Morning Glories 2017 #02

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Thanks Helena and Linda.
Helena, yours will be setting buds b4 you know it. It pretty much'always takes at least 8 weeks for mine to bloom. Every once in a while, I;ll have one bloom in 6 weeks.
Wish we could come up with a series of mg;s that bloom in 4 weeks. :-)

Gautier, MS

I really need to start fertilizing my mgs Jackie. The waiting for blooms is hard. It's a beautiful day here, warm with just a bit of wind. I took out some of my salvias and morning glories and am letting them get some sun and be outside. I'll be putting them back in the gh by evening, it's still too cool at night for them to stay outside.

Found these pictures of my mgs from 2013 on FB.

Beautiful mg's Helena. # 1 looks like one you shared with me I grew in 2015.
# 2 looks like Xiongs Chinese possibly. The last 2 are lovely too..I was thinking of Incredible Blue Blizzard for # 1 but maybe not. i want to grow one of them this yr,
Incredible Blue Blizzard
Ebays Plum Purple Velvet or Emmas, not sure which. My sd did not come true
from these sd.

Beautiful blooms ladies!

Gautier, MS

Thanks Jackie. Love your blooms, that purple plum velvet is gorgeous. Crazy about it.. It's quite disappointing when seeds don't come true though.

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Thanks ladies. Helena the bees got to my blooms b4 me I guess.
It didn;t do me a bit of good to try and hand pollinate. Just too much work to tie the blooms up with netting to prevent the bees from doing the deed.
I'll try to start a couple of the lovely Plum Purple velvet this spring to see what it makes this time,.

Gautier, MS

Your right Jackie, to do it right would be a lot of work. I hope you do try to grow the plum purple velvet again. I have some seeds that have dark blooms too that I'm going to grow too.

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Looking forward to your dark blooms Helena. I love your
Black King blooms.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

man I have missed a lot of beautiful blooms here. Love the third pic, Tony, that is a great bloom. I thought that looked like queen aes lace, too, Helena. Jackie your blooms are always pretty, ad the rogue purps always seem so cheerful to me.
I had to reverse the retirement and accept the lower hourly wages.. I have bee asked to come back at a reduced wage, but cat retire o this fiscal year because i am over the limit, and they want me to stay, just for less money. So be it. I am oa hourly 40 hr a week gal for another year. *sigh* if only we could retire with out having all these rules and regulations. I am jst tired of it all. it has been a roller coaster but I take great pleasure in coming home to you. I would get on from work but am still blocked on the new network, I am going to ask my IT guy to fix it, tho. I had a big beautiful blue i nil with white center this am, but o camera before I left. I did get some shots of babies and they don't look as good as Helena's.
JACKIE YOUR NUMBER 3 LOOKS LIKE THAT kOHKAN WE GREW. oops stupid caps lock. this is the blue that is blooming, and a few other blooms now I have showing.

Sorry to hear you had to take a cut in pay Debra.

Love your blooms.

Gautier, MS

I'm sorry too Debra that you have to work another year and lower wages.
Beautiful blooms, love all of them.
My vines are kind of taking off and I really need to concentrate on getting them into bigger pots. Still want to start lots more seeds too.
Here's one from last year that I'm not going to grow this year!

Thanks Debra. Maybe it will work out that you can retire next yr or do
a partial retirement.
Love your blooms, crazy about your Thunbergia.
# 3 might be Kohkan. If I go to my library, I might have given it a name.
Just haven't had time to look.
So behind and still trying to finish my taxes.
Helena, a shame you;re not going to grow that lovely mg. So pretty with the muted color/colors. But I understand, we have tons waiting to be started. Overwhelmed here too just thinking about it,

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

My Camellia blooming for a week now.
This strange looking bloom should be Blue Lavender Beauty.
Its not as lite as my pic makes it look but still not looking anything like it should.

Love those camelias. And that morning glory is beautiful!

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Thanks Linda.

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Has anyone heard from Helena.?
Very strange for her to go 4 days without posting.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

No, I have not heard anything.
Praying she is OK!

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Me too Linda. A lot of flu going around.

Gautier, MS

Hey ladies. Sorry I went missing, really didn't realize it's was for that many days. I've been trying to do yard work with the weather being so warm. A couple of hours a day and I got worn out. Yesterday I got more of my mg into bigger pots, take some out to get sun too. I decided I take a chance and placed some outside next to the house for some protection. I even started soaking some more mg seeds.

Beautiful blooms Jackie. Love your camellia and mg bloom. It's spring here off and on, blooming in my yard. Anyone recognize the last plant, not sure if it's cucumbers or ???

Hey Helena, glad to see you posting.
Your blooms are beautiful. I don't know what the last picture is.

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Lovely Roses and Azalea Helena. I don't recognize'the last plant either.
Sounds like you got a lot accomplished.
I finished my taxes finally.

Gautier, MS

Thanks Linda and Jackie.
Glad you got your taxes done Jackie.
Still too much yard work left to do, as long as I garden it will never be done.
So thankful we got some good rain last night, turned cool this morning.

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Helena, my back yard is a total disaster. Its 'so bad I;m ashamed for
people to see it.
Been in the 60's and 70's here but dipping down in the 50's by this coming weekend and into next week.
Trying to do a little spring cleaning b4 I start gardening.
Kroger already has ferns for sale.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Love that bloom you are not planning on growing., Helena. planted some of your seeds last week. Spring is really kicking in your neck of the woods.
jackie if you want a rooted cutting of thunbergia let me know, blooming now..
that last few pics are what i found when i went out for a few minutes before the wind came. we ar surrounded by fires here in Kansas losing lives over 80 homes and 2000 head of cattle. it is still on going and I feel helpless. nanking cherry, ad a NOID under the pear tree, my rooter place, it is a fish tank with a drop in basket i found it fit perfectly.

Thanks Debra but don;t worry about sending me a Thunbergia. I killed the'last 2
I grew, It deserves a better fate than me. So tragic about the wild fires
Love your blooms.

Gautier, MS

Jackie, I feel the same about my yard. If it wasn't for gardening I wouldn't have so many pots all over the place, ugh...
Beautiful blooms Debra. Sorry about all the wild fires, I did hear it on the news yesterday about them.
Look at this neat leaves on one of my mg vines, it's only on the first set of leaves.
It seems like we are in spring for sure with still a few days of very cool weather.
Roses and wisteria blooming. Bottle brush too, had my first hummer yesterday.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

those leaves are awesome, Helena. WOW. I wish my wisteria would bloom. I am chopping it down for good if it doesn't. Love that bottle bush. My sweet almond, spireas, cherry bushes and daffs are all blooming. what a weird short winter . My weekend at home this weekend, and it will be too cold to go out and clean up the beds yet. Still dipping down to the 20's in a couple days for lows, so just as well I don't mess with them. Joe dug up the *new* bean patch. I asked for IT to give me back Daves GArden .com, so I will check it out tomorrow. I had a blue purp, a jaimie lynn cross, and a large blue with white center blooming this am in the basement, but couldn't take time to get pics, sorry. I have so many pots and tubs that are growing perennials - have no idea where I am going to grow my tomatoes, sunflowers and potatoes this year. *sigh* Here is the house yard the other day..it will be fun to take these shots once a month...the new bean patch is off the north side of the patio and out to the edge about a foot away from the drai tile, so am thinking of putting a rain barrels there instead of that huge planter full of canna's.
we have not grown green beans in two years now.

Very unusual leaf Helena. Temps below freezing here this weekend over nite and
just 40's during the day.
Going to hurt after all these nice warm temps. What a cruel trick by Mother Nature.
Lovely blooms Helena. My wisteria should be opening its buds in a couple of days.
I love your bottle brush too
Debra, you remember my Wisteria just bloomed the 1st time last yr after being in the ground about 10 yrs or more. smh So don't cut yours down yet.
Hope you find a good spot to plant your veges and hope they do well for you.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Beautiful pictures Helena, is that a yellow morning glory in the tree with the wisteria?

Gautier, MS

Thanks ladies. No Linda that is a white rose with the wisteria, camera lighting wasn't right.
Hope the weather warms up and you'll be able to grow all your veggies and plants Debra. You do have a green thumb.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Hi! Guess what! I am in!!!! Yay! I was going to ask the same: if that was a yellow morning glory in the wisteria.. :)

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Is everyone okay? I spent the day in the basement. It is cold cold cold and all the stuff blooming outside could care less, I guess, but I am sick of the wind and cold.
Here is the vine room in the corner where I hardly make it too LOL. It is on the other side of the main wall.
All the flower beds are still covered in leaves and dead sticks. *sigh* All this stuff is downstairs. and then there is the Nanking cherry bush in full bloom.

Beautiful photos Debra. What is the pretty red flower?

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

The red flower looks like a Hibiscus to me, just guessing.

Gautier, MS

I guess everyone is getting another cold blast. Raining and cold here today too.

Your gs looks like they are still doing good Debra. I think that a pretty red hibiscus too. Love your Cherry tree.
My mgs and plants are doing ok outside with protection next to the house. Most are purpureas and higes a few nils. By the end of the month I'll be moving the ones from gh out. Nicked and soaked another batch of mg seeds yesterday. Have not been able to count how many I have already. Still have too many to get into bigger pots!

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Thanks Linda, Yes, that is my poodle hibiscus from a friend, it is going gangbusters. I spent the entire day down there. It is so cold and windy here, I am feeling like I need to take a nap!
glad you got some more seeds started, Jackie. Helena, I am looking forward to more blooms from you!

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Debra, I feel sleep deprived all the time .
My winter mg's are pretty much goners. Hope I can make'time to start a few and
other seeds as well.
Helena, cold here with a cold rain that just stopped a couple of hours ago.
Now that it should be spring, winter has returned.
Glad you;re getting a lot done. Hoping I can just make time to at least go thru some of my sds looking for the oldest and my favorites.

When I click on choose pics, my computer wont go to my pic files,???

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Try doing a search for .jpg Jackie and then once you find your pics, drag them to your folder u want to use and name it mg pics or something.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Debra, that is a beautiful hibiscus.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Thanks Linda, I am about to trim her up when she is done blooming. We are getting another arctic blast down to 28 tonight, there goes all the buds on all the bushes- trees and shrubs. I had to wear my leather coat all day today and had my heater on my feet, too, at work. The window makes it COLD in there.
Still in a drought! These rooted cuttings got all potted up. I have a continuous supply of cups at work. :P This is a old metal rectangle basket that fits down into an old aquarium with a bubbler. it is now loaded with cestrum, firespike and snowqueen Hibiscus. I trimmed the pineapple sage back and hope some of those cuttings take. Out of the four sticto's only two made it. threw in some old 2016 mgs from the past for our mg thread, too.
