copyright message placement

If I ask something will you promise not to count it against my total posts????? oh, come on!!
Anyway, wantabegardener just posted a photo and the copyright is right in middle of pic. Is there anyway you can fix this, it's a picture of one of our members. Is there any rhyme or reason where it puts it, cause this one is right in middle of picture.

That's two questions, can I fix an existing image, and how is the location of the message determined.

1. Once the message has been placed, it cannot be moved or removed. This is the beauty of the message, it's a permanent part of the image. I cannot fix it, because I do not keep a "clean" copy of the image on my system. As soon as someone uploads a picture to DG, the system takes the clean image, places the copyright message, and then removed the clean image.

2. How is the placement determined? Here it is:

I look at the width and height of the image. I subtract 300 pixels from the width, and 30 pixels from the height, and that is the placement of the beginning of the text.

So, an image that is 640x480, the text will begin at 340x450. This 99% of the time results in the watermark being at the bottom right hand corner of the image.

Now, when someone uploads an abnormally sized image (like, for example, 1056x981), it confuses the system, because it cannot divide by 2 to reach an even number. Hence, we end up with floating point numbers, to which an image may not be converted.

Ergo, we're stuck with a mark in the right place (supposedly), but the image was not properly resized down, hence the watermark appearing smack dab in the middle of the image.

I've seen it happen at least three times so far, and it's on my TODO to figure out a way around this.

The solution if you don't want this to happen: Make sure your images have an even number of pixels in the width and height.

Yep, I can change the subject of a thread. I usually only exercise that right in this forum (the DG forum), to make it more descriptive, so I can easily locate issues at a later date.

Usually I do it to threads that have the subject of "Dave... question?". Those I rename to the actual question. :)

Hey, that kind of brings a question to my mind. Didn't I read somewhere, that something had changed here, that would make all photos the same size and also allow photos, not saved as jpeg to be posted? Or is that something that is going to happen later? I am sure I read that somewhere. :)
