bbbrrrrrrrrrr........!!
Oh Eyes,I'm soo sorry' DH is trying to get through Tx. now in the big truck, slow going, accidents everywhere' Fox News says we've been warned that the "enemy"is now targeting our natural fuel(utilities)if our troops don't back down' This may seem like a heat wave before winter is over' We're in the teens now and flurries anytime' Sending prayers your way so try to stay warm' Sis'
And here in central New York(where we expect weather like that) it's in the 40's and heading for the 60's on the weekend. go figure....
And here i the mts of Pa raining and 54 whic is unusual for us this time of year.
Eyes, we got a little of it last night, and my trusty old phone line went out like it always does when there are more than 5 drops of moisture in the air. It's fixed now, obviously, and I finally got a repairman who normally works on puter lines and he admitted it was the old line causing all the problems. So it just got replaced. I feel for you with the space heaters. My wiring trips circuit breakers when I have to use them enough to actually make the house comfortable. I think this is supposed to clear up and get a little warmer by Friday, hope for you it does. Hugs help, so from central TX; ((((((EYES))))))
Just heard from another Garden Friend in TX, she has 5 inches of snow! Is that possible? It is in the 60's here today on NJ at the Shore. Trying to enjoy it while it lasts. John
Hi Neighbor! It's in the 52's here in Sulphur, Lousiana.. It is thundering, raining, windy.. So far I know we won't get cold or freeze around here..
((eyes))
Send that ice and snow up my way. It looks icky around here without the ice glazed on the trees or snow on the ground or the icicles on my waterfall at the creek. Wanna trade homes for awhile?
brad_cj, I just got around to seeing your photo on your home page, and you three make a beautiful family. Every member handsome.
How close are you to Abliene TX? I have a friend that lives there, and I haven't heard from her, so who knows if she is snowed in??
As for me here in Ga, we are having a very warm November, with temps in the high 70's! I have been wearing shorts! I just hope that when we do get our cold weather that it wont be too bad! These temps are NOT normal for us eaither.
eyes I feel for you - I do hope you get some more heat soon. I saw what awful weather Texas was having and could hardly believe it!! Sis, sorry about you DH being held up like that, but better indoors somewhere than on the road. It must be near impossible driving in those conditions. You're all in my thoughts and prayers :-)
The interstate (84) is closed here in NE Oregon today for about 150 miles because of blizzard conditions. Lots of truckers sleeping till it reopens, tomorrow night at the earliest is my guess since snow and wind are forecast for tomorrow as well. I'm glad I don't have to go anywhere. Winter is here I am quite sure of it.
You all know what the Bible says about the end of time??? Maybe soon?
We got the ice and cold over this way too, eyes. And as a special bonus all the electricity went out here in town and all the way to Mountain Springs for about 6 hours. This is my first winter with my new greenhouse and I've been installing electricity and heaters getting ready for these things. AND THE ELECTRICITY WENT OUT!!!!! All my babies and beloved plants were sitting out there in 25 degrees. I did not go out to see the carnage and also didn't want to open the door for letting the cold in. Finally, about 7 tonight all the lights in town came back on. Had some hyper electrical workers driving in droves back and forth through town all day. I immediately went to the greenhouse, feeling very sad at what I was going to find. But (thank you God) the temperature had held. The ice had formed a dense sheet on the greenhouse plastic and insulated it. Nothing was damaged and they all looked quite content. I was so happy! But it was a nice afternoon. When it got too dark, I lit candles and kerosene lamps and my husband and I played dominoes. Makes you appreciate the modern life I must say.
KEEP THE FAITH SEEDPICKER' We were married in LV,Nv.35yrs ago, everyone said it wouldn't work, lol' We lived on the San Andreas Fault Line and now in Tornado Alley,we're happy' Yes we do well know what the Bible says and know that it is out of our hands' God Bless you' Sis'
And my birthday is the 13th,lol,my friends call me lucky'
Eyes, I certainly hope you get heat soon. It is also 28 degrees here right now and tomorrow we are supposed to get the snow, sleet and freezing rain.Every winter we lose our power but up here where it is cold and snowy all winter we have a woodstove and 5 cords of wood. Also have oil heat but can't use that when the electricity goes out.I hope that everyone that is on the roads makes it home safe and sound.
Eyes, hope everything going ok over there? Here, Still thundering, raining and in the 45's. IT is so cold.... The ground are wet as sponge! ENough of Rain!!
Sending prayers to all of you experiencing bad weather. Lantana, I'm so happy your plants made it through the power cut. It would have been an awful start with your new greenhouse and bitty1 I have been in your situation, but only once and I ended up in the hallway with a huge comforter around me and my three cats. That was a horrible experience. My greatest fear is that a window is blown in and my cats run outside and get lost!! Eyes, are you OK now??
Last night I was watching my heart hrob (Garth) at Padre Island, TX and it was sleeting there - looked strange watching the sleet blowing the palm trees. I will send positive thoughst to all of you buried in snow and ice. We've been in that position several times - we have two back up generators - one for the well so the critters get water and one for the house. Four years ago a major snow/ice storm hit this area and broke a lot of electric lines. We were without electricity for close to a week and those generators sure were a blessing.
I'm fine guys....extra covers..layered clothing helps alot!
Jason should be here soon with the blower switch replacement. The roads are treacherous.....hubby has to cross over Lake Ray Roberts to get to work at the bank...so I made him take my truck.....got to take the kids to school at 10 am in the Nissan........slip, sliding away.....
Abilene got a lot of snow...it really blasted them in the panhandle and west of DFW......then treked it's way NE over us......

This computer will do me in yet! Last night I was sitting here happily surfing away, and interrupted myself to go downstairs for nature call. Just in time to hear the telly announce the temperature in G'town was 28! It wasn't supposed to hit that early or go that low. I realized too late that the pipes which had been protected by the old back porch are now exposed and old back porch is no more. So, of course, my pipes were frozen. I went outside in the freezing rain and covered the ones I could with bags from the readymix, said a prayer over the plants in the east shelter, then ran back in. Chilled to the bone, that wind being bent on homicide. By the time I awoke, the sun was shining brightly and water was dripping off the house, so I knew the pipes should be thawed soon. They were. The poor plants were covered with ice, so I don't know what's left. The good thing about living in Texas is the fickle bad weather is short lived, except for summer heat.
Aimee......last night was supposed to be the worst of it....high in the upper 50's today and into the lower 60's from there. That's the treacherous part of Texas weather...
it rolls in with a vengence, laying in devastating blows in a matter of hours....and disipates just like that! BTW, heater is now up and running.

EYES, POOR YOU! HERE IS NOW 39 DEGREES COLD REALLY HATE TO GO OUTSIDE THAT KIND WEATHER, HATE WINTER! BBBBBBRRRR~
I LIKE SEASON IS SPRING AND FALL AND SUMMER!!!

Not sneezing from that hazard, just from the usual allergies this time of year. Amazingly, nothing froze. Or not hard enough to kill it, not even the Norfolk Islands with ice on their branches yesterday morning. I think I've been babying these guys too much.
Here, in western NC in the mountains, we generally have snow before now. But, it had been nearly 70 degrees daytime temps, and above freezing at night.
I HATE to think what this winter will REALLY do to us when it comes! We have had a few frosts, but I still have a bloom or two on my roses and on a couple of other things. Usually a warm Fall means a winter colder than a witches *** in Jan, Feb and March here.
Pray for all of us IF Terrorists manage to hit supply lines (elec, gas and oil) and be Thankful for all who have an alternative means (woodstove or methane digester or whatever) of survival, for they (including me) WILL open doors to help those without heat.
I'm NOT being a FEAR monger, just prudent.
We should all be so aware. I have the most efficient fireplace I've ever seen, but don't usually use it since I installed ch/ca a few years ago. But I'm always spotting fallen trees and branches in the pasture in case I need to use alternative means. I keep old kerosene lamps in what appears to be decorative roles, but they are functional and ready. I even have a couple of old bow saws in case the need arises and I can't use the chainsaw. It's a good feeling to know my poor childhood prepared me for adversity.
Aimee, I agree. I still have an old 2 person saw... just in case I ever need it! I guess our 'poor' beginnings have held many of us in good stead for preparedness, if it should ever come to that. (Except, I cannot make soap!) I, too, have kerosene lamps, and lamp oil... and even some kerosene, which smokes more than I'd like if we use it in the lamps. Hard to read by, tho'... LOL!
I took out our fireplace this year, and installed an efficient woodstove... no mean feat, but worth the effort. Last year, our gas bill ran over $300/mo. and so far, just summer rates, thanks to the new stove. Even with buying firewood, it's still a LOT cheaper, and our new woodstove has such low emissions that I have NO guilt about the environment. If I weren't a 61 year old woman, I'd probably cut my own firewood, but as long as I can pay someone to do it, I'm satisfied. My mother and I have a friend, female and 84, who still splits her own firewood. She doesn't cut it, of course (her nephews do) but she splits it for her wood cookstove, and her heating stove.
Maybe we would have enough soap to get by until the crisis passed, if we bail out all the little bars in suitcases and way back in the back of the closet and in drawers for fragrance. But I think one Foxfire book might have instructions. And again, there are things you can use instead of soap, if I can just remember, because soap is made of the commonest ingredients. I did hate that old harsh yellow soap my grandmother made. And I don't know if you would be able to get the stuff for making it in really bad times. Maybe we need to lay in a supply. I didn't realize you were so near my age, but you might remember a lot of the same things. Back when almost everybody was poor, if for no other reason than the war.
