sending seed to mommyof4dolls

Kentwood, LA(Zone 8b)

Has anyone had any problem with the seed you may have sent to mommyof4dolls? When i contacted her she said she had not received them and wants to show my e-mail to customs. It was 25 seed pks. that I bought for her with the pictures and directions. Is there a reason why customs would reject or refuse to forward her the seed? This is a new one on me. They were half flowers and half vegetables. I sure don`t need any problems with customs.

I sent seeds to Canada about 1 1/2 months ago and they never made it.

Middlesbrough, United Kingdom

May be a problem with the anthrax outbreak?

I sent the round robin package to Canada on Nov. 7 and it arrived within a week I think, judging from the update page. I did put the package in a box though and tried to keep the seeds from rattling. And when I declared what I was sending I put garden seeds on it. The reason I put it in a box was that when the package arrived to me, there was some comments from postal workers on it's size, shape and sound! LOL I decided to try the box thing and it worked better.

I have wanted to send things to two people in Canada for several years, and my PO will not allow it to go through without a special form that has to come from Canada's minister of agriculture. It applies to any part of plants and includes seeds. Oddly enough, a woman in Canada declared she has never seen or heard of it, even after I told her of the book. She would have to send me the form, and she never did. I don't think she believed me, as she said she received plants and seeds from USA gardeners regularly with no porblem. This isn't a bogus thing, I have seen and copied the regulation from the book our post offices are supposed to follow. Not all follow it, but the SENDER can be fined up to $200 for not doing so. When I went to another post office, and then four more, in other towns, the story varied, but my packages invariably returned to me within two weeks. I started trying to send things about four years ago. So, for all you friends in Canada, I would have liked to share my garden, but long before 9/11 was blocked. I don't try anymore, because it wastes postage and frustrates me.

I have had no problem sending seeds to Canada. My Postoffice gives me a little declaration form to fill out. They tear off and stick a portion to the back of the envelope, and never a problem. Also, I've never had any trouble receiving seeds from Canada, and I've done many trades with them.

Maben, MS(Zone 7b)

I sent some seeds to canada and they were rec'd in a little over a wk. I mailed them 11/13 and rec'd seeds close to the same time.

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

I sent some seeds to Mummyof4dolls in Sept. I am in Canada.
When I hadn't heard anything after a few weeks I wrote to her and asked if she had received them. She wrote on Oct. 17th that they had just arrived..and said that the children would write me a letter of thank you. I haven't heard anything yet. So I assume that the mail inside Canada is slow too.

Kitchener, ON(Zone 5A)

I am in Canada and have received trades from both the east and west coasts of the United States as well as Brazil with no problems at all that I am aware of.... The Brazil envelope did take 3 weeks mind you

Kentwood, LA(Zone 8b)

I declared that it was of no value, and listed contents as seed.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

I did too. mine still never made it.

Georgetown, TX(Zone 8a)

Yep, I have tried all of those things mentioned. Either it never leaves Texas, or even Austin, or it comes right back.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Ooops, I've never been asked at my PO to make out any slips and have just mailed seeds as I would someone in the states. I recently sent the RR seed packet to trailingon in Canada and it made it to her but it did take longer than usual.I think with the Anthrax problems it will be taking a chance to send seeds out of the country now. Everyone is being very cautious.

Kentwood, LA(Zone 8b)

I don`t know what happens to the packages that are rejected but they should be returned to sender-

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

Now I have to add in here, I have sent seeds to trailingon several times, I've sent a RR through Canada, and have had several good trades. I think if a package has to be fat, like I sent my seed trades, maybe a small box is in order. I won't stop trading with Canadians, I love to trade with them, I think we just went through a bad time recently with any kind of small package.
Sorry if I seemed real negative, the flu has me down:)

Longview, TX

Ive never had a problem sending overseas yet. However it may be slow getting there. They have made me fill out a form too. It is a declaration form. However Ive had boxes coming back from recent shipments Ive made. If the package is over so much weight...I have to give it out in person...otherwise it comes back to me. This is frustrating too. I put the mail in the box. Saturday it made its way back. This had cuttings in it. I am very unhappy about it. The correct postage was on it.
