons , no lights and disarray my snaps are getting stringy Still alive though I would of set them outside yesterday if I had thought to ,
I'm still looking at sheets of frozen sleet every where here... lol///// keep posting pics. first day of sun in a week right now. Wonder how Robin and
Jen are?
Hi juhur7 Snapdragons self seed in my garden and even in my containers. Try sowing the seeds in fall outdoors and it will be easier. Since both of us are in the same zone and the plants are stronger and they transplant very well.
Cytf ,, Mine rarely survive outside I have had a few perennial types that self sowed a few but never a plant returned ,
Maybe only the difference is place ,
I think these all self seed on the Sothwast side of my garden and that's the most sunny side of my yard.
A little plant food , a little more sun , and my stringy snaps will perk up ,
well I got a big bag of bermuda grass roots to the curb and about 20 square feet of crimson clover and horse mint to feed the bees. And the bees are working the elm and oak trees for pollen. They say it's spring. Trying to get my garden in. First blooms on my redbud tree, and I hatched a butterfly somehow. Cocoon overwintered in the flowerbed. Bought myself a Coral Bell, forgot to cover for freezes, it sat out in a pot and lived, planted it. Miniature rose sprouting out, Stuff to get in the ground. Chard and Broccoli. Not there yet
Bradford pears in full bloom here. My tomatoes are crying for stronger light, but I still 3 x more gray days than sun. They barely fit under the light, but spend more time outside. I was weeding, hard to separate that tiny mondo grass from the weeds... after I was cleaning the bed at front of house, we changed the border since the 15 yr old cedar posts were falling out, saw two small snakes deep brown red vipers, prob copperheads, half as big around as my little finger. Guess I will be collecting those small plants from there to lower some dirt.... Kit ten (Doodle) decided he was old enough to spend the night out alone, chuckl, but he wasn't happy it rained all night and all day today. Has been yowling like a brat at us all day, chuckl. Some sun tomorrow hooray!

Tucker , looks like okay lets get to it , the garden and better weather , looking expression like , are you ready ,
Cute fellow ,
Nicer day here ... only a few trees budding here ,
My short day got long, going to the garden before the sun sets. That Doodle is a giant Kitt. Winter jasmine looks very nice, any idea if it will grow in Texas? Or is it what I know as Carolina Jessamine?
Thanks, Juhur, Tucker likes the mild weather we've been having.
Gypsi, that picture was the witch hazel, not the jasmine. I didn't photograph the jasmine but Jasminum nudiflorum is suppose to be hardy to zone 9 so maybe. It can be unruly. It roots everywhere it touches the ground and no smell.
I was wishing for the jasmines I saw bloomimg when I went to get groceries, need to visit a nursery and check on possible additions to the flower ranges I have.
Kitt, this one is for you. This morning we had the flashiest what my Dad used to call "sun dogs" that i have ever seen in my life. Since I'm not sure that is the proper name for them I better explain. It just looks like someone took a paintbrush with rainbow colours and put a brushstroke on each side of the sun. Unfortunately I was driving my wife to work so I wasn't able to get a picture. If you get those in your part of the world can you tell me what that is supposed to mean in terms of upcoming weather. My Dad is no longer around to ask.. I can't say that I have ever seen proof in either written material or the Weather Network that that is the proper terminology.
Like this Keith? https://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2009/01/090115-sun-dogs-weather-photo.html.
Pretty ones here: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=sun+dogs+photos&t=ffsb&ia=images&iax=images&iai=http%3A%2F%2Fupload.wikimedia.org%2Fwikipedia%2Fcommons%2F8%2F88%2FFargo_Sundogs_2_18_09.jpg

We were suppose to get rain today. Got snow about a mile West but no rain, but no sun.
I tried to burn the house down today. I put a pot on the stove with hummer food. I forgot it and was reading something on my laptop. I kept smelling something hot and finally Vern, who was nearer the kitchen, called out my name. I looked up and he was surrounded by smoke. Just then the smoke detectors went off. The dogs were fine but the two cats went wild. When I opened all of the doors, the cats ran. They are now back and the pot is in the garbage.
Kitt, my cats, one at a time, have stayed out but they have realized that is not wise.
I have a plant I purchased a year ago because it was variegated. It loves the cool weather and takes the heat in the shade. I had no idea it bloomed. Now my neighbor wants the name. Any ideas?
Keith, have you gone to Laughlin yet ?
Loretta, Tucker is a doll.
Gypsi, that is so much work. I feel for you because I have done the same thing.
JU, summer will come this year. I promise. Waves on Lake Michigan are frozen again this year.
Thanks Gypsi. For some reason I couldn't open the first link. The photos in the second are the right idea however the ones we saw today were more like very vivid sections of rainbow with all the colors rather than just white light. I see they are truly called sun dogs.
Sharon, Laughlin isn't until the end of March. Thank goodness you caught that fire when you did. That could have been disastrous

SUNDOGS, Parhelion (plural) rainbow round the sun, hexagonal plate like crystals of ice, I think they are a forewarning of ice storms but, Norwegian is bungled up in my memory of that phenom. Sharon I am leaning toward Oriental lily - spring bloomers die back in summer. The leaf is throwing me, but I know of no hosta that would look like that...I didn't get the first link either...
Down here we have both the fragrant Carolina Jessamine and the non fragrant one, I want the stinky one, chuckl.

Sharon they sold those here last year or before , My Mom got one for mother's day .
It has a really long difficult name to pronounce , I think it is a member of the Begonia family possibly the Poinsettia family which it 's behavior nearly resembles ,
The plant has nickname like Fire witch , I thought that while you were telling the Hummingbird nectar story , Glad your all okay
We have had that happen here , I could tell you muffin and cookie stories , and replacing ovens , I have carbonized an occasional burger myself , or toast ,,
Birds are singing again here ,,
It only takes 20 years to fully evict Bermuda grass there isn't anything to now inside the fence on the lot
I have to watch myself or I will wander off and leave pots at full heat. Mowing is about to start here. All weeds, but more cheerful than cold winter days. I hope I didnt overtrim that Sago, but I think it needed done. Free sown flower seeds coming up after the last few days of rains, and now 76* and a day of sun. Already throwin out the snail candy to help the sprouts survive The Horde.
What is snail candy?
And it is now March, started a new thread
