Hi all. Great forum and a first post for me.
I live in Gloucester, England and for many years I have watched a tree develop in my back garden. It was planted some 20 years ago but I forget to label it. It is at this time of year that an amazing blue blossom appears but it is short lived.. only 2 or 3 weeks at most. Friends have suggested it is a Californian Lilac but the leaves on mine are quite pointed so I am not sure. Of course there are many varieties out there so I should not discount that. Here are the pics and if anyone can idently this I would be delighted. Happy gardening all. John
Blue Blossom tree
I'd agree that it is a Ceanothus sp. of some sort.
You could also post your question and images over on the Plant Identification forum, where many more astute ID minds participate.

That's such a wonderful blue.
I agree. Look up Ceanothus arboreus 'Trewithen Blue' to see if it matches for you.
Many thanks guys and gals !
And I think it has to be a Ceanothus arboreus 'Trewithen Blue' even though mine has pointy and quite thin leaves.
Cheers !
John
